Chapter 38 My rabbit
“Or is it my blood Ezekiel was drinking?” she asked, her eyes widening at the thought.
“Hahaha!I guess you're Ezekiel's savior,” Ella mocked. On second thought, it made no sense that they would call Evan ‘savior’ over that.
She took another glance at the newspaper.Evan’s face wasn't even drawn properly; she looked more like a dog than a human.
“It makes no sense!” Evan blurted out as she stretched her neck to peep at what was written.
“This is so brutal! You look ugly. That person who drew this is no artist,” Ella breathed out, scrunching the paper into a ball and tossing it away from her sight.
Evan adjusted herself on the bench, straightening up, clearing her throat, and giving Ella a stern look.
“What is wrong with you now?”Ella asked.
“I want a favor from you, dear.” Evan's expression changed more quickly than Isabella had predicted into a glowing smile.
Ella rolled her eyes as she ran her hand roughly through her silver hair.
“What now?”
“I need to go to the Donovan's mansion,”she blurted.
“Huh!”Ella’s face flushed red. I knew it. This girl!! She is in love with that duke! Ella fumed within as she gritted her teeth.
“Why?” Her silver eyes dimmed a bit as she pouted in disappointment.
“Seriously?Aren't you the same person who said I should fix things out with Zeke?” As soon as the words left her lips, she slapped her palms over her mouth, eyes widened. She couldn't really fathom why she did that.
Ella’s lips pulled up into a mocking smile.
“And when did you start calling Duke Ezekiel‘Zeke’? I knew it. You're in…”
“Oh please, my queen, don't,” Evan interrupted.
“Evan..”
“Don't call me that. You and I know it's Anna now,” her voice was firm, making it clear.
She said that hoping for Ella's smile to vanish.Surprisingly, it widened.
“Stop trying to change the topic, dear,” she dragged out the word ‘dear,’ making Evan's belly turn.
Evan stood up intending to leave when an orange fell into the spot she was sitting.Isabella immediately grabbed it, yelling in victory like a little kid.
Evan was displeased and disappointed. And just like a little child, she snatched the orange from Ella's hand.
“This is supposed to be mine, not yours.” With that, she walked away, leaving Ella blinking twice before wrapping her head around what had truly happened.
…
It was now dark, and all the witches were inside their respective covens or houses. Evan and Ella were at the front entrance of the dark forest. It was the only passage in or out. They were both dressed in black cloaks hiding their entire bodies, including their faces.
“How long are we going to stay here?”Isabella asked, her face forming a deep frown. Meanwhile, Evan was fidgeting with her fingers due to nervousness.
Sensing what the girl was doing, Ella decided to ask.
“Why are you nervous?”Evan, who was staring into space, diverted her gaze to Ella.
“I am not,”her voice made it clear she was lying.
“Are you scared we'll get caught? And then you'll get killed?”
“I am not scared of that!”Over the past years, Evan had trained in the white witches' local combat, trying to unleash her hidden powers. However, none came. She was only capable of releasing icy sharp blades that were capable of killing black witches.
She was known as the ice girl, and many black witches mistook her for a white witch. The funniest part was she could chant witches' spells. Isabella was very pleased by that.
“I am going to get my rabbit,”Evan suddenly declared.
“Whaa?”Ella was speechless.
“Your Majesty.”Rose appeared, giving a slight bow.
“We'll be leaving for quite a while.Make sure to guard this entrance and tighten security,” Evan instructed. And before Rose could reply, Evan and Ella vanished into thin air.
They both appeared in front of the Donovan's mansion. Evan had begged Ella, her throat very dry, before finally convincing the Witch Queen to come along with her.
“I don't know the duke,”Ella said as her eyes landed on the gate. Written on top were the words: ‘DONOVAN’S MANSION’.
“Shhhhh! You know vampires have very sensitive hearing.”
Holding hands, they both disappeared, appearing in Evan's old room. The room was still the same as Evan had left it. Nothing at all was touched. Evan was mystified.
“Wow,nothing here was touched.”
“Of course not! Now get me out of here!!!” A strange voice rang out in the room, making Ella light two balls of fire in her hands. “What was that?” she asked, her brows knitting together.
“You can hear him?”asked Evan. Seeing Ella nod, her mouth fell open. She walked further, bending down to pick up the bunny rabbit.
“How dare you leave me here for thousands of years?Ahhhhhh!” the rabbit screamed, making Evan flick its bunny forehead. Its nonexistent heart twisted in pain.
“A-a toy rabbit can talk?” Ella's eyes widened as her jaw fell.
“Yes.He is my son.”
“When did that happen?Aren't you the kid that just came into the mansion? Just because you're now grown and all pretty doesn't…”
Isabella snatched the bunny from Evan's hand.“He talks a lot.” With that, she placed her hand on Evan's shoulders as they all disappeared into thin air.
One might think they would go back to the dark forest, but Ella had other plans. They all appeared in front of a church. The bunny could see people bustling around the area.
“Finally?!!!! I get to see people again!” the bunny exclaimed.
“Kid,shut up!” Ella bellowed.
“What?Do you know who I am? I am b…”
“You're a yellow rabbit.Yes, I know,” Ella interrupted.
“Guys, keep it down! And what are we doing here?” asked Evan. They were both hiding behind a carriage.
“Aren't you bored?Let's both stay in the church.”
“What?”
