Chapter 54 HONED WEAPON

Chapter 54 HONED WEAPON

Lara looked uneasy. “You make it sound… too easy.”
Sonia smiled faintly. “It’s never easy, Lara. But if I survive this, I take everything with me. They’ll learn that the ghost they thought they could expose is untouchable. They thought they could write my death into history. Now they’ll witness my revenge.”
From his rented apartment across from Veritas building, Greg exhaled slowly.
From above, he watched the city and its chaos. Richard’s exposure while staying hidden in the shadows, Helena’s lawsuit—it was a storm, and Sonia was at the eye.
“She’s walking into fire,” he muttered to himself. “And she’s ready to burn them all, even if she gets caught in the flame.
He wanted to intervene, but also—he had to let her fight her own war, or she would hate him. Because this time, the stakes are more than survival. This time, it’s about dominance, it's about an innocent family murdered in cold blood, it's revenge."
The screens in his hands lit up: media coverage, investor panic, social speculation, and Helena’s lawsuit filings. The war had officially escalated into the public and legal arena, and the chessboard had just doubled in complexity.
Sonia Verma—or Sonia Iris—was no longer hiding. And now, the world knew she existed, fully armed with ten years of preparation, intellect, and unyielding vengeance.
Helena Mendez had just lit the first fuse of a legal war that would threaten everything Sonia had rebuilt…
He would be here to ensure; she doesn't get hurt at her own game. This was a promise. He will be her safety net.
He already started by releasing the videos, the pictures of Sonia after the accident, he had kept them, and now they came in quite handy. He wanted to garner public sympathy for her, to ease the storm, and it worked beautifully. The amnesia claim was far-fetched, but quite convincing. No one gets to hurt Sonia, he thought, not on my watch.
The air was thick with tension, but Sonia breathed it in like fuel. Helena Mendez had officially filed her lawsuit: fraud, faking death, blackmail, old arrests—everything she could throw at Sonia was now public. But Sonia smiled, fingers brushing over the polished surface of her desk. They think this is their move. They don’t know it’s mine.
Lara leaned over the desk, tablet in hand. “Sonia… the filings are messy, but they’re a goldmine. Helena tried to hide a few things in plain sight—sloppy. Very sloppy.”
Sonia’s eyes glimmered with a cold light. “Every lie, every misstep they’ve ever made… we expose it. We flip this lawsuit into a weapon. Publicity, legal leverage, and data exposure all at once. They won’t even know what hit them.”
Marcus nodded from across the room. “We’ve already mapped out the shell companies, hidden assets, offshore accounts. Each one will collapse under scrutiny. Once the probes start, Mendez Group won’t know which direction to defend first.”
Lara’s lips twitched in a half-smile. “And the media? Investors?”
“They’ll be watching every step. Exactly the point. We needed public interest, and now we have it,” Sonia’s fingers hovered over her keyboard. Time to turn pain into power, betrayal into dominance.
“Marcus, it was Greg, right?” Sonia asked as she gazed out the window lost in thought, already knowing the answer.
“He was the one who released those pictures, and videos, he is still watching. That big liar, I thought he left for good this time…” Sonia said quietly almost to herself. Smiling in quiet relief, she could not really imagine her life without Greg in it.
Greg watched the city from above, the screens in front of him alive with news of Helena’s lawsuit. Panic and speculation ran rampant online. Investors were jittery; social media was aflame with accusations and curiosity.
“She’s turning their attack into her war,” Greg muttered. “Every move she makes, they’re trapped, and she’s guiding them straight into the spotlight, and they are heading right into it,” brilliantly done, Greg praised as he allowed himself a small smile in the darkness of the room, aware of a very pressing fact, that every tick tock, that the clock made was precious time running that he could not afford to lose.
He checked in with Lara and Marcus, who were coordinating legal actions and PR simultaneously.
“She’s aggressive… ruthless. But she’s calculated. She’s ready for everything Helena throws at her.” Lara reassured Greg, aware of Greg’s steadfast, and steady love for Sonia, and Sonia’s inability to reciprocate. Sometimes, just sometimes, she wishes she could have Greg’s attention and care to herself, since Sonia was not romantically interested in him. Greg was truly amazing and any woman, will be lucky to have him, but she always reminded herself not to desire what she cannot have so as not to develop hatred, or envy towards Sonia, that would be messy...
Greg exhaled. “And I have to make sure nothing physically threatens her while she dismantles them. From here on, it’s not just a battlefield, I will make sure it is a playing field for her.”
Sonia tapped a few keys, and Veritas’ internal analytics displayed a map of the Mendez financial empire. Shell companies, hidden accounts, fraudulent transfers—they were all there, like veins of weakness pulsing under the surface.
“Every company that touches Mendez finances is traced,” Sonia said. “Marcus, I want them dismantled quietly at first—small leaks to test reactions. Lara, open legal probes in parallel—civil and criminal exposure. Make sure the press gets selective hints without giving away our strategy, you don’t have to worry too much, they are like dogs to a bone at the very smell of news.”
Lara nodded, eyes sharp. “Already done. Our first probe hits in two hours. The public narrative will start shifting immediately.”
Jeffrey, Sonia’s right-hand man, added, “We’ve also compiled evidence of regulatory violations, nepotism, tax evasion, and manipulation, and insider trading. The moment we release this, Mendez Group’s credibility collapses further.”
Sonia’s lips curled into a cold smile. “Good. Let the empire tremble under the weight of its own corruption. We just need to lend a helping hand, here and there, and the public, the media will do all the digging. And as for Helena…” Her eyes flicked to his picture pinned on her board. “Let her watch while we pull it apart. Every power play, every secret exposed. Let her feel the chaos she helped create.”
By late afternoon, Veritas released a statement:
“Sonia Verma, CEO of Veritas Analytics, acknowledges Helena Mendez’s legal claims. However, the filings contain material inaccuracies and omit critical information about the Mendez Group’s financial practices. Veritas will fully cooperate with legal authorities to ensure transparency and accountability. Public interest and corporate integrity demand nothing less.”
News outlets ran headlines: “Sonia Verma Turns Lawsuit Against Her into Financial Exposure of Mendez Group”, “Veritas CEO Exposes Mendez Corruption Amid Legal Battle”. Social media exploded with debate, speculation, and shock.
Ricky stared at his screen, tension coiling in his chest. Every move Sonia made was surgical, deliberate, and public. Investors were calling; board members were panicking. He was beginning to feel hopeless.
