The most beautiful girl beauty pageant had been ongoing for over three months now. And from all over the world and from all walks of life, pretty ladies emerged to represent their countries in order to hit the jackpot and establish their countries in the hall of fame.
Before the commencement of the beauty pageant, Zion had served me a memo from the organizers, giving me the opportunity to be the sole sponsor of the event. I was very much elated to sponsor such event.
And on behalf of the Saint Don Group and my wife, I wrote them a cheque for fifty million dollars. Not only did this make my name to be in the news, but also it was one way I could give back to the society and support talent.
This very maiden edition gathered from all over the world pretty ladies who wished to emerge as winners. But in the long run only one of them would go home with grand prize.
The grand finale was slated to hold in New York. It would be recalled that this would be the fifth edition which had mouthwatering prizes and recognition for the model that would emerge as winner.
As expected, the D-day drew nigh and gathered a huge crowd at the national stadium for the grand finale. Thus far three dashing, curvaceous pretty ladies from America, India and Philippine had succeeded to the finale and the judges were all ready to choose the best among them as the winner of the fifth maiden edition.
According to the judges, the winner would be determined by intelligence and not just only by beauty. And to that effect, a written text was set for the three contestations.
The text was meant to last for thirty minutes; accuracy, speed and perfection were among the qualities the judges looked out for.
With bated breath , the ocean of crowd waited for the presenter to get the final result from the judges after the models had finished the written text.
“Ladies and gentle men, the final result is here,” the presenter, a charismatic, tall long-haired young chap from New York announced into the microphone.
The crowd booed and murmured indistinctly. They couldn’t wait to celebrate the winner of this maiden edition of the beauty pageant.
“Thank you! Thank you!” the presenter sounded cheerfully, “I would take that as compliment. But permit me to introduce the contestants one more time. Make welcome Miss America,” he gestured at the light-skinned, hour-glass lady who cat-walked to the stage, “Miss Philippine and Miss India!”
The pretty ladies cat-walked to the stage, smiling from cheek to cheek, their hands on their waist as they posed elegantly, and nervously winked at the ocean of crowd, that kept booing and celebrating them.
“In my hands is the result for the winner of the fifth edition of the most beautiful girl beauty pageant. The winner will walk home with a cash prize of one million dollars, a brand new SUV, a home in the Beverley hills and ambassadorial deals with five prestigious companies worth two million dollars each.”
The moment everyone had been waiting for had come and the crowd had their hands on their chests as they waited for the presenter to pronounce the winner. From all over the world, all eyes were on the TV, radio , online and on their phones , waiting for the final verdict…
“Ladies and gentle men,” the presenter echoed into the microphone, “The winner of the fifth maiden edition of the most beautiful girl beauty pageant is…”
Everyone paused their breath, gaze shot through, eyes staring stilly, mouth gaping hugely as they listened.
“Miss…Philippine!” the presenter pronounced at once and the crowd broke into prompt excitement and jubilation.
Miss Philippine stood star-struck, her hand gagging her mouth and her countenance falling under shock. She embraced her fellow contestants, who cat-walked out of the stage for her to be celebrated.
“Miss Philippine,” the presenter said to her, “Can we have a final word from you and a wish which must be fulfilled by the authorities of this pageantry.”
The dashing lady smiling contagiously, congratulated herself and appreciated her family, fans, supporters and organization of the event.
She sucked a deep breath once it was time to make a wish, which the crowd waited for earnestly.
“Wish! Wish! Wish!” the crowd chanted when she hesitated to say something.
Miss Philippine breathed uneasily, snorted, still all smiles before she peered her mouth at the microphone and said, “My wish which had lingered for over two years now is to have a dinner with my crush, Mike Don, the world richest man. I dote on him so much and I don’t mind becoming his wife…”
The crowd booed, chanted, murmured and broke down in unending noise.
Miss Philippine blushed, gagged her mouth shyly and cheered herself by joining the crowd to clap. Even when she retired to her exclusive seat, she couldn’t stop blushing and staring at my photo which was hung on the billboard as a sole sponsor of the event
Meanwhile some one was seen, jostling through the crowd, pushing through and leaving the arena. It was a female figure; it was none other than Melissa, my ex wife. She had been in the crowd all the while and she wished Miss Philippine had not mentioned my name. Heavy pang of guilt and ridicule always crushed her whenever she heard my name from pretty ladies and most often she wished we were still together in marriage; she just regretted it all now.
If only I could give her second chance, she would love me with all her heart whether I was poor or not.
Regrettably, there was no room for second chance in my life.
Once she got outside, she tucked to a corner and wept from the bottom of her heart, “Oh I can’t stand this anymore. Would anyone believe that Mike Don was my ex husband? Oh I regret divorcing you, Mike. The most beautiful girl dotes on him now because he is the world richest man. All the girls want to court him now…” she sniffed, “I can’t stand this anymore. I am going…” she wailed as she walked away.
Something was about to happen…
