Chapter 51: All Universities Want to Recruit Olivia
Washington Institute of Technology.
In the Principal's office.
Principal Roberts had just learned that Olivia had been accepted by Washington University, and he also knew just how impressive her admission scores were.
At this moment, he was filled with regret!
"Why didn't I reach out to this kid back then? Why did I have to listen to that useless dean and let our university miss out on such a promising student!"
Principal Roberts slumped in his office chair, sighing heavily, his eyes vacant, as if he had lost all hope.
After sighing for a while, hope suddenly rekindled in Principal Roberts' eyes. He immediately sat up straight and grabbed his phone to contact Olivia.
"As long as she hasn't officially enrolled at Washington University yet, I still have a chance! I don't believe that with Washington Institute of Technology's reputation and benefits, we can't win over one student!"
But when he made several calls, they all showed the line was busy.
When Principal Roberts tried calling one last time, Olivia's phone was completely turned off.
There was no helping it - too many people were trying to call Olivia at that moment!
In the President's office at Washington University, President Turner saw that his school had finally recruited Olivia, and a satisfied smile appeared on his face.
"A talent like Olivia will definitely bring a unique and fresh experience to Washington University. I'm actually looking forward to her enrollment, hahaha."
Just then, there was a knock on President Turner's office door.
"Come in!"
The pride on President Turner's face was practically overflowing. He was just thinking about sharing with someone how amazing the student he'd recruited for the school was, and here came someone at just the right time.
But President Turner soon couldn't smile anymore, because the people who entered were all deans of various colleges at Washington University or rehired professors, each one famous in their field. Yet at this moment, they all wanted Olivia to transfer to their own departments.
"Didn't Olivia choose Computer Science? She shouldn't study Computer Science - she should come to our Artificial Intelligence program! Did she pick the wrong major?"
"What Artificial Intelligence! She has a natural gift for medicine! I've never seen anyone with Olivia's kind of talent. If she doesn't study medicine, it would be a huge loss for the entire medical field!"
"Everyone move aside! What Olivia should really study is art. The artistic cells in her body are practically bursting through the screen!"
"Nonsense! Her math competition score was perfect! President, you know what that means. Our Mathematics department has claimed Olivia! I'm telling you!"
President Turner had originally wanted to share with people how he'd recruited a once-in-a-century genius for the school, but faced with such a heavyweight battle over this student, even though he was experienced and usually composed, the smile on his face was becoming hard to maintain.
"Everyone quiet down, please calm down!"
President Turner had always thought his office was quite spacious - normally when a few teachers or deans came to talk, there was more than enough room.
But when it came to the question of what major Olivia should choose, he realized just how small his office really was.
Because his entire office was packed with big shots from various departments!
For a moment, President Turner felt like he could barely breathe.
Faced with such a rare talent, how could the big shots from various departments stay calm?
President Turner called for calm several times before barely managing to control the situation.
Even so, President Turner still wasn't at ease and had everyone come in one by one to explain their reasons for wanting Olivia to transfer majors.
Then he spent the entire day being shocked again and again.
By the end, President Turner was numb from all the shocking revelations.
He was even thinking:
Since this Olivia is so talented, maybe we could let her study all the majors? We could make this special exception, right?
But soon, President Turner's rationality took over again, and he decided to respect Olivia's choice.
After he called Olivia, she wasn't excited or surprised by the attention from so many department leaders. Instead, she said calmly:
"I'm studying Computer Science. I'm not transferring majors."
"Good, good, good. Washington University will always respect your choice."
President Turner directly relayed Olivia's response to the big shots from various departments, which drew a chorus of sighs.
Seeing that some people still weren't giving up, he put on a stern face:
"I know what you're all thinking, but some things can't be forced. Going too far is as bad as not going far enough - it would be terrible if we drove Olivia away."
Then President Turner's expression softened, and he even smiled:
"How about this - in the future, let's have more academic exchanges between departments. As long as Olivia is a student at Washington University, are we really worried about not having opportunities to interact?"
When everyone heard this, they realized it made sense, and finally accepted the fact that Olivia wouldn't be transferring majors.
On the other side, after Olivia hung up the phone, Tom, who had heard the entire conversation, had his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.
Tom felt that his understanding of Olivia was still insufficient. He even felt that simply calling her a genius wasn't enough to describe Olivia's abilities.
But Olivia remained very calm. Right after hanging up the phone, she methodically began preparing for the orphanage's future arrangements.
Although the children at the orphanage had only spent three years with Olivia, perhaps because they shared similar hardships, most of the children were friendly toward her.
So Olivia didn't want the orphanage children to suffer any harm after she left.
For this reason, she specifically paid to hire several professional bodyguards for the orphanage, all with skills that had passed Olivia's initial approval.
Then she specifically sought out Principal George from Alice Academy and Mayor Scott of City A, explaining the orphanage situation to each of them separately.
She asked these two powerful figures to look after the children in terms of both education and daily life.
Both naturally agreed readily.
Upon hearing that Olivia had successfully been accepted to Washington University, both Mayor Scott and George were very excited.
Mayor Scott smiled and extended an invitation:
"After you go to Washington, we'll have even fewer chances to meet. You have to give me face and come to this farewell dinner no matter what."
George also warmly invited her, unable to hide the happiness in his words:
"Olivia, well done! You've really brought honor to Alice Academy! In a couple of days I'll organize a gathering - you must come. Not only to celebrate your acceptance to Washington University, but also to thank you, my benefactor who helped me get promoted, hahaha."
To this, Olivia responded:
"Thanks for the invite, but I'm not going."
