Chapter 27 Freezing To Death
Up until this moment, Isabel had only entertained suspicions of Mason's potential affair. But with Mason's admission of infidelity and his declaration of love for Addison, Isabel felt as though her soul had been wrenched from her body. Tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably, betraying the depth of her anguish.
As Isabel's tears fell, Mason couldn't help but chuckle sarcastically, relishing in the pain he had inflicted upon her. Her hurt was evident, and he found a sick satisfaction in witnessing it.
"Aw, does it hurt to hear that I'm cheating on you and that I love Addison?" Mason's mocking tone cut through the air, his words intended to wound Isabel further.
Isabel bit her lip in a futile attempt to rein in her emotions, but the image of her husband with another woman tore at her already fragile heart. She wanted to scream at Mason, to make him understand the agony of his betrayal, but she felt powerless to do so, convinced she had no right to voice her pain as his wife.
However, a surge of anger mixed with sadness coursed through Isabel, causing her to tremble. Her mind urged her to remain silent, reminding her of her perceived inadequacies, but her heart refused to accept Mason's betrayal. Finally, she found her voice, unable to contain her fury any longer.
"You're a coward, Mason. You married me only to shatter my life, and now you're cheating on me. I could have never imagined that you would despise me for my flaws. You're nothing but a coward to betray someone as vulnerable as me," Isabel spat, her words laced with righteous indignation.
Mason was taken aback by the sudden shift in Isabel's demeanor, finding a slight amusement in her newfound assertiveness.
"Wow, tough talk," he remarked before roughly squeezing her cheeks with one hand, causing Isabel to wince in pain.
"Say another word, and I'll make sure your tongue won't be where it belongs," Mason threatened, his tone laced with menace. But Isabel, fueled by a defiance she hadn't known before, remained unafraid, the pain overshadowed by her resolve.
In a swift motion, Isabel pushed Mason away with all her might, catching him off guard. Before he could react, she began to speak, her voice steady despite the turmoil within her.
"I want Mom and Dad to know what their son is up to. Maybe they'll be thrilled to hear about your affair," she declared, her words dripping with a mixture of defiance and desperation.
But Mason wasn't one to be challenged without retaliation. He tightened his grip on her arm, inflicting more pain as he spoke.
"You've picked the wrong person to mess with," he warned, his grip unyielding as Isabel struggled to break free. With a forceful tug, he dragged her towards the balcony, his intentions chillingly clear.
"I wish I could end you right now, but I'll settle for hoping you meet your end tonight," he spat before slamming the balcony door shut, leaving Isabel trapped outside in the biting cold.
Stunned by the sudden turn of events, Isabel stood frozen, her breath visible in the frigid air. It wasn't until she realized she was locked out without warm clothing that panic began to set in. She pounded on the door, her cries drowned out by Mason's indifference as he drowned himself in music, leaving Isabel isolated and alone in her distress.
With despair weighing heavily upon her, Isabel collapsed onto the cold balcony floor, her heart shattered into a million pieces. Tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably, her sobs echoing in the chilling night air. Each moment that passed only intensified the biting cold, causing Isabel to tremble violently.
As time dragged on, the frigid temperature became increasingly unbearable, gnawing at Isabel's resolve. She pounded on the door once more in a desperate attempt to escape her icy prison, but it remained steadfastly shut, indifferent to her cries for help.
Isabel retreated to a corner of the balcony, wrapping her arms tightly around herself in a feeble attempt to ward off the cold. But the thin fabric of her clothes offered little protection against the merciless chill, leaving her feeling utterly defenseless.
With every passing second, Isabel's strength waned, her limbs growing heavy as if weighed down by the freezing air. She could feel the cold seeping into her bones, a numbing sensation spreading throughout her body.
At a certain point, Isabel feared that her very blood might freeze within her veins, but she was powerless to prevent it. With each labored breath, she grew weaker, until finally, the darkness of unconsciousness enveloped her, offering a brief respite from the relentless cold.

In the hazy light of the morning, Mason stirred from his sleep, his mind still clouded with drowsiness as he prepared for his morning workout. Lost in his routine, he absentmindedly reached for his coffee, only to find it absent from its usual spot—Isabel's recent habit of bringing it to him.
"Damn it!" Mason cursed aloud as the realization of his actions from the night before flooded back to him in a rush. Horror washed over him as he remembered locking Isabel outside on the balcony.
With a sense of urgency, he rushed to the balcony, throwing open the door to the biting cold. His gaze immediately fell upon Isabel's still form, huddled in a corner. Panic gripped him as he approached her, his heart racing.
Gently, he touched her cheek, recoiling at the icy chill that greeted him. Desperation welled up within him as he attempted to rouse her, only to be met with silence.
Fear clenched at his chest as he scooped her frail body into his arms, carrying her inside with trembling hands. Setting her down on the bed, he felt a surge of helplessness wash over him, unsure of what to do next.
Driven by instinct, he cranked up the heater in the room to its highest setting and draped a thick blanket over her, hoping to fend off the cold that had seeped into her bones. As he watched over her motionless form, a deep sense of remorse gnawed at him, realizing the gravity of his actions and the consequences they had wrought.
Mason's mind raced with conflicting emotions as he watched over Isabel, silently praying for her well-being, albeit more out of self-interest than genuine concern. Despite his repeated attempts to rouse her, she remained unresponsive, her stillness a stark reminder of his grave mistake.
Yet, as the room heated up, thawing the icy grip of the night, Isabel stirred, finding a flicker of strength within her. Mason's relief was palpable as he witnessed her gradual awakening, a glimmer of hope amidst his turmoil.
However, his relief was short-lived, quickly overshadowed by a wave of guilt and embarrassment. He felt a compelling urge to apologize to Isabel, recognizing the need to mend the rift between them before she could expose his actions to his parents. Yet, before he could act on this impulse, his pride and anger reasserted themselves, reminding him of his belief that Isabel was the architect of his misfortune.
With a bitter resolve, Mason hardened his heart, abandoning his fleeting moment of vulnerability. As Isabel struggled to open her eyes, weakened by her ordeal, Mason loomed over her with an air of superiority, his words dripping with disdain.
"Are you just going to lie there, or do you have the decency to thank me for saving your sorry life?" Mason's tone was laced with arrogance, as if he had performed a noble deed by sparing her from the brink of death, conveniently forgetting his own role in her suffering.
