Chapter 87 Irresistible
Alison listened to him, her face a mix of mockery and disdain. She couldn't help but frown. "I'm telling you, don't fall for me. Or I'll make you suffer like Emily did," she said, trying to provoke him.
But she forgot how sensitive Jack was to the name "Emily." As soon as he heard it, his face changed instantly. He grabbed her by the collar, tightening it around her neck. "If you dare become like her, I'll make your life a living hell."
"Ugh... ugh..." Alison struggled to speak, even coughing became difficult. She could barely breathe.
Her clear eyes stared at him quietly, thinking this must be the real him. At the same time, her curiosity about Emily grew stronger.
"Ugh... ugh..." She coughed a few more times, her face turning pale, but she didn't stop him. She just let him choke her.
After a while, her coughing finally snapped him out of it. He loosened his grip and asked in a deep voice, "Why didn't you fight back?"
Alison took deep breaths, feeling like she had just walked through hell. She really thought she was going to die.
Once her breathing steadied, a blush remained on her small face. "Because I'm not her, so I won't suffer at your hands."
She wouldn't do anything to betray him. She hadn't before, she wouldn't now, and she wouldn't in the future.
"Sorry." Jack sat on the edge of the bed, leaning back against the headboard. "You really look like her, so..." He lost control again.
"Do I look exactly like Emily?" Alison's curiosity was piqued. She had always wanted to know everything about Emily, but in the apartment, she had to pretend to be Emily and couldn't ask anything. Now she had the chance, and she didn't want to miss it.
"Yeah, except for the hair, you two look exactly the same," Jack replied.
"Do our noses, eyes, eyebrows, and mouths look the same?" Alison tilted her head, watching Jack's reaction. She was desperate to know the answer.
"Yeah, all the same. Sometimes, I even think you are her," Jack said.
"No, I've been called Alison since I was a kid. I have an ID to prove it." She started to get up to fetch her passport and ID.
Just as she was about to get up, Jack grabbed her arm. "Don't move. Just sit with me for a while."
"Fine, but you have to tell me Emily's story. You always treat me like her, and it's not fair," Alison bargained.
Jack leaned back on the bed, close to her but not looking at her. "Go ahead, ask what you want to know."
"Did you ever like her?" Alison seized the moment to ask.
"Maybe I did before, but not anymore," Jack answered.
"Do you hate her now?" Alison pressed on.
Jack turned to look at her. "You already know?"
Alison shook her head. "I was just guessing. We look so much alike, I really want to meet her."
"She's gone. I don't know where she went," Jack's voice was soft, as if he was reminiscing.
"You looked for her?" Alison asked, surprised.
"Yeah, no one was at the places she used to live," Jack said.
So he had looked for Emily. "Jack, I think you still like her," Alison said.
"No, she owes me an explanation. I just want to know why, that's why I want to find her," Jack denied.
"Maybe she had no choice but to hurt you?"
"If you love someone deeply, would you hurt them?" Jack asked.
Alison shook her head. "No."
"But she hurt me again and again," Jack said. Since Emily, he had learned not to love, unable to love any woman. But the girl beside him, who looked so much like Emily, unknowingly stirred his heart. He didn't know what this feeling was, but he liked the quiet and peaceful time with Alison.
"It's all in the past. Aren't you doing well now?" Alison tried to comfort him.
"No, the person who hurt me is still out there. Until I find them, I'll never sleep soundly," Jack said.
So, he was like her, determined to find the culprit.
Was his return to YD to find that person? Thinking about her experiences in Paris, she felt that person had been tracking her and Jack. The nude photos that had been taken secretly hadn't been leaked, which puzzled her. She didn't believe that person would keep their word, and her only contact with that person was through an email.
It seemed she had to stay in YD, stay close to Aidan, and slowly find that person to give both herself and Jack an explanation.
"Jack, is there anything I can do to help?" she asked.
He smiled, showing his handsome teeth. "No, just be my friend and listen to my complaints occasionally." He had been holding it in for so long, his thoughts known only to himself, day after day, feeling very frustrated.
"If you ever see Emily again, you have to tell me. I really want to compare and see how much we look alike," she said.
"That's impossible. How could she dare show up in front of me again? I'm afraid I'd tear her apart. If I really saw her, I might actually do it," his gaze was empty, focused on a point in the room but not fixed.
That was the wound of his life, because of that heartless betrayal.
Alison listened quietly, wanting to learn more from his words. The more she knew, the less she could hate him.
He continued to stare ahead, whispering, "If you had the same hairstyle and clothes, stood in front of me without speaking, I might not be able to tell you apart."
"Haha, if that moment ever comes, I won't say a word and let you guess," she laughed. Being able to talk about Emily so lightly was already progress between them.
"But even if you both stayed silent, I could still tell you apart," he said confidently.
"How could you tell?" she asked curiously, feeling a bit anxious, afraid he might discover the truth.
"She has a scar on her chest. You don't, right?" His eyes suddenly boldly looked at her chest through her pajamas, making her heart race and panic.
At that moment, if he had just pulled slightly, the scar would be exposed, and everything would be revealed.
But he didn't do that. After a quick glance, his gaze became empty again, staring ahead. "Back then, no one believed me, except my second brother. He even knelt before the chairman to plead for me..."
