Can't Wait Any Longer

Can't Wait Any Longer
"You're bleeding, Ms. Fairchild,” the police officer urged.

Alison didn't respond; her eyes were filled with anticipation.

Amidst the hail of gunfire, she finally heard a low shout.
"Over here."

"Jack?" she whispered.

"Is that Mr. Winston?" the nearby officer called out to the man.

"Yes! Quick, someone help! Get him down!"

Several medics rushed to the barbed wire fence and lifted him onto a stretcher.

She staggered along with the crowd, barely catching her breath, before her eyes darted toward the stretcher.

The man on it was covered in blood, and he looked horrifying.

Alison’s body swayed, and she finally fainted.

When she awoke, it was noon the next day.

Slowly opening her eyes, she was stunned to see someone standing before her.

"Jack..." Ignoring the bandages on her arm, she frantically grabbed the man's sleeve. "Jack, are you okay? You're safe, right?"

But just as tears blurred her vision, a clear male voice spoke. "I'm Aidan."

Panic seized her. She rubbed her eyes frantically until her vision cleared.

"Where's Jack? Take me to him now!" she demanded, her heart racing.

His Adam's apple shifted slightly before he replied gently, "He's fine. He sent me to look after you.”

“Really?” She gripped his shoulders tightly and shook him. The wound on her arm began bleeding again.

"Yes. Jack's alive. Don't worry. Quick, don't move. Put your hand down." He soothed her, helping her lie down steadily.

"You wouldn't lie to me, would you, Aidan?" she asked, her eyes brimming with hope.

"No, I wouldn't lie to you, Alison. Please trust me." He gave her hand a light pat.

"Is Jack in this hospital?" she asked, her voice brimming with hope.

“No, he was taken to the military hospital,” he answered without hesitation.

"Don't lie to me."

"I'm not lying, I swear. Rest for a bit. I'll go get someone to bring you something to eat."

"Go get the doctor and nurse first, Aidan." She recalled the poison in her last medication that had forced her to terminate the pregnancy.

"All right." hE turned and left the room.

Shortly after, the doctor and nurse entered together.

"Doctor, is something wrong with my body? Am I pregnant?" she asked urgently.

"Yes, Ms. Fairchild. Did you sense it yourself?" the doctor replied with a smile.

A smile instantly lit up her face. She gently stroked her lower abdomen and asked, concerned, "Is my baby okay?"

"They're fine. Rest assured, the baby is healthy. This little one is truly brave for enduring such an ordeal. He'll surely be a little hero someday,” the doctor said cheerfully.

“When can I be discharged?”

"Well..." The doctor paused briefly. "You've only been in the hospital for one day, and you just regained consciousness. The stitches from the gunshot wound on your arm haven't been removed yet.”

“Stitches? Don't they use absorbable sutures these days?" She was puzzled.

“Unfortunately, our hospital ran out of absorbable sutures yesterday, so we had to use traditional sutures for your wound,” the doctor hastened to explain.

Though doubt lingered in her mind, she didn't show it. Calmly, she looked at the doctor and said, "Please be very careful with my medication. Make absolutely sure not to use anything that could affect the baby."

"Yes, we've already taken that into consideration when prescribing your medication. Please rest assured,” the doctor replied.

Thinking of Jack's mangled state, her heart was in turmoil.

Was he seriously injured? Is his life in danger?
Have the estate been reduced to ruins?
Have Pierre and Matthew been captured?
