Chapter 6
Alpha Kate’s POV:
Erick and Raven leave me to talk with the vampire. Erick is not happy, and neither is Raven. I know they are both concerned. Now I have two men watching me constantly, making sure I do not do anything stupid or reckless. I plan to keep both of them busy, keeping me out of trouble. At least, until I figure out what is going on with this vampire, I will not be backing down from this.
The vampire stands at the back of the cell. He is watching me closely. "We only have five minutes. Who are you, and what do you want?" I ask him. I watch him, and he is watching me. His eyes move with his body.
He rushes to the cell door hissing at me. He looks and sounds so much like Macon. "I am death, and I have come for revenge. You know what revenge feels like, don’t you Kate," he hisses at me.
"Why do you want revenge? What did my pack do to you? I do not even know who you are. Who are you?" I ask him. Macon was full of anger, and so is this vampire, but there is no way he could belong to Macon. It is impossible. Well, in my life, nothing is impossible. He could be anyone.
He twists around oddly. I do not know if he is trying to intimidate me or scare me, but it is not working. I have seen far more scary creatures than him in my life. My father was more terrifying than this, and my mother too. He hisses louder at me when he sees I am not afraid of him.
"I want revenge for what they have done to my family," he hisses. He moves his head and then opens his mouth to show me his fangs. He continues to hiss at me like something out of a cheap horror film. I flash my fangs at him. His eyes get big, and he backs up for a moment.
"Those do not scare me. Remember, I am a hybrid, Mr. Death. So cut the bullshit and tell me why you killed Liam and why you are here. We only have a few minutes before Alpha Erick and Raven come back. I need to know what you want besides revenge. Tell me what is going on with you, so I can either help you or kill you," I snap at him.
The vampire's eyes widen, and he straightens his body. He puts his hands on the bars between him and me. He smiles at me and chuckles, and then his facial expressions turn more serious.
"I did not kill Liam; He was helping me. He told me he understood me and wanted to help me. He said you would help me, please help me," he says plainly. No hissing or strange body movements; he is talking to me like a normal person. It was all an act to intimidate me.
"So, you can speak like a normal person. What is your name?" I ask him sternly. His face goes blank. He thinks for a moment. For a second, I do not believe he is going to answer me, but then a light switch seems to go off behind his eyes.
"Jason, my name is Jason," he speaks softly. His eyes remind me of Macon. He looks just like him. His voice, his smile, his laugh, it is all Macon. But there is no way he can be related to Macon or me.
"Do you belong to my brother? Are you his son or something?" I ask him. He looks at me funny and squints his eyes at me. My question shocked him or maybe puzzled him in some way.
"No, I do not know your brother, but I know you and your mother," he answers me. I am not sure if I believe him. He is too much like my brother. There has to be a connection between him and my brother.
"Jason, how do you know my mother and me?" I ask him. Jason shakes his head. I think he expected me to know who he is and how we are connected.
"Kate, I came here looking for you. I did not kill Liam. He promised me a meeting with you. When I arrived, he was gone. I want revenge for what they did to my family, and I want your help. You are the Imperial wolf, the one that is so special. You can help me. You can help me get revenge for my family," Jason says.
"Jason, who did what to your family, and why do you think I can help you with revenge? You are not giving me any straight answers. Can you tell me who hurt your family?" I ask him.
"The wolves that killed my family, and I know you can help. I know about your powers, and I know about the wolf. The wolf is still with you. You still see her. I know I can see her all around you," he says softly.
"Wait, what? My wolves—Imperials—killed your family? What do you mean the white wolf is still with me?" I ask him. I move closer to the bar. This confuses me, and he cannot be talking about my wolves.
"No, Kate, not the Imperials. I need your help. Would you please say you will help me? They all must pay for what they did. If you help me, I will show you the white wolf and help you get rid of her for good," Jason says. His eyes are sincere. He needs help. I do not think he wants to kill anyone. I know he wants revenge, but not death. What does he want me to do?
The door opens. Erick and Raven rush to my side. Jason hisses at both of them. "I think this has gone on long enough," Erick growls at Jason.
I pat Erick on the chest. "I do not think he killed anyone," I say, looking up at Erick.
Raven watches Jason in the cell. "He looks like a killer," Raven says.
I smile at Raven. "So, do I, and so do you," I remind him.
Jason sits down on his cot as I leave. "Come back soon, Kate. We have a lot to talk about, you and me. I need your help, and before long, you will need mine. You and your little girl," Jason says as I walk out the door. I wonder what he meant by that. I will need his help. Why would Belle need his help? Is the white wolf still around? I have more questions than answers.
I know Erick is going to flip out over this vampire. Something tells me that Jason is not the murderer. He was here to see Liam. I want to know every detail about any encounter they had. More than anything, I want to know where Liam's body is located.
I walk to the truck and get in, waiting for Raven and Erick to ask me what happened. The two of them look at me with anticipation. I can feel their eyes and thoughts on me, worrying about me.
"Well, what did he say?" Erick asks. His eyebrows raised and looking at me, not amused with my behavior.
"Well, I think first we need to find Liam's body. I have a feeling that Jason had nothing to do with any of this. I think he needs help," I say.
Raven lets out a long breath. "The council did not say anything about the body or if they moved it, but it is not at Liam's house. I was in Liam's house," Raven says.
I turn to Erick. "Are we sure he is dead? Did the council even say anything about how he died or what they did to the body? No, they did not. So shouldn't we have a look?" I ask.
Erick thinks for a moment. "You think they were setting you up or setting that vampire up for this?" Erick asks me.
I nod my head and smile. "I do. I think they were setting me up for Liam, and then I think someone killed the council to pin it on Jason when he showed up to see me," I answer.
"And why was Mr. Death here to see you?" Erick asks.
"He says he needs my help. He asked Liam to arrange a meeting with me, which I find off because I would never agree to see someone if Liam asked, maybe Raven but not Liam. Everything is so wrong with this situation," I say.
Erick starts the car and starts driving toward the Imperial cabins. "What are you doing?" I ask him. I want to go home and check on my children, and I know Raven wants to check on Meaghan.
Erick looks over at Raven and then continues driving. "I think we should go to Liam's and have a look around, but if you think it is a bad idea, I will turn around Kate," Erick says.
I look at Raven. I know he wants to be with his wife and child. "Raven, it is up to you. What do you think we should do?" I ask him.
"We need to find out what is going on with Liam. I want my pack and my family safe," Raven says.
"Okay, then we are going to Liam’s cabin, but I am in charge. The two of you will follow my lead, got it," I say, eyeballing both of them.
I honestly wish I could go without them. I could connect to the spiritual plane and see if Liam is alive or dead. Erick will never approve of me doing that. I need to know. I think that son of a bitch is alive. NO! I know he is alive.
