Chapter 61 Her Father
ANGELICA'S POV
The silence in the room was suffocating. I sat curled up in the centre of the bed, and the scent of scented candles that Tyler had brought earlier wafted through my nostrils, making me even more uncomfortable than easing my nerves, as he claimed.
“Have a good rest. We will return tomorrow morning,” Tyler said before leaving, and I nodded meekly.
My thoughts were spiralling like the ugly smoke of an extinguished fire.
My mother’s words about the twins, my stepfather’s identity as one of the alphas, and my mom hiding this from me, everything was revolving in my head like a cursed chant.
After going through everything, the attack, the abduction, the rogues, their mocking laughter, it was hard to believe that anyone wasn’t at fault.
And yet, doubt kept creeping into my head.
The more I pieced together, the more I realised something was wrong.
Keith was too confident. The smirk on his face said it all, like he knew the twin alphas would come for me.
Though I believed they were using me as a pawn against my stepfather, the way my mother vouched for them and not for her husband, the way they were looking for me, not in a guilty conscience but in desperation…
Remembering how Tyler said he wouldn’t disturb me for the rest of the night and that I should have a good night's sleep, I slid into bed, hugging myself under the duvet.
I closed my eyes, hoping for everything to come together as sleep started to take over me after the tiring events.

The surroundings were bright. There were no doors or windows, nothing particular in sight, just plain glowing light. The warm light caressed my skin like morning sunlight.
I knew it wasn’t real. It has to be a dream.
It looked too heavenly to be real.
“My little star,” A voice came, a voice too familiar.
Tears of hope welled in my eyes. It has to be him.
As the cloud haze cleared, I saw a man standing at some distance. His figure wasn’t precise; he appeared like a drifting soul, but I knew it was him.
“Dada,” I whispered, saying the same name I used to call him when I was little.
“I know you are confused, my little one,” He said, more like whispering.
Nothing mattered in that moment anymore. I rushed forward to meet him, to touch him so I could feel him caressing my head again, but the more I moved forward, the more he drifted away, and I clenched my fists in realization.
I couldn’t touch him.
He was like the ocean's depth that I could feel and know, but couldn’t measure.
“I can’t reach you, Dada,” I choked.
The man before me chuckled, just like how I remembered his laugh.
“It’s not your time to reach me yet, my little one. I have come with a purpose,” he whispered.
This time, I didn’t say anything, wanting him to tell his part.
“The world you are waking up to is not something you were taught to believe in. I know you are finding it hard to trust people,” he said, and I nodded.
I didn’t know what was happening around me. People were turning supernatural, my family wasn’t something I used to know, and everything felt like it was falling apart.
“You will have to be patient, my little one. Your time is coming. The truth of your bloodline… your powers…they will all reveal themselves in time,” He said with an angelic smile.
But I couldn’t concentrate on his words. My attention snapped to what he was saying. Powers?
“What are you talking about, Dada?” I asked.
He sighed, a defeated, dejected sigh.
“I did things you may not understand, but everything I did was to protect you. To prepare you. You must accept it slowly and with strength. Fighting it won’t help. It’s your destiny, my little one,” He said.
“I am scared, Dada,” I whispered, falling on my knees.
“You won’t be alone,” he whispered as he approached me and placed his hand on my head.
I was about to ask him if he would arrive in my dreams again so I could meet him, but before that, a sharp voice brought me out of my haze.
I opened my eyes slowly, wondering what that sound was. And then it appeared again.
Tap! Tap!
I looked to my left, where the window was. It sounded like someone was hitting the window.
I walked to the window to look down to see who it was, afraid Keith’s people were here, but as soon as I saw who it was, my pupils dilated and I smiled in relief.
“Coral?”
His sharp eyes met mine, and he smiled, waving at me to stay where I was.
Coral was my stepfather’s most loyal and athletic subordinate. I saw him climbing the pipes before he jumped onto my balcony.
“Found you,” he mused softly, and I couldn’t help the emotional turmoil in my heart.
I threw my arms around him.
He had always been my shadow guardian since my mom married Ronaldo.
“What took you so long?” I complained, and the man chuckled before ruffling my hair.
“Keep your voice down. I checked the area. Alpha Tyler isn’t here. He has gone to meet his beta. It looks like he doesn’t trust his people regarding you. This is our opportunity,” Coral said.
I nodded hurriedly and rushed inside the room to put on a pair of leggings under my oversized T-shirt that Tyler had bought for me.
He was probably a good man, but the circumstances weren’t right. I didn’t want to trust him yet, not when everything around me was a mess.
“Will you be able to run and —” Coral stopped when his gaze landed on my obvious wounds before he sighed.
I could feel fatherly concern in his gaze, and I shook my head at him.
It wasn’t the time to feel his pity. It was my turn to get away from this mess and meet my mother for answers.
Coral lifted me in his arms and jumped from the second floor, making me gasp. I realized how effortless it always was for them to jump and run, and the question lingered in my head.
“Are you–” I bit my lip as he ran towards the city.
“-a werewolf, too?” He asked and I nodded.
“I am. A proud beta,” Coral said.
His words made me shrink in my position, and I am sure he could feel it, but the guy didn’t say anything.
“You have no idea how scared I feel, how lost I feel in this world that suddenly looks unfamiliar. It’s like I was never a part of it. Everything was a lie,” I whispered, placing my head on his shoulders.
For some reason, I felt I could share my emotions with him.
“I know it’s hard, little one,” Coral whispered, reminding me of my dad. Tears brimmed in my eyes, silently falling from the corner of my eyes as sleep took over me for the second time in the same night, this time in a safe place.
