Chapter 48 The truth
ANGELICA'S POV
Why was my head hurting like this? I groaned before trying to open my eyes. However, it felt like something heavy was placed on my eyelids.
"What did you do to her?"
I heard a voice around me and immediately recognised it was Ericson.
"What did I do? What the hell were you thinking? Were you thinking about claiming her without revealing the ritual? How could you?" Dylan's voice came next.
I scrunched my brows.
What the hell were these guys talking about? What kind of ritual? What happened ---
My thoughts paused as the events of last night rushed to my head and my body shivered involuntarily.
Was it real? Had what I seen real? Had Ericson turned into a wolf? A freaking wolf?
I tried to open my eyes again, fear engulfing my body as the survival instinct told me to run away from them.
No. That wasn't right either. If I woke up now, they would keep me here. Besides, don't these wolves love to chase?
It was hard to decipher what was right or wrong anymore. All I knew was that I needed to be out of here.
Everything had been too good to be true. I felt like a prey before them.
What were their intentions from the beginning? Was it related to a conspiracy that I had no idea about?
Multiple thoughts clouded my mind, and it became practically impossible for me to remain still as my heart beat picked up.
"Are you pretending to be asleep, Mi Amore?" Ericson asked, and my body stiffened.
My hand couldn't help but flinch when he placed his hands on mine.
"Are you afraid of me?" He asked slowly.
I suppressed the urge to clench my fists in nervousness and reveal that I was indeed scared.
"Huh... What were you thinking last night? Do you even know how dangerous it was? Why do you attract so many wolves? If Dylan and I hadn't come in time, you would've been dead," Ericson said, and I furrowed my brows.
What did he mean they came in time? He was the one who had turned into a wolf, hadn't he? Was he trying to hide it with this useless coverup?
I opened my eyes and looked straight into his amber eyes, which seemed so clear and genuine that my heart skipped a beat.
"I am glad you are awake," Ericson whispered before tucking my hair behind my ears.
Normally, I would've swooned at his words and actions, but I couldn't believe in him today for some reason.
"You changed into a wolf," I said, ensuring my voice was firm so they would know I knew I wasn't delusional.
He didn't say anything for some time and just kept looking at me, his hands still touching the side of my face and neck.
My attention snapped to Dylan who returned from God knows where and looked at me with a genuine smile.
"What are you talking about? How could Ericson turn into a wolf? Are you still in a haze of sleep?" Dylan chuckled.
His smile and laugh, which used to make me want to give everything to them, suddenly felt fake, and I kept looking into his blue eyes.
I didn't react and just turned around, away from them. I didn't know what to say. Was I dreaming? Had the wolves and everything related—all the conspiracies—corrupted my mind so I saw these two handsome men turning into wolves?
No. This was indeed their way of making me forget about the matter.
Why would I imagine a man turning into a wolf out of nowhere?
“Do you think that was what happened?” Ericson asked, his thumb rubbing my jaws.
I gulped my saliva, nervously.
“You saw it right,”
“I turned into a wolf,” Ericson confessed after some time, and my eyes widened.
I was about to speak when Dylan beat me to it.
“Eric! What are you doing?” He snapped.
Ericson turned to Dylan briefly.
“I am doing what we should've done long ago; telling her the truth. You say that we need to find ways to get close to her heart before she would accept us. How do you expect that to happen on a path of lies?” Ericson asked Dylan.
“We should've come clean when she saw those wolves chasing us, but we kept dragging it. She must know that she is our mate and our destined betrothed, which is why we fell in love with her from the moment we saw her,” Ericson added.
Usually these words would've made my heart flutter but not this time.
I saw Ericson and Dylan in a face-off and couldn't help but try to sneak away at the opportunity.
This was the only time I could do it.
These people have lost their minds if they think I, a sane person, would stay and risk my life with what they were playing at.
I got down from the bed and tiptoed towards the gate.
“If I were you, I wouldn't have made the same mistake twice,” Ericson's cold voice reverberated, and I shrieked.
I ran.
I had always been athletic. I couldn't see it clearly at night, but I could do it now. With this thought, I ran without caring in which direction I was running into.
I always thought things like these were never confirmed. Yes, I heard about them, watched movies about them and even enjoyed reading erotic scenes in books, but to imagine and see it in real was two different things.
My heart raced as adrenaline kicked in.
Seeing the border of the pack after what felt like an eternity of running, a ray of hope shone in my heart, and I was about to cross the boundaries that Dylan had mentioned, after which their land had ended.
However, before I could cross it, I saw two large wolves standing before me, their amber eyes looking directly into my soul.
“Don't run away from us, mate. At least give us a chance,” I heard a voice. Before I could say anything, the wolves before me turned into Dylan and Ericson.
My eyes widened in shock. If I had thought I had been mistaken earlier, they had done it again before me, and there was no mistake this time.
However, that wasn't what shocked me. Their bodies were naked from head to toe, making heat rush to my cheeks as wetness seeped through my pssy.
I couldn't believe myself. Even in such a dire situation where I might die, I was finding these men hot and wanted them to go down on me.
My heart skipped a beat for a different reason that I was ashamed of as I tried hard to keep my eyes on their face.
“It's natural, baby. You are our betrothed. You are bound to feel attracted to us in ways no one has ever felt.” Ericson walked to me, cupped my cheeks, and made me close my eyes.
My body leaned into his touch involuntarily, as if submitting to him already. It was almost as if my body had already decided this was our fate before I could tell it.
“Don't run away from us. We waited for an eternity to meet you, mate.” Dylan's cold, a shade deeper voice made me cross my legs.
I didn't know what to say to them. This was too much for me to take in.
I looked at the exit with yearning, feeling contemplative. It wasn’t like I could outrun them.
“It's true that we are werewolves. We can turn into predators, and you are our mate. This place is our pack, and these people are our members—just like the King and his people. Please give us a chance to explain everything.” Dylan held my hand, and I licked my lips.
Ericson stepped aside.
“When I told you I loved you last night, I wanted to tell you the truth until you mentioned that stalker and what he did to you,” He looked down at his feet in guilt.
“I knew you would react like this, so I wanted to tell you how much I loved you beforehand. I never faked my emotions and cared for you. However, if you want to leave even after that, I won't stop you,” he said.
Dylan nodded and stepped aside.
I looked at the border right before me, and then at the two men looking at me with yearning. I pressed my lips into a thin line.
I seriously have zero survival instincts.
The heights to which I am going are just because these two men are extremely hot. I sighed.
“Just remember I am doing this because I find you hot. If I don't like the explanation, you guys are taking me back to my city,” I said. Ericson and Dylan immediately held my hand, with hope in their eyes.
I shook my head, following them back to their house, hoping I wouldn't regret this.
