Chapter 103 The baby's soul
THIRD PERSON’S POV
Angelica watched the horror in the demon king's eyes as he pushed her away with so much force that her body hit the wall with a thud before sliding to the ground.
She groaned in pain before supporting her body up, her hand reaching for her abdomen immediately to ensure her baby was alright.
She swallowed hard when she noticed how the demon king knelt before the incubator cell and screamed in agony to mourn for his child that was burning.
Even when he was the king of hell and played with fire daily, he couldn't stop the fire that was engulfing his son’s body.
Tears brimmed in Angelica’s eyes when she saw how helpless and grief-ridden he was. For a second, she wanted to regret what she had done, but she also knew it was really important if she wanted to free everyone, especially him, from this toxic cycle of hope.
However, the scene also made her realize that staying there would be harmful, not only to her but to her baby as well. If she stayed there for another minute, she might never see her alphas, and the demon king would kill her.
She opened her palm in a hurry, where she was holding the string that Alchemist had given her.
She was ready to pull the string to let the alphas know her work here was done. There would be no reason for the demon king to come for their baby, but as soon as she opened her palm, her body froze, her heart skipping a beat.
The string wasn't in her hand. The string probably slipped from her hand when the demon king pushed her away.
“Looking for this?” Angelica heard the demon king's cold voice, and her eyes widened when she saw the string in his hand that he immediately placed in that burning incubator.
“No!” Angelica screamed at the top of her lungs, quickly rushing to save the string from burning.
That was her only hope to return to the pack.
“What? You really thought you would be able to go out of here alive after you killed my son? Both mother and daughter are the same. You really know how to stab someone in the back." The demon king rose from his place and grabbed Angelica's throat, raising her in the air.
Angelica's eyes widened as she flailed her legs, placing her hand on the demon king's to loosen his grip on her throat. However, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move his hand even an inch.
“Please, let go of me. I did it for your better,” Angelica struggled to speak, her words only making the demon king laugh maniacally before he used his speed and slammed her head into the wall.
The impact on her head made her see a dark spot immediately as she smelled the familiar smell of her blood dribbling down her temples.
“Let go of you? You have no idea how much pain I am in, but I have every intention of showing it to you,” the demon king said.
At the same time, in the Blood Martial pack, Dylan and Ericson felt something was wrong and opened their eyes immediately.
They felt a strange burning sensation in their bodies and immediately looked at the string attached to their hands. The string was burning from nowhere.
“What the hell?” Ericsson shouted.
His angered growl made Alchemist open his eyes, and he looked at the string with wide eyes.
The string that he has made from thousand-year-old spells alone was burning? How was that even possible?
The string was supposed to burn and break only if Angelica did it. Did that mean Angelica burnt the thread herself? Or was it that the demon king threw the thread in the fire she started?
“What is going on, Alchemist? You said this string would ensure she is with us and can return safely. But the string is burning,” Dylan said, still not letting go of that string, which was burning his skin now, in hopes that it would still help Angelica.
Alchemist swallowed hard. He didn't know what to answer the alphas anymore.
“This… this is bad. I won't sugarcoat it for you. Something bad has happened there. If she started the fire, I am unsure, but it looks like she burnt something, probably the body of the Demon King's son. And it must've made the king mad,” Alchemist said.
Ericson stood from the circle.
“Are you saying our mate is in trouble and there's nothing we can do about it? Teleport us there this instant! We will bring her back ourselves,” Ericson said.
He was about to step out of the circle when Dylan held his hand, right at the time Alchemist shouted.
“No!” he shouted.
“I told you. You can't come out of this circle until Angelica returns, or the spells binding her would kill her,” Alchemist said.
Ericson's eyes widened, and he quickly stepped back into the circle, his heart skipping a beat when he realized that his actions just now almost killed his mate.
“So are you telling us that even after knowing our mate’s life is in danger and that monster might kill her, we can't step out of this circle, and you can't teleport us there either?” Dylan asked.
Alchemist looked down at his feet. His silence was all the answer they needed to hear.
“Damn it! You have to be kidding me! How the hell did this string burn?" Ericson shouted angrily, his wolf on the edge as his heart was pounding hard against his chest, afraid for his mate.
In the demon realm, Angelica coughed blood as she saw red, the blood drops going into her eyes.
“I have been keeping my son alive for so long, yet you destroyed it all in a second. You must die. Just like your mother. I should've killed that woman the moment she brought James to meet me." The demon king raised his fist to punch Angelica, wanting to take out his years of anger on the girl.
Angelica flinched back and prayed to her powers to help her in any way they could.
She really didn't want to die. She wanted to stay alive for her kid.
Please. I beg you. Do something. I can't die like this. You promised to protect me. Angelica said to Cecilia.
The demon king, who was about to bring his fists down, stopped when he heard a soft voice behind him.
“Dada?” The king froze and turned around, unable to find the source of the voice.
Angelica opened her eyes when the pain she had expected never came and looked at the floating illusion of a little kid.
The demon king followed her gaze and looked at the floating kid.
“Dada?” The kid said it again, and tears brimmed in the demon king's eyes for the first time.
“Baby? My baby? Come down. Let Dada hold you for once." The demon king quickly knelt and wiped his face, faking a big smile so he wouldn't scare the child away.
“Dada, why are you beating her? She helped me. I had been in so much pain, Dada. I died that night. But your love kept me here. You grew my body with the energy of those witches.
It was full of pain. It hurt so much, Dada. I wanted to tell you. But you wouldn't listen. Thanks to this lady who called my soul. She freed me, Dada. I am so happy now,” the kid said in his cute little voice.
The demon king's hands trembled.
“Y-you were in pain? Because of my actions?” He asked, a new set of tears rolling down his cheeks as he finally realized what he had been doing all these years.
His son died long ago. He could've gone to heaven, just like all angels, but his selfish love had been keeping him in hell, hurting him in the process.
“I am sorry. I am so sorry, baby. It wasn't my intention. Please forgive me,” the demon king wept for the first time since his wife and child died.
Tears brimmed in Angelica's eyes as her hand reached for her baby protectively.
“We understand you, honey." Another voice came, and the demon king looked up in surprise.
Angelica understood it was the demon king's wife.
“Honey! Honey, please forgive me. It's all because of me. If I had permitted their marriage, you would have been alive. Both of you,” the demon king cried.
The woman, so beautiful and glowing like a true angel, smiled.
“It wasn't. That was our time, honey. It hurt us when we saw you in so much pain. Please move on. Our kid will take his rebirth, and as for me, I have completed my duties as an angel. Goodbye,” the woman said.
The woman's and the kid's souls then turned to Angelica and thanked her before disappearing into thin air.
The demon king kept crying on the ground, no one daring to approach him.
Angelica knew it would be a foolish move, but maybe because she was the daughter of an angel, she crawled closer to the demon king and patted his shoulders comfortingly.
The man turned to her and hugged her tight, crying in her arms.
“I am so sorry. I hurt you, too. You were just helping my son to come out of the pain, and I hurt you. Please forgive me,” the demon king kept apologizing, and Angelica sighed before nodding.
This turned out better than she had thought, and it was thanks to Alchemist, who probably felt her distress and called these souls to help her out.
