Chapter 56
After hearing this, Edward fell silent for a moment, then slammed the table in fury.
"Benjamin! You don't do any real work all day, just pull these shady stunts for me, is that it? You're not fit to be part of the Harris family!"
"Starting today, you're not going to the office anymore. Stay home and reflect on what you've done!"
With that, he hung up the phone angrily!
Benjamin didn't even get a chance to ask why. He was completely stunned.
"That brat has really gone too far, saying whatever he wants! Charlotte acknowledged Daniel as her grandfather, and he can twist it into something so disgusting. How did he even come up with that!"
Edward was indignant on Charlotte's behalf. After venting his anger, he noticed that Alexander beside him hadn't reacted at all.
He frowned and looked over curiously, only to see Alexander staring at those photos, swiping back and forth, finally stopping at one where Charlotte was smiling brightly.
Edward was curious. "What are you doing? What's so interesting about that photo?"
Alexander murmured, "She's never smiled at me this happily before."
Edward paused, almost rolling his eyes to the sky.
His son, who had always stayed away from women, was now bothered by something like this.
So he really does become lovesick once he falls for someone.
Well, that's his son alright.
Back when he met Alexander's mother and quickly fell in love, he was the same way.
Whenever he saw Alexander's mother laughing and chatting with other men, he wanted to kill them all.
Thinking about his younger days, Edward's eyes unconsciously showed a hint of amusement.
He snorted twice. "She's not even your girlfriend yet, and you're already this possessive. Isn't that a bit much? Girls don't like men who are too controlling."
Alexander snapped out of it. "I'm not discussing this with you anymore. Get some rest."
He turned and left. Edward called after him several times but couldn't stop him.
Today Charlotte went to the Langley Group.
She now had to clock in at the Langley Group every day.
After going to the White Group yesterday to understand the situation, Charlotte had a clear picture in her mind.
The strategic proposal she wrote, as long as the White Group followed it strictly, could solve eighty percent of the existing problems.
But as soon as she walked out the door, she saw Alexander's car parked at the entrance.
Charlotte frowned and walked over. "Mr. Harris?"
Alexander got out of the car directly, opened the passenger door for her, and stared straight at her.
"Get in."
Charlotte noticed his gaze was strange, as if it carried some longing and something else.
In any case, the warmth in his eyes made her involuntarily look away, unable to maintain eye contact for long.
Charlotte just felt it was odd and walked around to sit in the passenger seat.
"I still need to go to work."
"Yes, I know, so I'm taking you to work now."
Alexander paused. Seeing she hadn't fastened her seatbelt yet, he leaned over, reaching his hand to the other side of Charlotte's waist.
His movement looked as if he wanted to embrace Charlotte fully.
Charlotte was startled and instinctively pressed against his shoulder.
"What are you doing? Don't do that."
Before she could do anything else, Alexander couldn't help but laugh.
"Did you think I was trying to take advantage of you?" He smiled and reached over to pull the seatbelt.
Charlotte glanced at it, her cheeks warming slightly, and pushed at Alexander's arm.
"Don't be so forward, I can do it myself..."
She tried to take the seatbelt from him, but Alexander wouldn't let her.
He said softly, "Charlotte."
Alexander's tone was very gentle, gentle to the point of being abnormal.
Charlotte slowly frowned. "Can you not be like this?"
Alexander unhurriedly fastened her seatbelt, but one hand still rested on the seat behind her, encircling her.
He sounded a bit aggrieved. "Did you go to the White Estate yesterday?"
Charlotte was stunned. "Yes, how did you know?"
Alexander picked up his phone and showed her several photos.
"Benjamin had someone take these. He told my father that after leaving the Johnson family, the reason you're doing so well and rejecting his advances is because you've latched onto a rich old man."
Looking at those photos, Charlotte almost laughed in anger.
Her normal conversation with Daniel could be misunderstood like this.
She snorted coldly. "I won't let Benjamin get away with this."
"Mm, you don't need to do anything. My father has already taken him back to the Harris Estate and grounded him. He's not letting him handle company matters recently either. But compared to this, isn't there something more important?"
Alexander's tone became increasingly aggrieved as he looked at Charlotte expectantly.
Charlotte didn't understand. "What else could there be?"
Alexander's lips moved softly. "You've never smiled at me this brightly, yet you smile at Daniel like this?"
Charlotte was shocked to hear this.
"Alexander, are you jealous?"
"Yes." Alexander admitted without hesitation. "I am jealous, so what? Your smile is so beautiful. When I think about how you can smile at others but not at me, I feel unhappy."
He leaned closer, lowering his voice. "Did all my efforts to make you happy yesterday not earn me even the slightest place in your heart?"
Charlotte's breathing hitched slightly.
Alexander's warm breath fell on her ear, those burning eyes staring at her, making her whole body stiff and uncomfortable.
Her heartbeat quickened by two beats, and she forcefully pushed Alexander away.
"Can you not be like this? I'm not used to being so close to men."
"Then you should get used to it from now on." Alexander smiled and sat up straight. "Once you get used to it every day, it'll be fine."
"Every day?"
Charlotte turned her head, looking at him somewhat surprised. "Don't tell me you're going to drive me to work every day?"
"Why not?"
Alexander smiled indulgently and playfully. "Do you know that I've never picked up or dropped off any woman before, yet now I'm willing to be your driver?"
Charlotte crossed her arms. "I don't even care for it."
"Fine, it's me, it's me who insists on being your driver, it's me who doesn't care about any dignity in front of you, just wanting to spend more time with you."
Alexander smiled, looking ahead as he drove. "So, are you willing? Let me pick you up and drop you off from work. This way you won't be tired from driving."
Charlotte snorted softly.
She particularly disliked getting unnecessarily entangled with others. All along, she had been like a lone wolf, with Jason seemingly being the only one she trusted.
He was a subordinate who had been with her since childhood.
At this moment, hearing Alexander say this, she should have refused.
But somehow, inexplicably, she didn't say the words of rejection.
Charlotte's cheeks flushed slightly, and she reluctantly hummed in agreement. "Depends on my mood."
