Chapter 3

Underneath him, Louis shuddered and cried out. “Oh, yeah! I’m coming!”

Terror seized George once again. The thought of semen in his mouth repulsed him and yet he couldn’t escape.

An idea popped into his head. Only one way out

He bit down hard, his teeth pressing into the flesh. Louis screamed in agony. George hung on with his jaws clenched. The car swerved from side to side and his body shifted with the gravitational force. Louis released his hold on his hair to bring the car under control, grabbing the steering wheel with both hands.

George sat up and clutched the door handle, hanging on as Louis skidded to a stop. He turned to glare at the driver but Louis, howling in rage, punched him in the face.

The fist connected with his jaw, stunning him. Lightning flashed in front of his eyes. Before he could recover, Louis hit him again. Shock and pain urged him into motion. He scrambled to open the door under a barrage of blows, but in his panic, he couldn’t find the handle. He had to resort to jumping over the door to escape.

“Fucking bastard,” Louis screamed. “Get back here!”

George ran for the forest just a few yards away. As he reached the trees, a loud pop sounded behind him and a section of bark exploded next to his head, spraying him with splinters.

He’s got a gun!The realization spurred George on.

He crashed deeper into the woods, running blindly. Twigs slapped his face and he crashed into thick trunks. Louis continued firing and shouting curses. George tripped and fell, scraping his hands as he tried to brace himself for the impact. He scrambled for cover behind a large tree, panting. The shooting stopped.

He attempted to control his breathing while he peered around the tree to see where Louis was.

Maybe he’s given up?

A beam of light pierced the darkness, swinging back and forth. He ducked back, his heart lurched in his chest.

“I’ll find you, asshole,” the driver shouted. “And then I’ll fucking kill you!”

George stifled a gasp as the flashlight came nearer. He bolted further into the forest, seeking out the darkness. The noise he made on the leaves and twigs covering the forest floor pinpointed his position. The light found him and Louis began firing again in his direction. George ducked but kept running, the feeble light just enough to illuminate a way between the trees.

“There you are!” Another shot rang out and a bullet whizzed just over his head.

When is he going to run out of ammo?

The ground suddenly disappeared beneath his feet and he tumbled head-long down a steep slope. He rolled and fell through bushes and tall grass, hitting his head on saplings and roots. Finally, he landed in shallow water, his body draped over sharp rocks and he cried out in pain.

“Where are you, faggot?” Louis shouted from above. The flashlight swept the area but the thick bushes and plants prevented the beam from penetrating the foliage. George lay still, holding his breath with extreme difficulty. Louis shouted more curses and threats but did not venture down the bank. A few minutes later, he gave up and disappeared, plunging the area into complete darkness.

The sound of footsteps faded into the distance but George didn’t move. He remained half-submerged in the water until the aches subsided to dull pains and his eyes adjusted to the dark.

George had no idea how long he had lain there before he mustered the energy to stir. He strained his ears, listening for Louis’ car to leave but heard no sound other than the forest noises. He feared Louis hadn’t left but was just waiting to ambush him when he came out of hiding.

Rising to his feet, he stumbled among the rocks in the stream. The feeble light from the stars and the sliver of moon gave him scant illumination to find his way. He fell, scraping his knees, shins and elbows. A shoe came off and he splashed around on all fours before admitting defeat and abandoning his search.

The swift current must’ve swept it away

George groaned and trudged on. His pants and shirt were torn in multiple places and he had no idea where he was going.

This stream must lead somewhere, shouldn’t it? Where am I? Are there wild animals out here?

The forest seemed alive with noisy insects, frogs and more sounds he couldn’t identify. His body shuddered uncontrollably from the pain, from fear of being fired at, from being lost and cold despite the humid summer heat, and from shame at what he had been forced to do.

At last, unable to drag himself further, George climbed onto a large rock in the middle of the stream.
