Chapter 57

Daisy's pov

Both of us ran to where the cops were. Callum approached one of the cops. "Can I help you, officer?" The man in the uniform looked at the two of us, eyes widening. We looked like a mess. Both were covered in blood and scratches, and bite marks were all visible. "Do you live at this house?" "Yes." One officer was looking around. Then, one watched our interaction with the one in front of us.

"Do you know a woman named Daisy?" "That is me." He looked at me. I had tucked my body behind Callum's large frame. "You have been reported missing." "I am not missing clearly." He looked at my body. His eyes traveled to Callum and back to me again. "Do you know who Callum is?" "Yes, he is right here in front of you." His eyes fell on my mate once again. "I am going to have to take him in." "Why, what are the charges?" I moved in front of him.

"He has been charged with kidnapping." "What?" "He took you right." "No, I am here of my own free will." He looked around, eyeing the place. Callum had said this was considered its own Neighborhood to the humans. What was he looking around for? "He did not kidnap me. I love him, and I want to be here with him. I was not kidnapped; I am not being held against my will. Who is telling you all this shit." "Does not matter. We will need to investigate. Not only have there been charges of kidnapping, but there have also been animal mutilations in the woods, which is suspicious and has been going on for the past few months. He is a suspect."

My face fell. We hunted a lot, and our wolves were not gentle, fast kills. No normal animal would do what we did. We hardly ate what we killed. We would just leave the bodies to rot. Humans were catching on. "You can't arrest him based on suspicion." "We are not arresting him. We are taking him for questioning." This could not be happening. Everything was just settling down. We could not afford to have humans beginning to metal in our affairs. They would draw hunters.

Hunters usually stuck to rogues, but they would not hesitate to take down a pack if they saw an opening. I was freaking out. I heard Callum in my head. "Be calm, Daisy. It will be alright. I will go with them, answer their questions, and return soon. You need to stay here. The pack may need you. But I hope this will only take a few hours, no need to worry. Okay, it will just be a few hours." I felt he was wrong. I knew there was more to it than the cops were saying. I just had a feeling.

If he got in the car, it would be long until I saw him again. "Kill them." Summer screamed. I knew the laws, but I could not let them take them. "If you take him, I want to go with you." "Sorry, but we only want to question your mate." He had let that slip. He knew what we were. I didn't hesitate; I pounced on the man before me. I shifted mid-air, biting his head clean off. Callum was moving to get the others, but I felt something hot on my side. Then another. My vision was blurry. I tettered on the edge of consciousness. Then, another pinch of pain. I had been drugged.

I fought it. I needed to protect my mate. But before I knew it, my face was in the dirt. I had shifted back. I tried to mind Link, but I was so tired. I could barely keep my eyes open. I watched as they loaded Callum into a truck. Where had that come from? There were more people than the three officers. What was happening? How had they come onto the pack without us knowing? Why were they taking Callum? Why did they not want me? What was I going to do if he was gone? I tried to stand. "Jax, Liam, David, kill them." I sent it through the mind link. Only David responded. "On it."

Good, someone was coming to help. I could do this. We could get him back. Sleep was so inviting. "This bitch killed Jerry." I felt a sharp kick to the ribs. "Why would Matt like this bitch." Matt, he was involved in this. "Don't talk about or crew in front of her." "She won't remember. The drugs will eventually knock her out, and she will be fuzzy, and if that won't, then." He kicked me in the head hard. My skull felt like it was shattered. He did it again. I could not remain awake after that.

When I woke up, I was in my bed. Where was Callum? I was freaking out. What happened. I remember going into heat. Then those men came. "Callum," I called out over the Link. There was silence. What was happening? Why was he not responding ?"Jax Reid." Nothing. "David?" I heard his brother respond. "Daisy, you are awake." "Where is he?" "Hold on, I am coming up." I waited for him. When he knocked, I ripped the door open. "Well, where is he?" "He was taken."

"By who, hunters?" "I don't think so. They used a sedative on you, not silver. They probably used the same for him." "We have to go after them." "I already sent out our best trackers. It will take a while; maybe they drove away." "What do they want with him? They said, mate, they knew what we were?" "I don't have all the facts. I really don't. I just know we will find him." I burst out crying. "What about Reid and Jax?" "They were taken too." "Where was everyone?" I said through tears.

"Reid told them to stay away while the humans were here. It is good, too. Maybe more of us would be taken." How had this happened? I thought we were free to go on and live without all the stress for once. No impending war. Just us and the pack. Then I thought. "Matt." The name came to me. He is where I would start, and he would die. "I am going off the pack. I am going after them." "Daisy, you need to rest; okay if you insist on going. Go tomorrow." He was right; I was still woozy. I mind-linked Zelda. "Bring me, Matt; he is going to be tortured." "Yes, Luna." I will have my answers soon enough.
