Chapter 10 Ten
“Your name?”
“Lissa Austin.”
“And you are?”
“The youngest and most loved wife, Detective Lizzy.”
She sobbed.
“Mr. Kenneth loved me so much, but that fool has divided us. She never liked me, she has hated me since the first day I was brought into the house as the third wife.”
She cried out.
“How was your relationship with Mr. Kenneth before he died? Have you guys ever had a misunderstanding before?”
“Absolutely not. Even though his other wives, especially the second wife, fight with him a lot, I have never fought with my dear husband.”
Hmmm
“And kids? Do you have kids with him?”
She wiped her tears and sniffled.
“No, Detective Lizzy, we have been married for only a few months.”
She said,
“Looking at Mr. Kenneth’s age, don't you think he is old enough to be your father? Why did you marry an older man?”
She scoffed.
“Love surpasses everything, Detective Lizzy. Besides, age is just a number.”
She shrugged her shoulders.
One more thing,
“Did you marry him because of his wealth?”
She gasped.
“This is an insult, Detective Lizzy. How could you say a thing such as this?”
She shook her head sadly.
“My uncle is one of the richest people in this city, there is no way I will be controlled by money.”
Her uncle?
“Who is your uncle?”
“Mr. Gabriel, is well known across the country.”
Of course, Mr. Gabriel is well known.
Anyway, I have gotten just the information I need from her.
“Bring in the next person.”
I called out.
“Detective Lizzy, you have to believe me, that woman is a green snake, she can play innocent to be free from the accusation. But I swear, she was the one who killed Mr. Kenneth.”
I waved my hand and she left.
The second wife was brought in, and just like the youngest, she too is sobbing bitterly.
“Lissa hates me so much that is why she will do anything to frame me, Detective Lizzy, but I swear. I wasn't the one who killed him.”
She sobbed.
“But Lissa said you and Mr. Kenneth fought this morning, and you threatened to kill him before the day ends. Is that true?”
She burst into tears.
“Yes, Detective Lizzy, and I regret saying that.”
Funny.
“Why did you kill him?”
She lifted her head.
“I didn't kill him, I swear I didn't. In the morning, when I went to remind him of the money he promised me, he yelled insults at me and said he was tired of our marriage.
Then I got angry and we started arguing.
He raised his hand at me, something he had never done before, and out of anger, I threatened him with death.
But believe me, I didn't know he was going to be killed today.
The killer must have heard me when I said that and used the opportunity, Detective Lizzy.”
“Lock her in the prison.”
I ordered.
“But I am not a fugitive, please do not lock me up, I have little kids to take care of.”
As soon as she was dragged out, the next wife was brought in.
Surprisingly, she is the only one who hasn't shed a tear among the wives.
And also, she doesn't look shocked about the death.
“When all he does in his life is to marry new wives all the time, what do you think will happen?”
She scoffed.
“Kenneth and I have been married for 30 years, and apart from the children we had together, there is nothing else to show for this marriage.
When our first son turned 10, Kenneth started bringing in different women into the house in the name of marriage.
And anytime I complain, he threatens to send me packing.”
I wonder what pleasure some men derive from keeping so many wives.
“Do you mean he was murdered by the two wives?”
She shrugged her shoulders.
“I won't be surprised.”
She said,
“So who do you think is the murderer among them?”
She hesitated for a while before answering.
“I can't say who it was, but both of them are only after his wealth.
Lisa who only married him a few months ago has gathered a lot of property from him,
And Anna, the second wife, only has three properties which he gave her.
Lisa and Anna are competing for material things, not for his love.
I can say, they didn't love him from the start, they only married him for his wealth.”
Okay,
“What about you? Don't you think he should have given you something out of his wealth too?”
She sneered.
“He never loved me from the start, so he didn't even care if I existed or not.”
Wonderful.
A wife whom he didn't love, and two wives who were only after his wealth.
This is going well,
And in no time, the murderer will be caught.
“Bring in his eldest son.”
The officer left and after a while, came back with the eldest son.
“Kenneth Junior is the name.”
He said.
“And if you are going to ask me any question relating to that man’s death, I am not interested.”
“Isn't he your dad? And why is it that you and your Mum are not sad about the death?”
He laughed in his husky voice.
“If there is any name suitable to call that man, then a devil should be the name.”
Interesting.
“He doesn't regard me, my mum, or my siblings. Anna and Lisa are the only wives he loves.
And Anna’s three kids are his favorite.
He spends on them as if they are the only children he has,”
He inhaled deeply,
“You know what? I don't want to answer any more questions. His second wife and the youngest wife know about his death better than we do.”
Tsk tsk tsk
“There is one more thing I want you to clear for me,”
He raised a brow.
“Lisa and you are the same age, correct?”
He bobbed his head.
“So, has anything ever happened between you two?”
“What do you mean?”
“An intimate relationship.”
His eyes broadened in shock.
“I…i… have no idea wha…what you're talking…about.”
His eyes moved around in their sockets as he stammered.
Just as I had imagined, those two were cheating on Mr. Kenneth.
