Chapter 40 Untitled Chapter

Chapter 40 Untitled Chapter
Back at the Packhouse, while navigating through the phone, a video notification popped up. I clicked on it, thinking it was a video from the general, the video I had been waiting for him to send. However, it wasn't.

And the moment it started playing, my heart stilled for a few seconds. Then I sprang up, sitting straight, mouth agape, while staring at the screen with wide eyes.

It was Rowan, and beside him was Axel. So my suspicion wasn't wrong after all; Axel was really working for him.

That idiot! I thought the General would be able to apprehend him since I failed that day. I was so close to capturing him, but a heavy wind rose, knocking me down.

“Amelia Brook, here I am.” He chortled, then dropped his hand on Axel’s shoulder. “Do you think I will die? Absolutely not, I am more powerful than you, girl. And you should get ready to have your pack wiped out.”

Gosh! I regret not burning that dude!

“What is going on?”

Hans asked, wiping his wet hair with a towel.

“A video of Rowan and Axel.”

He lifted a brow surprisingly, then took the phone from me.

“Axel? How did he…” He gasped, sitting down on the bed while his eyes were fixed on the phone screen.

If only we had known from the beginning that Axel was a spy, we could have gotten rid of him. Now he knows about my fake marriage to Hans and also my magic.

I don't really care about him letting the whole kingdom know that I possess magic; I'm not the first one to have it and won't be the last.

I am only worried he will talk about the fake marriage, then they'll gossip about it, and it will be all over the internet.

“We need to track their location, Amelia; we must capture them.” He passed the phone to me.

Sighs. We must find them. But how? We don't know where they are or whether they are in this kingdom or not.

“Hans, do you remember when Axel said those who killed your parents and mine will come after me?”

He sighed deeply, shook his head, and bobbed.

“I thought it was only an accident; I didn't know they were killed.”

Same thing with my parents. They were involved in an accident, but I knew they were killed, and I know all those who had a hand in their death.

So, if Hans’ parents and my parents were killed by the same people, why would they do that? I've got a heads-up from the healer that his mom, Luna Elaine, and I have something in common. Could it be because of that? Or what?

“Why don't we dig into the reason they were killed, Hans? I know the killers already, and after I am done with Rowan, I will move on to the next pack until I avenge my parents’ deaths.”

“We will do that.”

Throughout that day, I did nothing other than rewatch the video over and over again, trying to see if I could figure out the location they were standing in during the making of that video.

And even though that place looked familiar, I still couldn't figure it out.

Well, Rowan’s left hand is gone, so it is also a win. And he will live the rest of his life with just a hand and hating himself so much when he remembers that it was I who cut it off.

“Why not reply to the video he sent, Amelia? Let us fuel his heart and see how he is going to react.”

Oh, that sounds like a good idea.

I didn't even think about that since morning; I would have replied.

“Thanks, Amy, watch this.”

My eyes gleamed in mischief as I typed the message, crafting each word in a way that it would pierce into his heart like a dagger.

Rowan might not be able to sleep properly today if he reads that message, and I hope he does.

After I clicked send, Amy burst into laughter, and so did I.

“How I wish I could see his face as he read that message,” she laughed, wagging her tail.

Me too, but he will definitely send a reply, so we shall wait.

As we waited for his reply to pop up, Amy and I kept talking about all the things we would do to Rowan the next time we got our hands on him.

Suddenly, his reply popped up, each word conveying a deadly threat. But that didn't move me; it only made me laugh out loud.

“Tell him you don't read a message from someone with one hand.” Amy chuckled mischievously. “Also, add that he should go get a fake hand fixed on if he wants to send you a message.”

Gosh! I couldn't stop laughing at Amy’s words. I have really got one tough wolf here.

I wrote what she said, tossed my phone on the bed, and went to sleep, as it was already midnight.

As we arrived at the company the next morning, General Lykon was waiting for us with reports. Since I have refused to pick another Beta because of my experience with Axel, he has taken over the job for the meantime.

“The troops at the northern border who let Axel get away have been locked up in prison, Alpha Amelia. And if you give your order now, I will go have them beheaded.”

Yes, that is their consequence for letting a wanted criminal run away. However, it wasn't them who let him get away; Axel didn't even reach the border.

I saw him clearly, running towards the border, but the heavy wind that knocked me down carried him out of the Pack.

The wind didn't reach the border; it vanished into thin air. And that same black cloth I saw inside the wind the other time, I saw it in this one too.

Axel and Rowan are using dark magic; no wonder he came back alive.

“Release them,” I said, taking a seat.

“But they are wrongdoers, Alpha; we can't free them.”

“Release them; they are innocent. I saw all that happened, a black wind…”
