Chapter 33 Untitled Chapter
“Alpha Hans?” Axel stuttered, picking up the phone with trembling hands. Suddenly, sweat gathered on his face, and he became as clumsy as he always has been. If I hadn't seen the real side of him right now, I would have believed that was his actual behavior.
To be honest, I haven't been more fooled in my life like this. This dude has played it so real, and it makes me wonder what other things he is hiding from us.
“What are you doing here?” I stepped closer, looking him deep in the eyes. However, he kept avoiding eye contact with me, stepping back as if I was going to attack him.
“I…I…was… I was just checking around to see if…if I will find clues the assassin left behind.”
He thinks he can fool me? Not anymore.
“Axel, who are you? What is your mission in this Pack? And what game are you playing?” His eyes widened in shock as if he had just seen something that would hurt him behind me. From where I stood, I could also hear his heart, pounding in his chest like it would explode.
No denial; even he knew that he had been caught. And if he tries to lie to me again, he is going to get himself into trouble, a huge one.
“I don't know what you are talking about, Alpha Hans. I think you are mistaken.”
Oh, really? And now, he isn't stammering, trembling, or sweating anymore; he is speaking confidently, except for his face, which has a fake expression on it.
“What are you still waiting for, Hans? This idiot needs to be arrested now. Get ahold of him, or better still, let me at him!” Kael growled, thumping in my mind.
No, I wouldn't let him at Axel, at least not now. We shall wait for the right moment, but for now, we will keep an eye on him.
‘Hans? Sorry to interrupt you, but I think something bad has happened.” Kael stood up, eyes opening wide in frustration.
That made my heart skip for a breath, but I steadied it, thinking Kael was pulling my leg. But he has never played tricks with me using Amelia.
“What …” I was interrupted by the ringtone from my phone, and the moment my gaze fell on the caller, my breath ceased.
“Alpha Hans, you need to come quickly; something bad has happened to Alpha Amelia.”
Amelia, who just left this house right now? What on earth happened to her?
I glared at Axel, who had just asked what was going on, and ran out of there. I dove as fast as the highest speed, praying to the moon goddess to save Amelia from whatever must have happened to her.
When I arrived at the hospital where she was taken, there was crying everywhere. And the emergency unit reeked of blood.
“Can you feel Amy?”
I asked Kael as I looked around, hoping to see Amelia in any of the beds. When I swirled a curtain aside, I froze, staring at the guy who was gushing out blood from his mouth like a running tap. His left hand and left leg were severely injured, and his face was covered in injuries, which would make it difficult for him to be recognized.
But I did recognize him; he was the guy who drove Amelia out of the house a few minutes ago. And if he is like this, then what about Amelia?
My pulse thundered in my ears, and my eyes darted from one angle to the other.
“I can feel her; I can smell her!” Kael howled, eyes piercing through the door in front of us.
Without hesitating, I dashed towards the door, pushed it backward, and froze in my spot. My eyes blinked once, then twice, as if the world would change if I looked long enough.
My expectation of Amelia wasn't what I saw when I opened that door. I thought I would find her wriggling in pain, fighting between life and death, but I was wrong.
Amelia was sitting on the bed like the Alpha she is, back leaned against the bed frame, holding a cup of coffee in her hand. When she saw me, a smirk curled up her lips, and she scoffed loudly.
“Why on earth are you sweating like that? You look like you have just finished a marathon.”
Gosh! She scared me. I thought I had lost her when I saw her driver that way. But how did she manage to escape from that brutal injury? Wasn't she in the same car with the driver?
“When you are done looking at me that way, come over here and hear what I have to say.”
I couldn't even lift a step until Kael took control of me and went closer to the bed.
“How did that happen, Amelia?” I finally found my voice and sat beside her on the bed.
“It was like a wind, Hans. When we drove out of the manager’s house, I started having this feeling that something was going to happen if I didn't give the command to the driver to stop the car. However, I ignored those feelings, thinking it was just the negative part of my heart playing tricks on me. Unfortunately, a heavy wind blocked our way, and the car collided with a truck speeding towards us.” She sighed deeply, sipped the coffee, and shut her eyes.
A heavy wind? Looks like magic to me. There must be someone in this pack who is an enemy and is after Amelia’s life. And whoever it is, he or she isn't working alone; someone is sponsoring them.
“Hans, you should have seen that wind; it was so huge, and I think I saw black clothing floating inside the wind. It looked like it was controlling that wind.”
This is serious. Maybe we shouldn't turn our backs on this. It must be a dangerous thing that we must give our attention to.
“Don't you think we should go see the healer about this? I mean, healer Matt, he should be able to explain what you saw.”
Blue light flickered in her eyes, and she nodded her head, smiling.
“That sounds good, Hans. We shall go see the healer now.”
As soon as she got down from the bed and reached for her phone, Axel came in, looking as stupid as he always looks, before I saw the real side of him.
The moment he walked past me, a heavy scent hit my nostrils, a deep mint scent mixed with wood. Suddenly, my eyes bulged out, and Kael jumped on his paws.
“The killer!”
