A bad moment
Mason's grip on my arm was getting stronger and stronger and he didn't seem willing to back down and let me go. I didn't want to use my power on him, because I was afraid that instead of him obeying me, he would end up losing control and dragging me out of the place. This situation was making me more and more nervous, but I needed to control myself and get out of it on my own, even if inside I wanted to scream for help.
I smiled sweetly and innocently, holding Mason's hand, who loosened his grip instantly and looked at me in surprise. No doubt he hadn't expected that kind of reaction from me.
"I'd love to go with you, but my brother's had this curfew since he became an army officer." Mason's face went white and he immediately let go of me.
"I didn't know you had a brother, Benjamin didn't mention it," he said with an uncomfortable sideways smile.
"And why would Benjamin say anything about my brother?" I asked, once again pretending to be innocent and stupid, but I knew exactly why.
"Nothing, it's just that I'd like to know everything about the beautiful woman with whom I'd have one of the best dates of my life." My stomach churned at those empty, rehearsed words. "Maybe next time," he said, taking my hand and bringing it to his lips. I restrained the urge to pull my hand away and just kept smiling.
"Who knows, but right now I need to go. It was nice to meet you." I nodded as I walked away with quick steps, and then Mason grabbed my arm again.
Panic began to rise, I thought I had managed to dissuade him, but his persistent actions showed that he wasn't going to give up that easily. Then another hand covered Mason's, drawing our attention.
Fabian's smile had several meanings, among them a clear warning to Mason to back off.
"You were taking too long, so I came to get you," Fabian said, stroking my head.
"Is that your brother? You look nothing alike." Mason said, looking at both of us and smiling strangely.
"You're the man my sister came to meet," Fabian put himself between Mason and me, holding out his hand. "It wasn't in my plans to meet you like this, but I was worried about my sister and decided to check."
Mason accepted Fabian's gesture with a teasing smile. "Imagine, such a lovely sister must be protected."
They stared at each other with their hands clasped for a few seconds, then Fabian turned his back on him and walked towards me. I felt relieved that he was there, but at the same time, I was curious, after all, I hadn't told him where my meeting with Mason would be.
"Let's make another date, princess," Mason shouted as he got into his luxury car. Fabian turned around, threatening to go after him, but I grabbed his arm to stop him.
"It's no use," I said, and Fabian took a deep breath.
"I've already told you how much I hate that kind of human. It's a shame I'm forbidden to deal with him with my bare hands." Fabian opened and closed his hands a few times, and then I held them up to my face, taking a deep breath and feeling protected by his words.
"Let's just go home, these have been the longest and most terrible hours I've ever lived through," I said, pulling him in the opposite direction that Mason had taken.
We walked quietly along the crowded sidewalks, the sky was already dark and full of stars. I didn't think it would be so tiring to spend a few hours with Mason, all I wanted more than anything was to take a long hot bath and lie down cuddled up to Fabian's warm body.
A little further on we noticed a crowd, the sound of sirens dominating the night. We got closer and there were ambulances and policemen on the scene, trying to keep away the onlookers who were just getting in the way of their work. When I saw the rescuers, I couldn't help but think of Raphael, and an overwhelming longing took hold of my heart. I found myself trying to find him among the men in their dark blue uniforms, and then a pair of blue eyes connected with mine.
I felt myself being pulled towards Raphael, who came towards us immediately, leaving me extremely confused and uncomfortable. I looked at Fabian, who was staring at Raphael like a predator ready to pounce. Fear overwhelmed me, I didn't know what Raphael might say to Fabian or what his reaction would be. I even thought about fainting to avoid that encounter, but Raphael just stood in front of Fabian, looking at him deeply.
Neither of them spoke or moved for a few minutes, people began to look at us curiously, and some women stared longingly at Raphael and Fabian, irritating me deeply.
"How are you?" Raphael said, directing the question to Fabian.
"I don't suppose that's any of your business?" Fabian replied gruffly.
I looked at the two men in confusion, and then Raphael finally looked at me and smiled kindly. My arm was tugged and the next second I was standing behind Fabian.
"Don't even think about it," Fabian said in a threatening tone that made even the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
I put myself between the two men, resting my hands on each of their chests and pushing them away. "That's enough of that." I then turned to Fabian, "Let's go."
Fabian grabbed my wrist and pulled me along, taking long strides and moving us quickly away from where Raphael was standing. I looked back, but Raphael had already left.
As soon as we entered the apartment, Fabian went into the kitchen. I followed him and watched as he took various things out of the fridge and onto the worktop. The funniest thing was that we didn't have to eat any food, which showed how much he was trying to avoid giving me any room for questions, but that wasn't going to work.
"Fabian, what happened..." I tried to ask, but a slice of bread was placed in my mouth, silencing me.
"You didn't tell me about your meeting with that guy. You didn't seem very happy when I arrived." Fabian questioned, so I just accepted that he wouldn't tell me anything about the strange contact he'd had with Raphael. I bit into the bread and left the rest on the counter.
"I wasn't. That asshole tried to take me to his house by force." Fabian stopped moving, his back to me. I went over to him and wrapped my arms around his waist, resting my face on his back. Gradually I felt his body relax. "Don't worry about him, all I need is a little more time to discover his weakness, then it won't be necessary for me to interact with that man anymore."
Fabian's hands covered mine and his fingers intertwined with mine. His chest rose and fell slowly, and his heart beat rhythmically in my ears. I took a deep breath and felt my body relax too. Fabian turned and took hold of my shoulders, leaned over, and kissed my forehead gently. My whole body warmed up, but just as I was about to take the next step, Fabian pulled away and left the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" I asked, frustrated by his attitude.
"To solve a small problem, I won't be long. I promise." Then he left.
I stood in the passage from the kitchen to the living room, incredulous at what had happened. Fabian had chosen to go out to solve a problem over staying with me. I sat down on the sofa, throwing my head back and taking a deep breath.
"I think I'm going to have another talk with him when I get back."
My phone started ringing on the coffee table, I picked it up and answered without even looking at who was calling.
"Go ahead," I said, and a low laugh sounded on the other end of the line, making me sit up straight on the sofa.
"Sorry to call at such a late hour, but could you come down here?" I ran out onto the balcony and saw Raphael standing in front of the building's door, still wearing his first-aid uniform.
