Chapter 62: Chapter 0062
•RAVEN•
I opened my eyes to a familiar ceiling and background music. But I wasn't at the pack house, or at my father's house. I tilted my head and saw Daria.
"Oh," she sighed, relieved. "You're awake."
My throat felt dry, but I dragged every strength in me to sit up on the bed, even though I could feel painful twinges in my lower stomach.
My mind immediately raced to the baby that I was given a second chance to carry again, but I realized there was nothing there anymore.
"Please don't be afraid," she murmured as she leaned toward me. "You're safe here and I will ensure that you recover very quickly. Please lay back."
"Where am I?" I asked as I tried to get off the bed. I knew damn well where I was, but I didn't want to stay there any longer.
"You're in a hotel room in New York," she answered, stepping back from me. "Are you sure you can move all by yourself? You seemed pretty hurt when you were brought in. I was hired to take care of you until—"
"What happened to me?" I asked as I looked at my clothes on the couch and realized that I was wearing the same clothes that I had been wearing the first time I was brought to the hotel.
At first, I thought I was brought in from my last encounter with Tristan at the door with Rumi. But I went back in time again...
The last time I left the hotel, I went to my father's house, so this time, I had to do something different to prevent my death again.
But it seeemed like no matter what I did, I ended up with the same result. I ended up being killed by people I trusted and believed would bever bring me any harm.
"You lost your pregnancy, ma'am," she answered. "But we've done all we could to stop the bleeding. You should be allowed to go home once—"
I didn't wait for her to finish talking before I got out of the bed and went to the bathroom to change from their hotel gown.
Daria followed behind me as I went to the sink to brush my teeth and wash my face. I didn't say anything as I took off the gown and went to the drawer to find something else to wear.
The clothes that they took off from me when I came to the hotel were on the couch near the bed. They were clean.
"You can't go, ma'am," Daria said, her voice tinted with worry. "You need to rest before we can let you go. The man who brought you here made me promise to be here for you until you've recovered. Please get back on the bed."
I stopped what I was doing and turned to her when she mentioned Sebastian. "Sebastian Krane brought me here? Did he tell you where he was going?"
"No," she answered, clearing her throat. "And how do you know his name? He didn't tell anyone here who he was, and he told us that he found you in the forest and brought you here."
"Does it matter?" I rolled my eyes as I took the bag that Sebastian left when he brought me to the hotel. It had the thousand dollars inside that he probably left so I would use it when I was discharged.
"You can do whatever you can with the name," I added. "I'm sure you were wondering about it since the moment he left the hotel."
She stood there, stunned, and didn't stop me as I walked out the door.
And just when I was getting inside the elevator, Daria came running after me.
"Wait! You can't go now! Please come back!" She shouted as the elevator doors closed before she could reach me.
I rushed to the front entrance and stepped out into the busy street outside the hotel. It took me a minute to spot a taxi and call it down.
I hopped inside and it drove away before Daria could reach it. I leaned my head back on the seat and thought about my next stop.
The last time I went to someone for help, seeking shelter or a way to survive, I ended up dying. And twice now, I had suffered the weight of losing the one thing that mattered most to me.
My child.
Ir broke me into a million pieces when I had to endure my sister's betrayal for the second time. And when I looked into Tristan’s eyes and saw the love I thought he had for me, cold and distant, I realized that I had my back.
The only person who could save me was me.
So, I reached for the locket around my neck and caressed it. 'For whatever reason you gave it to me, Mom, I believe it is fulfilled. I have found the owner and he will take it. And no one will ever harm me again.'
When the taxi reached the small town of Amberfield, I paid the taxi fare and hopped out.
There was a small guest house by the side of the road. And I planned to stay there for the night and figure something out in the morning.
The town wasn't too bad, and it was far away from the busy cities. And from Blackwood.
When I reached the front desk, a woman pulled out a small book under the counter, and turned to me with a kind smile on her face.
"Hi, my name is Suzie. You're welcome to Maple Haven."
I smiled. "My name is Sloane. Sloane Vale."
