Chapter 44 Forty four
Salvatore stood there, completely still.
His eyes stayed on hers through the narrow crack of the door. “Mira,” he said again. This time softer. “Open the door.”
Mira didn’t move. Her fingers tightened around the edge of the door. “I already opened it,” she said quietly. “This is as far as I’m letting you in.”
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Salvatore’s gaze dropped to the chain lock…Then back to her.” You think that can stop me?”
Mira took a deep breath.“It’s late, Mr. Corvin. Go to bed.”
His expression remained unreadable. “Don’t make me break down this door.”
A disbelieving laugh escaped her. “Seriously? You’re going to use force to get your way now?”
His eyes held hers, then he sighed.
“Mira.”
The way he said her name made her heart flutter annoyingly. “This is how far you get,” she whispered.
A corner of his mouth twitched.
“Fine.”
He took a step back from the door.
Mira frowned.
“What are you—”
BANG.
His foot hit the door the entire frame rattled.
Mira jumped. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I asked nicely.”
BANG.
The door shook again.
“And you ignored me.”
“Are you insane?” she yelled
“You make me insane.”
BANG.
“Salvatore!”
Before he could kick it again, Mira yanked the door open. The chain swung uselessly against the door.
“There!” she snapped. “It's open! Happy?”
Salvatore lowered his foot. A look of satisfaction crossed his face. A look that immediately made Mira want to slam the door in his face.
“There she is.”Salvatore smiled,” Stop trying to defile me.”
Mira stared at him. “You are unbelievable.”
“At least you're not calling me a murderer, so it's fine.”
For a second, neither of them spoke. Then his gaze moved over her face.
The anger, the shadows beneath her eyes, and the exhaustion
“Why haven’t you slept?”
Mira folded her arms. “ And whose fault is that?”
She walked away from the door, putting some distance between them.
Salvatore stepped inside and shut the door behind him.
The click echoed through the room.
“I could help you sleep if it’s too hard for you.”
His voice was low, deep, and dangerously calm.
Mira’s breath hitched.
“No, thank you. I’m fine.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips. “You don’t even know what the help is.”
He started walking toward her slowly.
Mira immediately took a step back. “I don’t care.”
He moved closer she took another step. “And I don’t want it.” She hated how unsteady her voice sounded.
Salvatore’s eyes stayed on her face. Watching, studying her every reaction. Then his gaze dropped briefly to her lips before lifting again.
The look alone made her stomach tighten.
He moved closer. Close enough that she could feel the heat coming off him.
“You and I both have trouble sleeping, Mira.”
His voice dropped lower. “We both know neither of us is getting any rest tonight.”
Mira’s heart hammered against her ribs.” Speak for yourself.”
A dark smile appeared on his face.” I am.”
He leaned in slightly…. Just enough to make her breath catch.
“Let me help us forget.”His voice was rougher now.
The words settled heavily between them as he reached for her, his hand closing gently around her wrist and pulling her closer.
Mira’s heart stumbled.
She should have stepped away.
She should have said something.
Instead, she found herself staring at him… At the darkness in his eyes, at the tension in his jaw.
In the way, his gaze dropped to her lips and stayed there.
The room suddenly became hot, “Salvatore…” she whispered.
His eyes lifted to hers again…. Then his hand slid to her waist, holding her, slowly, deliberately, he leaned closer.
Close enough for her to feel his breath. Close enough that every rational thought in her head vanished.
“Mira.”
The way he said her name made her knees weak.
He leaned in, bit her lip softly, then held her gaze, his eyes dark.
“I want to fuck you badly.”
Her breath stuttered the moment the words left his mouth.
Heat rushed up her spine suddenly, like her body had betrayed her faster than her mind could catch up.
For a second, she just stared at him.
Then she shoved him hard.
“Don’t—” Her voice cracked slightly, so she cleared her throat and tried again, sharper this time. “Don’t say things like that to me.”
Salvatore barely moved.
His eyes didn’t even flicker away from her face. “You want me to,” he said calmly.
Mira scoffed, but it came out uneven. “You’re delusional.”
He leaned closer again.
Mira stepped back.
He followed anyway.
“You’re lying,” he murmured, voice low, dangerous in its patience. “You can lie through your mouth, Mira, but your body sells you out.” his gaze shifted to her aroused nipples pushing through her top.
Mira’s pulse jumped. She hated that he could see through her and how her body betrayed her.
“Stop talking about me like you can read me,” she snapped. “I'm just cold.”
Salvatore tilted his head slightly, eyes darkening as they dropped to her mouth again.
“Cold, huh?” he said. “I bet you want me to put my mouth on it.” his eyes were still on her breast.
Mira took another step back until she hit the wall behind her.
His hand came up… resting beside her head, caging her in just enough she couldn't escape him.
“I want you,” he said with a low groan.
Mira’s throat tightened.
“I'll fuck you so bad and watch how you come undone,” he continued, voice rougher now. “I want you looking at me like you want to strangle me”
Her breath caught despite herself.
“I want you in my hands,” he added, leaning closer, “I want you bouncing in my cock and screaming my name. Let me fuck you, Mira!”
His eyes lifted to hers, holding them hostage.
The silence between them snapped tight.
Mira swallowed hard, frustrated and tempted. Her body wanted to do those things to him, but her mind… She shoved him again, weaker this time.
“Get off me,” she said, but it lacked venom now. It sounded breathless.
Salvatore didn’t move far; his eyes stayed on her
Then, quietly, almost cruelly calm, “I could kiss you until you forget your own name. I know you want it.”
Mira swallowed hard.” I don't want...” her word got swallowed as his lips captured hers.
