Chapter 75

P.O.V. Lyall

My mother surprised me again by putting Ebon in front of my room. We hadn't met again, but I was a fucking werewolf and the smell of her was driving me crazy.

What I don't understand is that our bond was broken, I felt it. It was so strong that I passed out and was blacked out for a week, but here I am, crazy just from smelling the scent of my companion, in fact, former companion.

To avoid meeting Ebon and humiliating myself like a dog, as well as Rebeca, who doesn't deserve to be in the news because of me, I went down to dinner ahead of schedule and found my parents sitting at the table, talking animatedly.

I felt an immense desire to have a light and passionate life like the two of them, but from the looks of it, my destiny is going to be sad and lonely.

After a while, Rebeca and John arrived at the table and from the way my fiancée was blushing, she was certainly getting on with her partner, which made me very happy. It was going to be an honor to be able to celebrate their wedding in Valgerd.

John was good and Rebeca was like my own blood.

“Sorry I'm late,” Rebeca said embarrassed.

“Don't worry, we're still waiting for Queen Ebon,” my father said.

“As always, I'm late,” I grumbled and all eyes at the table turned to me.

“What? Did I say something wrong?” I asked, but was silenced by the image that appeared in front of me.

Ebon was walking down the stairs with mesmerizing grace. Her every step was preciously measured. Her straight, shiny black hair flowed down her pale back, creating a dramatic contrast with the blood-colored dress she wore, which perfectly marked her curves, taking with it what little sense I had.

When those deep, intense blue eyes met mine, I realized that they held secrets that I needed to discover.

“Sit down, dear,” my mother signaled to Ebon, who was sitting right in front of me. When did my mother become such an articulate person? And when did these two stop being enemies and become allies?

But those weren't the questions I heard being asked...

“Queen Ebon, I heard your wedding was a success,” my father asked and I was surprised that it had taken him so long to start his questioning.

“I can tell you that yes, it was a success, at least for me, right John?” She returned the question to her friend who nearly choked and just shook his head in agreement as he tried to catch his breath.

“I don't mean to be rude, but we've kind of banned news from your kingdom around here, I hope you understand,” he said with a smile, as if he wasn't being the most rude of beings.

“Don't worry about it, I'm very welcome in your home, it's no problem for me to answer a few questions,” she said looking at me, and I immediately felt embarrassed by the way I reacted when I saw her and ended up being rude and sending her away.

“If the wedding was such a success, why isn't your husband here? I was hoping to have him with us, especially after we learned that he negotiated with mercenary wolves to make it look like Lyall had attacked your kingdom.”

“Father, please. I don't need to prove my innocence... it doesn't matter anymore,” I said to my father, trying to get him to stop.

“I'm sorry, but I don't think this reckoning can take place and I apologize for that in advance,” Ebon said and watching her justify Viktor was painful.

“You don't have to justify yourself to him,” my father finally seemed to want to put an end to the matter.

“Yes, I do, since I killed that bastard at the time of our wedding,” she said and helped herself to a forkful of food, as if she were talking about crushing an insect.

“Ebon... what are you talking about?” I addressed her for the first time after she arrived.

“What didn't you understand? I said that I killed Viktor during our wedding ceremony. Or did you really think I was going to give myself up to that creep?”

I saw my mother's face light up. There had been a lot of unresolved issues between me and Ebon, but that statement left us speechless... she hadn't left me for him, but she had still rejected me for power, for the throne.

I was so confused that I excused myself and left. I needed to run and breathe fresh air. I needed to get my thoughts in order.

When I got home, everyone was already asleep, or so I thought, so I went to my room to take a shower and relax, but as soon as I opened the door, I saw that Ebon was waiting for me, sitting on the bed.

Sitting on my fucking bed!

“So, are we going to talk like adults or are you going to keep pretending I don't exist?” Ebon spoke to me with her usual boldness, which I found very sexy. It was going to be difficult to have any serious conversation with her looking at me like that.

“I'm sweaty, you can wait downstairs and I'll look for you as soon as I've finished showering,” I replied, hoping to get that temptress out of my room.

“You can go and I'll wait for you. After all, you used to hang around my room, so I don't see any problem in doing the same with you,” Ebon teased.

“Back then I wanted to get you into bed, that's why I wouldn't leave your room,” I replied, trying to intimidate her, but I don't think it worked and the spell turned against the sorcerer.

“And who told you I want anything other than that?”

I swallowed, feeling my body tremble, as if that woman could take all my strength.

“I'll be right back, we don't need that much,” I said and got out of Ebon's way as quickly as I could.
