Chapter 50 Anya's Regret
Inside Aleksandr's office, Anya was hiding behind his back.
Her heart thumped like a drum in her ears, a cold sweat sliding off her back.
"Alex, what am I going to do? He's going to kill me, I'm sure of it!" Anya mumbled, her voice a notable panic.
Aleksandr who was amused by her actions because it wasn't everyday he got to see his queen quivering, turned, facing her solemn face that regretted her decision.
"Exactly. He's going to kill you. Why did you even think of pushing her in the pool and leaving her there? Hm?" He was surprised when he caught sight of Anya leaving the pool with a drowning Isabella still inside.
Anya chewed on her lower lips. She wished she could rewind time and stop her actions.
"Anya!" She felt the fine hairs on her skin stand in fear.
Nikolai's imperious tone was bone chilling and she knew he was deadly angry.
Fuck! She had messed up.
Staring back at Aleksandr for help, "I didn't mean to push her. It was an impulsive thought, I didn't stop in time. I caught the silhouette of you two approaching and just dragged her, knowing that Nikolai would save her!" She cried out, her bossy demeanor wavering slightly, "I just wished for them to get closer. They are like cats and mice always fighting and—"
Her tone dropped when she heard, the knob of Aleksandr door twisting, and she felt an impending doom loom over her head.
Aleksandr clicked his tongue in annoyance, "Nikolai has always been spectacular about his things. You had good intentions but the wrong output. Don't worry, he won't harm you." Aleksandr assured her and just then did the knob twist open finally.
A raging man strolled in, his eyes filled with bloodshot anger as he didn't care to acknowledge, Aleksandr and went straight for Anya.
But before he could get to her, Aleksandr, blocked his pact, "What do you think you're doing?" His tone was clipped.
Although, he had distanced himself from the Mafia world that didn't mean that he had lost his quiet authority.
Aleksandr wasn't going to stand and watch Nikolai hurt his woman.
Nikolai flicked his gaze towards, Aleksandr and with an austere tone, he ordered, "Step away!"
Anya who was hiding behind, Aleksandr peek over his shoulders and apologized.
"I'm sorry, Nikolai. I didn't mean to—"
"You didn't mean to, but you did. The damage has been done, Anya. You pushed her into the pool and you left her there!" He averted his gaze and bore them angrily into Anya's frame.
If it wasn't for Aleksandr who was shielding her, he would have torn her throat out from her neck, ignoring the friendly acquaintance they shared.
Aleksandr's jaw ticked, "Don't scream at her."
Nikolai let out a chuckle, "what should I do then? Perhaps I should lay her body right next to you!"
"Nikolai!"
"Aleksandr!"
Their deep growling voices thundered above the roof. And a scared shiver ran through Anya's body.
She cussed herself internally.
They two friends were shouting at each other because of her.
God!
Why was that the only option she could have thought of? Even she wasn't happy with her decision considering that Isabella had told her she couldn't swim.
How was she even going to make up for it?
Then she heard Nikolai's icy tone.
"Fuck you! I shouldn't have come here in the first place where she would be hurt. I'm leaving!"
He spared none of them any glance and stormed away from there.
Aleksandr, felt the stiff air in his study room return into place.
He wasn't happy with Nikolai's decision, since he always spent his days in his mansion whenever he visited but he didn't stop him.
If what it took for him to calm down was leaving then he was fine by it.
He turned, his black eyes catching Anya's shoulder quivering as she sobbed silently.
When her onyx orbs met his, her tears fell more freely, "I really didn't mean to hurt, Isabella... I really... I just wanted—"
Her voice cracked as Aleksandr placed her head on his chest.
"I know but I'm glad you did." He revealed to her.
"What!" Anya's eyes widened in surprise at his words.
"I mean your actions were indeed terrible but at least we got to see that he isn't such a monster that he claims to be. He has feelings for her. I could see it in his eyes, and his actions just now confirmed it. Hmm...you should be glad that you're not a stranger else he would have choked you to death. You need to be careful with your decisions, my queen."
Anya sniffled and pulled away.
"I don't want her to hate me. We bonded so well this past week. I don't want it to just vanish." She whined, the thought of her new found friend that she loved amongst all hating her, made her stomach churn.
.
.
When the sun had successfully dipped into the horizon, Isabella's eyes fluttered open, her brain a bit hazy but after a scene the visions of what transpired between her and Nikolai came rushing down to her brain like a torrent of forbidden ecstasy.
Instantly, she palmed her face and groaned in embarrassment.
How could she...she pass out? It was mortifying to even think about it.
How was she going to face him now?
She inadvertently, bit into the skin of her inner cheeks.
'Whatever. He was the one that made me collapse by doing it more than three times when he had promised to stop at four!' she quipped internally and shrugged her shoulders.
She was unaware of her new attire as her stomach growled for some food and she pushed the sheets aside to stand just to feel a slight pain between her legs.
"Ouch!"She shrieked as she stumbled to the floor, surprised by the sharp pain that shot to her core.
What the fuck!
Her eyes went into bewilderment.
Just then the door opened to reveal Nikolai who rushed in with a weird feeling that punched him right into his guts.
"What happened?" His brows furrowed as he saw his Isa on the floor.
Her golden hair was tousled, falling softly around her features. Her lips parted in awkwardness, jade green eyes wide in stupefaction.
As soon as her eyes met his unfamiliar worried ones she instantly averted her gaze, a familiar feeling she had been trying to stop having during his absence came crashing like an unwanted pest inside her belly.
"I...I—"Her words were incoherent and she shivered when she felt his warm hands caress her cheeks and was about to go over her arms when she moved back.
"What are you doing?"
