Chapter 93 093
Danica’s POV
I had barely taken two steps when I felt a hand wrap around my arm, pulling me back with a force that clearly had me tumbling directly into the assailant's chest.
Finn.
My heart skipped three beats not because this felt thrilling even in the slightest… but because I just almost fucking fall face first into the ground and it was all because of Finn.
Finn. Finn. Finn!!!!
I pushed him off immediately, so hard he hadn't even expected that sort of strength from just one push.
I was heaving, glaring at him and if glares could kill, I swear he'd be buried at the deepest trenches of the surface of the earth.
“What the fuck was that for, Finn? I'm sure we aren't even close enough to have you touching me without my permission… but then you pulled me? Deliberately, so I could fall into your chest like you're a knight in disgusting armor?” I blurted at once, irritation curling tight in the pit of my stomach.
And I don't even know why the fuck I feel so irritated right now. My skin was practically itching in a way that doesn't even require a scratch.
“I didn’t mean to make you lose your balance like that…” he started but I cut him off almost immediately.
“Of course you don't! Why don't you tell me what you actually had in mind then?” I asked, sarcasm dripping like venom.
He took a step closer.
Fool. He just doesn't get it, does he?
I took a step back. And then Killian walked in between us right then.
“I'm sure you do know how to talk within a distance, little man. You don't want Alpha Alexander to smell you on his mate, trust me. Your entire clan would be wiped out before you realize what hit you” Killian mocked, his expression as hard as steel.
Then what Finn did next actually made me see red.
He punched Killian.
I gasped, dashing out from behind his imposing build. “What the hell, Finn? Are you fucking kidding me?” I yelled, pushing him off as hard as I could.
He staggered but not one single remorse was on his face.
I turned to check Killian's face out and there it was, by the corner of his lips. A bust, and a small hint of blood.
Gritting my teeth hard, I turned to face Finn again.
“How dare you hit him, Finn?” My voice was lower this time, in a way that screamed ‘you just messed with the wrong person’
“He had it coming, Danica. He's just a fucking puppet. How dare he threaten me?” He muttered cockily but he certainly didn't anticipate what I did next.
No one did.
I slapped him.
Hard across his face, wiping off that arrogant smirk off his expression. The small scale attention in the coffee shop fell on me but I couldn't possibly give one more shit right now.
He raised his gaze back to mine, shock and something else; maybe hurt? Maybe anger was written all over his eyes.
“What the…”
Another slap cut him off, harder than the first. And the gasps flew around louder.
“Danica!!” he yelled, holding his cheek.
“What? You think you didn't have that coming? Who the fuck are you to look down on him just because he's protecting me?!” I yelled into his face, snatching my arm from Killian when he tried to stop me.
But that was until he winced.
I turned fast, thinking I'd hurt him in the process. But that was only a trick to divert my attention enough for him to pull me out of the coffee shop.
“Let me go, Killian! Who do you think you are, dragging me out just because I defended you?!” I was yelling and he was totally laughing at me.
“Oh, trust me, I like that. I would watch that brewing drama to the end but Alpha wouldn't like that. Not one bit. That timing was just perfect to lead you out. At least only one person's head would be dropping eventually instead of three” he muttered, eyes still glinting with laughter and I pressed my lips into a thin line, trying not to smile like an idiot.
I've never once seen him laugh so heartily before. Just this time and I wished he'd do it more often.
“You should smile a lot more… like today, Killian” I added once he tucked me into the car.
He halted for a second or two, before leaning in, to close in my seat belt.
“A smile doesn't do much when you have a scar this glaring on your face” he muttered, smirking, and probably expecting me to laugh too. But I didn't.
I hadn't meant that as a joke.
“Trust me, if you looked hideous with that scar, I wouldn't ever try to start up a conversation with you in the first place. I'd make it so obvious that you look hideous” I told him and he blinked at me once, trying to figure me out.
“The scars don't make you ugly. It made you stronger. It's… a part of you that you probably wouldn't want to lose…” I trailed off when he scoffed.
“You don't know that”
“Oh, I do. I know that you would have gotten rid of this long ago if you wanted to. You left it this long till it became like this, almost irreversible” I pointed and I watched his throat work up slowly.
“I…”
“Tell me, Scarface. Do you really not know that you're gorgeous even with the scar or are you just trying to make me say it bluntly?” I asked and he literally choked on his breath.
“What?!!!” He exclaimed, eyes wide, and glaring at me like he was about to suffocate.
I burst into a fit of laughter at his expression and he gave me one last shake of his head before slamming the door shut.
He walked around the car and got into the driver's seat while I struggled to stop laughing.
“You're weird, you know that right?” He murmured under his breath and I hummed in response.
‘Even I can't figure myself out these days but I think I might like this me better than anything else'
“I just hope you would never utter that statement in front of the Alpha” he added as he began to drive.
A mischievous glint appeared in my eyes as I imagined how that would turn out to be.
Oh, a total freaking disaster.
“He would be cool with it, Killian. He wouldn't punish me for complimenting his bodyguard” I purred sweetly. Killian gave me the face of a person about to puke.
“That is exactly the point, Princess. I'd be the one getting punished” he almost yelled but I still shrugged, enjoying teasing the hell out of him.
“It's not my fault that you're so fine” I murmured and he growled, making me bark out another laugh.
“No, seriously, you're just too fine to be ignored…”
“Just kill me already!”
