Chapter 32 032

Chapter 32 032
Alexander's POV

"Please, tell me it's good news this time, Blake" I said in exasperation and I watched the corner of his lips twitch. The bastard was about to laugh.

"I mean, why are you in such a hurry? You were never worried how long it took to settle deals across the Pack's borders" Blake responded nonchalantly and I shot him a glare. One slitting enough to tell him I was in no mood for jokes.

"It's already bad enough that I couldn't tell her anything before leaving. I have to go back as soon as I can before her trial ends" I muttered more to myself than to Blake.

"Her? You mean the pretty Doctino?" Blake said, the words sounded more like a realization than a question. He already knew she was the reason I'm in a hurry but he did awfully well feigning ignorance.

"Blake? The update! Or do I have to get it out of you in MY way?" I asked and he immediately cleared his throat, together with all the silly expressions on his face. Then he spoke.

"We still have a hard time building a mutual trust between Alpha Denver and us but the deal was sealed. In my thoughts, I'd say we can't be too convenient and trusting on our way back home or even when we get there." He explained and I practically beamed.

"The deal is sealed and that is what matters. Denver isn't stupid enough to dare ambush me because of the paperwork. Let him try, and he'll be dead in a blink" I said casually and Blake nodded once before handing over the signed documents to me.

"The deal with Woven Peak Pack isn't finalized. Their Luna was asking for too much in return" Blake informed and my jaw ticked impatiently.

She's always been so demanding so I spared her not even a singleton of my time but right now, I might be tempted by what her Pack has to offer.

"And the Alpha?" I asked, wondering what sort of man leaves all the important decisions to be made by his Luna.

"He agrees with his Luna, obviously?" Blake pointed and I chuckled darkly.

"Or, she just has an upper hand in the Pack's decision making whether the Alpha wants it or not?" I wondered aloud and Blake couldn't hide the disgust that crossed his expression.

"That'd be shitty" He whispered and I raked my fingers through my hair in frustration.

"A meeting?" I asked, taking a wild guess of what she might have asked for.

He nodded.

Of course she wanted to meet even after I rejected her requests for the past five years.

"She really doesn't know when to give up, does she?" I mumbled under my breath and Blake nodded plainly.

"Well, her persistence worked this time. Tell her I'd love to meet before the next full moon." I told him and his eyes widened slowly.

"You what?!" He exclaimed and I squinted my eyes at him.

"Does it seem that impossible?" I muttered, eyeing him.

"It did. But not anymore, I guess..." He trailed off before turning to leave.

Halfway to the entrance, he stopped walking and turned to face me again.

"Did this come from the bottom of your calculating mind, Alpha? You know you can't change your mind the moment I send in your response, right?" He asked to be sure and my hands halted over the piles of documents I was signing.

"I'm sure, Blake, now leave before I actually change my mind. We leave in ten minutes" I told him calmly and he smiled nervously before walking out completely.

In one hour, we arrived at the Pack and the first place I thought to visit was the Royal clinic.

But as soon as I stepped into the long hallway that held a pleasant memory, her scent once distant hit me hard.

She wasn't at the clinic. She is close. Really close. I picked up my pace.

When I finally sighted her, rounding out of a corner with her head hung low and tired, relief coursed through my bones.

She didn't get hurt while I was gone. At least not physically.

As I drew closer, she must have felt my presence because she suddenly looked up. As soon as our eyes locked, she stopped walking, her hands tucked in the pockets of her white coat.

Seconds ticked by but instead of the excited look I loved to see on her face, her face was completely emotionless, except the sharp glint blazing in her eyes.

No one needed to tell me I'd messed up really bad.

She continued walking after those torturous seconds of locking gazes.

"Welcome back, Alpha" She muttered flatly with a deep bow. When I didn't respond, she lifted herself and immediately started walking away.

My body reacted before my mind did.

I grabbed her wrist before she walked away completely.

"You shouldn't be doing this, Alpha..."

"Alpha?"

"Yes. Did I say something wrong?" She threw back instantly at the same time, retracting her hand from mine. I didn't stop her.

"I'm sorry, okay?" I blurted before she turned and walked away again.

"For what? I don't think someone like you can ever be wrong, Alpha. You did nothing wrong. Not to me, at least" she replied nonchalantly and I fought back a low growl.

Rage wasn't liking this. And I wasn't either.

It was a test on my patience. The only thing keeping me from flipping right now was because she wasn't just anyone. She is Danica. My mate. The only woman who managed to drag out the word 'sorry' from my lips after many years over a decade.

"You're mad at me." I pointed out bluntly but she shook her head.

"I wouldn't dare" she muttered, avoiding my gaze like her life depended on it.

"You are. You wouldn't even look at me" I pressed and she bit her lips before snapping her gaze to mine.

"I'm looking at you, right now" She said, proving me wrong again.

"Danica, please. I'm sorry, okay? It was an emergency trip. The news got me unaware. I couldn't even tell the other ministers until I got there and my Beta sent a word to them" I explained at once, my chest heaving, hoping she just looked at me without those empty cold eyes.

"Really?" She mumbled under her breath but I heard it.

"Yes. I wouldn't ever hurt you deliberately" I repl
ied and she cleared her throat, keeping her gaze down again, her soft gaze instantly turning harsh.
