Chapter 205 My baby's daddy
♡Leila♡
Oh. Damn.
"Leila, this is Tobit, my other brother...Tobias’s twin."
“Hi, Leila.”
The words landed next to Lia and the world stopped spinning for a second.
What the hell? What the actual hell is going on?
Tobias had a twin?
Why didn’t anyone ever say anything? Not Lia. Not their parents. Not Tobias himself. Not a word. And now—now he’s here, right here, standing in front of me like… like some cruel echo.
I froze, I couldn’t move or even blink. I looked at June. She’s shocked too, but she doesn’t get it. She doesn’t understand or know the story I carry inside me.
Mr. Grande is there, holding her with the same expression, and I just… can’t breathe.
Because my life, my whole damn life, has been this stupid mess:
I got introduced to Tobias by June. I started liking him. We slept together, one night, at his place.
The next day, he asked me out, I said no because I’m scared he only wants me because of that night.
Then I found out he’s dating June. But it turned out was all some plan to make Hermes jealous.
Relieved, I told June my secret that I'm pregnant and June insisted Tobias had to know. But he disappears, he goes camping. His phone doesn't answer.
Then I found out he died... sudden and shocking.
And now I’m stuck with a baby, a note that says I love you, and a family that’s accepted me.
Yeah… that’s my life in a nutshell. A college student buried in history books, juggling part-time jobs just to pay fees, and somehow still making time to take care of my sick mother.
Like life wasn’t hard enough already, now I get this curveball: my baby daddy—gone, dead, out of my reach—has a twin. A twin.
And he’s standing there, looking like Tobias’s ghost, only… different, but familiar. Unnervingly familiar.
Is it the way he moves? The way he is looking at him right now? Or is it the tattoos, the roughness in his voice that Tobias never had?
I don’t know. And honestly… I don’t even know if I want to figure it out yet.
But I can’t stop staring.
Because my life just got a hell of a lot more complicated.
“I’m so sorry, June… Mr. Hermes… for the interruption—” Lia’s voice cuts through my spiraling thoughts.
I watch her grab Tobit, her teeth gritting."Let me just get him—"
“Wait—” June’s voice stops her, sharp and insistent. My head snaps toward her.
She leaves Hermes and moves toward me, her hands gently on my shoulders. “Leila, you need to breathe.”
I realize I haven’t been. Not really. My chest tightens, and I let out a sharp, shaky exhale.
“What’s this, June? Are you seeing what I’m seeing?” I ask, voice trembling.
“Girl, I see it,” Kayla’s voice echoes behind me.
Her voice… it feels unreal, distant, and suddenly the world tilts. My knees buckle. My vision blurs.
“Leila—” June’s voice is the last thing I hear before darkness swallows me.
When my eyes flutter open, I’m not in my apartment. Not the one I share with June and Kayla. I’m in a room assigned to me by Tobias’s parents in their penthouse. I had refused, vehemently, but they had insisted with tears.
I try to push myself up—and freeze. The door opens.
“Oh… she’s awake,” June says, rushing in, still in her wedding gown.
“June…” My voice is hoarse, dry.
She hurries over. “Do you need water?”
I nod, and she hands me a bottle from the bedside. I sip, the cool liquid grounding me.
“Did I faint?” I ask, voice small.
“Yeah,” June says, her voice tight. “You got us so scared. The doctor says you’re fine. Just… need rest. I know you were shocked. I was too. Tobias never told me about this. Not even Lia. She has some explaining to do.”
“Where is she?” I ask, scanning the room. I want answers. Now.
The door opens again. My head snaps toward it.
“Oh, it’s Kayla,” I sigh, annoyed.
“Yes, it’s me,” she gushes, lollipop in hand. “And I must say something—this twin? Hotttt. Did you see his tattoos? He’s got a full sleeve!”
“Kayla, behave,” June snaps, already moving back to her ringing phone.
I turn back to Kayla, impatient. “Where’s Lia? What were they discussing?”
Kayla shrugs, entirely unhelpful. “The whole family is outside, talking to the hot twin. I didn’t hear much.”
"Kayla," June calls again.
I groan softly. “Leave her, June. Kayla…” I turn fully to her. “Seriously, what were they saying?”
She shrugs again, smirking.
June steps back toward us, asking, “Do you want anything to eat?”
I shake my head. “No. But June, you should go. Mr. Grande is calling, isn’t he?”
She nods. “Yes. He sends his greetings—but I’ll stay.”
“C’mon, June, go enjoy your piece of cake. I’ve got Leila,” Kayla chirps.
I give her a half-smile, half-eye roll, "Yes June, you should go."
“Alright,” June exhales, sounding defeated. “But I’ll be back.”
Kayla jumps up. “Hey June, I need to talk to you about a guy I saw with your CEO husband. I heard he’s a doctor—”
Her words fade as she and June leave.
I let out a long, shaky sigh, pushing myself off the bed.
I’m not sitting here waiting for answers. Not anymore. If I’m going to make sense of this, I need to see it with my own eyes.
I slip to the balcony, knowing Tobias’s parents often sit out here to discuss things. The door is slightly ajar. I hesitate, hand on the edge of the frame, and then freeze. Voices.
Mrs. Miller’s voice.
“Tobit, what are you doing? You didn’t even attend your brother’s funeral!”
“Tobit, calm down, love,” Mr. Miller says, gently, trying to console.
Tobit doesn’t answer.
Then Lia’s voice cuts in, sharp and trembling. “Father, mother… he’s saying that Leila is pregnant with his child, not Tobias’s.”
What?!
The words echo in my head. I feel like I just got slapped in the face.
My hands fly to my mouth. Oh my fing God…
Then the other hand instinctively goes to my belly, pressing against the soft swell of my pregnancy.
No… I must be hearing this wrong. I have to be.
