Chapter 49: 49| SEEKING APPROVAL

"Accepted my ring and back to avoiding me like a plague. What's wrong, Fremantle?" Eron questioned as soon as Frema closed the front door of the mansion. She stayed frozen at the spot for some seconds, her guilty bright blue eyes staring back into his contrasting angry gray ones.

"I'm not.. avoiding you. What's making you think that?" She asked him in return when she got a hold of herself, taking off her floral facemask that matched her sleeveless knee-length dress at the same time which she spoke. He rolled his eyes.

"You've gotten better at lying. Should I be getting scared?" He stood at the same spot, not bothering to move an inch. Not that she wanted him to. If he moved any closer, he could easily hear the pounding of her heart, a give away of how much she was lying to him.

"If you wish, but I'm not telling any lies right now, if that makes you feel better. I was out with Riley and she finally managed to get a job for me.." She trailed off when she noticed how much his expression had hardened.

"A job? We're supposed to be planning our wedding, Fremantle. I'm not restricting you from working or anything but you do know we're going to be very busy from now onwards, don't you?" He questioned and she avoided his eyes, fixing her gaze on the cream coloured wall behind him, instead.

She replied, "Yeah, I know. But our wedding's going to need money. I want to be able to help."

He scoffed, obviously annoyed now. "I don't remember asking for your help, woman. I plan to take care of every bill, myself." He informed her and she was the one who grew annoyed this time.

"Yeah, well, thankfully it's 'our' wedding and not yours, alone. I would like to be a part of the expenses too, I'm not a liability." She responded. They went quiet for sometime, both fuming with anger and then he sighed, walking towards her just to take her hand in his and take her with him to his room.

"I'm sorry," she whispered when he pushed the noiseless brown door shut and looked at her. He nodded, pulling her into his jean-clad lap as he sat on the edge of the gigantic bed.

"So tell me, what's wrong?" He questioned and Frema almost rolled her eyes, knowing he'd never let go of the topic.

"Nothing's wrong.." She lied again but he turned her chin, so they were looking into each other's eyes.

"Frema. I know when you're worried, something's definitely not right. I want to know what it is, so I can help." He pleaded and she searched his eyes for a while until her resolve was finally broken by the obvious adoration in his eyes.

"My parents.." she started and watched as his hand slowly fell off her chin. His expression went hard, she knew he was trying to hide how scared he was of her parents' verdict.

"What.. what about them?" He asked with a little stutter which strangely made her heart flip. She had not come across a nervous Eron in the while she had known him and now she might have just met him and she was the reason why he had grown so nervous.

To briefly put him out of his misery, she ran her fingers through his growing beard and replied, "They didn't say anything yet.. But that's because I haven't told them yet. I'm afraid that they might say no, Eron." He looked forlorn and she stared hopelessly at him for what felt like uncomfortable hours. When he did not come up with a reply, she continued,

"I'm not willing to let you go, though. I'm willing to fight for us, Eron. You're not the same man that they once knew.. you've changed in so many ways and I'll convince them of that, trust me.."

"What can I do to help?" He asked immediately, placing a calming kiss to her temple. She grinned at that, taking his left palm in hers.

"We'll figure something out. Love has to win this time."

Love was loosing.

Frema stood before her fuming mother in the living room of her parents' rather small duplex, her both hands tucked behind her back as her gaze stayed focused on the shiny floor.

"I know I'm not the best mother. I know that all too well, I mean, I'm a killer.. your fiance made sure you knew that. But must you rub it in so much? Marrying the same man that ruined our family?" She questioned, her voice tired and disappointed. Frema looked up at her mother then, feeling her heart squeeze at the hurt she found in her eyes.

"Stop saying this, mom. We've gotten over that phase of our life. Let's just forgive everyone involved and move on, I know we can do it." Frema pleaded weakly. The older woman's expression was a mix of anger and hurt now. She sighed deeply and lowered herself onto the L-shaped cushion underneath her. Frema followed suit, shifting closer to her. "I love him, mom," she continued. "Please, just forgive him and let me marry him."

"No. You do not have my blessings, Frema. I don't want to even imagine what your father would say if he hears if this." Heather's voice was almost inaudible as she stared into her daughter's blue eyes.

"Which was why I came to you first, because I thought you'd be supportive of your only daughter and help me beg my father's forgiveness. Please, mom." Frema ended her plea as sweetly as she could.

"I can't. Eron Castile would never be welcome to this family. He's not the man for you." Heather informed her. Frema huffed in annoyance, shifting away from her.

"You can't tell me who's the one for me, mom. No one did that for you and dad, you both got married because you love each other. Why can't I have that too? Everyone's complete, having a cute family and all that stuff but I can't. I have to be told who to marry and who not to." Frema ranted now, her voice thundering in the quiet room.

"The only exception is Eron Castile, baby." Heather reminded her.

"Well, I want no one else but him, as my husband. I want to spend the rest of my life with him." Frema maintained. A voice from the front door startled both women,

"With who?"
