Chapter 167 NO CALLS
Chapter 167 NO CALLS
LEO
Weeks later, Sienna and I had become inseparable. We talk, laugh and crack jokes about our past.
“What an inseparable pair we are,” she had said with a smile.
I couldn't go a single day without hearing her voice.
The first thing I did every morning was check my phone for her message and calls.
The last thing I did before sleeping was text her goodnight.
Somehow, we had become part of each other’s existence. This is far more than commitment.
She was me, and I was her. Which was why her sudden silence terrified me.
Yesterday, she didn't call.
That was entirely unusual. Sometimes she got busy with her training in the office or family but she had never missed a day without calling. So I waited.Patiently.Silently.
Convincing myself she would call the next day.But she didn't.
Then, I took the bold step to call but the phone was unreadable. No answer.
I texted too but there was no response.
Hours passed, turning into day.
One day…two days…three days.
And before I knew it, one entire week had slipped by.
One week… seven whole painful days and sleepless nights.
I checked my phone constantly those seven days without skipping a day. Something felt wrong and usual about her silence.
Everything about it felt wrong.
That Saturday evening, I stood beside the pool that afternoon, staring down at my reflection from the water.
Sienna wouldn't just disappear without saying something.
The last time we spoke, she had told me that Alex had returned to Texas and that he had completely refused taking her calls for days.
So, Alex is not even the problem here. What then could have gone wrong?
I pulled out my phone and dialed her number for what felt like the hundredth time. Who knows? I might get lucky this time around.
I called but there was still no response.
My jaw tightened. "Damn it, Sienna."
I ran a frustrated hand through my hair.
What was going on?Was she okay?Has something happened?
The questions were driving me insane even as they kept ringing in my head.
Finally, I decided to call the only person who might know something.
Alex.
I'm sure he would surely have an answer to my questions.
The phone rang and then he answered.
"Why are you calling me?”His cold voice struck from the phone.
I sighed but was glad he answered.
"It's nice to hear from you, Alex” I said calmly but disturbed.
"What do you want, Leo? You already have my sister so what do you want from me now?" He was furious.
I ignored his attitude.
"Yeah, that's why I called. Have you spoken to Sienna?"
A dangerous silence filled the phone. Then, Alex spoke again.
" I don't have an idea what you're talking about. You're still talking to my sister, right?"
I closed my eyes “Alex—"
"No. Answer my question." He cut me off angrily.
"Yes. We spoke a few ago” I answered.
He laughed coldly."You never learn, do you?"
"Can we not do this today?" I tried to calm the situation.
"No, let's do this today." He debated. “ I warned you."
I could practically hear the irritation in his voice but I wasn't ready for his troubles.
"Alex." I called softly again."Where is Sienna?"
His anger grew more but he said nothing.
"Alex, talk to me." I said commandingly this time around.
When he finally spoke, his voice sounded completely different.
Too serious.
" Dad found out about you two ago. Hope you're fine with this information”
For a moment, I froze. Every muscle in my body began to ache and the world around me seemed to disappear.
"What are you talking about, Alex?” I said again as though I didn't hear Alex for the first time.
"He knows. Dad knows everything now” Alex said again, his voice cold.
"No, that's impossible." I debated.
"Why? You don't want your friend to find out about your relationship with his daughter? That's being sneaky, Leo” he gave a humorousless laugh.
A thousand thoughts exploded filled my head and for a moment, I forgot totally that I was with Alex on his phone.
"What happened?" I asked quietly.
"You ask what happened? Do you even have a conscience?” his anger grew.
“ I love her, Alex. Don't you understand
"Oh, you do?” He laughed wickedly. “Well, dad forced her to cut ties with you or lose her family and inheritance"
My heart stopped breathing.Everything inside me went numb.
"No. Cruz can't do that” I said, frustrated.
"What do you mean, Leo? Dad did the best thing. You want to destroy her life and I'm glad she chose her inheritance and family instead of you” Alex's voice was filled with scorn.
His words struck harder than anything else.I stared blankly at the water before me, unable to process what I was hearing.Unable to accept it.
“ Sienna wouldn't choose inheritance over what we share” I kept arguing about it.
Alex laughed bitterly. "Wake up, Leo. Thankfully, Dad has taken her phone."
"What?" I exclaimed.
"He took everything. That's good.” Alex said.
The anger inside me exploded instantly.
"He can't do that."
"He already did.Because she'll get into more trouble." Alex said.
I clenched my jaw."This is insane."
“I love how genuinely helpless you are in this situation. This makes sense, “ Alex giggled.
He loves the restrictions. The pain I'm going through because of his sister.
For several seconds, neither of us spoke.
The only sound was the soft breeze moving across the pool.
Deep down I knew he was right.Cruz didn't want his daughter shattered like the last time that's why he chose to restrict her.
There was nothing I could do about it. I was totally helpless just as Alex had admitted.
I can't fight Cruz.I can't fly from here to New York because of my sister. Who would watch over her?
Right now, I couldn't magically make this situation disappear or even solve it.
“ Good luck with everyone!” Alex laughed at how miserable I was and the call ended shortly afterward.
But long after the screen went dark, I remained standing beside the pool.
Staring into the water.
Thinking about her.Missing her and wondering if somewhere on the other side of town, Sienna was staring at me from New York just as I was staring at her.
