Chapter 10: Obnoxious Henry
Allen was aware of Yakadi Jewelry Company, the most prominent jewelry company in Rock City, and he didn't expect Jerome to hold 15% of the shares.
"Henry, you won't be rampant for long. Today, I'll get back everything I've lost!" Jerome's face was unpleasant.
It was also the first time Allen had seen such a dull expression on Jerome's face, which made him curious about Henry's identity.
Henry didn't take Jerome's words to heart, except that he still developed a twinge of curiosity when he saw Allen. "And who is this guy? Did you hire help?"
"He's the gambling expert I hired! Just wait until you lose clean today!" Jerome gave Henry a vicious glare before pulling Allen away.
"Who is this guy?" Allen asked.
"That's Henry Taber. His dad and mine have always been rivals, so we don’t get along. But the worst part is that the Tabers are all about playing dirty. That speckled snake from last night? He’s one of Taber’s guys." Jerome filled Allen in on the bad blood between the families.
Allen's thoughts drifted elsewhere: "Jerome was trying to bully Taber's men after his loss at Henry's place, but he never anticipated losing at the other casino. This guy has terrible luck." Allen mentally sputtered. He heard Jerome snort again.
"Hey Moses, you're even prettier!" Jerome opened his arms toward a beautiful woman.
Allen was overwhelmed at the sight of Moses. Moses had partially black hair, skin as white as a pearl on the beach, and a silk shirt with long sleeves and black shorts on the bottom. Her legs were long and straight, and she would have been very popular if she had walked the runway.
Moses Barbara took a step back when she saw Jerome approaching, which caused Jerome's hug to pounce.
"Jerome, you shouldn't keep betting with Henry. You've already lost a lot," Moses said with a frown.
Jerome spread his hands out casually and said, "It's okay. I've brought in help, and I'm sure I can teach this Henry guy a lesson."
Moses immediately shifted his eyes toward Allen, who politely nodded toward Moses.
Moses walked up to Allen and said, "If you're a liar, you better get out of here right now, or there won't be a place for you in all of Rock City."
Allen shrugged, "Thanks for the heads up, Ms. Moses, but I'm still a little confident in my gambling skills."
Moses looked at Allen coldly before turning to Jerome and warning, "If you still lose this time, I'll just have to tell your father about it."
"Hey, you can't do that. The old man will ground me!" Jerome tried to approach Moses to argue, but Moses stepped away.
"Who is she? It looks like you're kind of scared of her," Allen asked Jerome curiously as he stared at Moses' back.
Jerome sighed, "Her name is Moses. Barbara should be considered my cousin."
"You're supposed to win, right?" Jerome asked again.
Allen shrugged, "I suppose so ...... Lady Luck is on good terms with me."
Jerome's face was a little bitter, and he could only pin all his hopes on Allen.
As time passed, more and more people attended the party, and soon the much-anticipated betting began.
Under Jerome's introduction, Allen met quite a few young 'tycoons' like him; his status was instead the lowest on the scene, and if Jerome hadn't brought him in, he wouldn't even have the qualifications to enter the gate.
"If only I were that rich." Allen sighed and stepped up to the table under Jerome's expectant gaze.
The first game was the dice that Allen was most familiar with, except that the stakes were antiques and shares instead of chips. Only the names of some companies and antiques did not interest Allen.
All items were placed in a special betting area, and those involved used signage to place their bets.
The most unusual bet was Jerome's, a check for $20 million, which was also the tackiest.
Soon, the dice cup fell to the table, and the crowd began to place their bets.
Just as Allen was about to unleash his penetrating eyes, a very annoying voice rang out.
"Jerome, are you so poor that you only have money left? Or else bet with the shares of your father's company." Henry looked at Jerome with a shadowy gaze.
"Henry, do you think you're going to win!" Jerome questioned in a cold voice.
Henry shrugged, pointed at Allen, and laughed at Jerome: "Are you going to rely on this guy to flip you? Look at that. He threw your check on 13. He doesn't look too smart for that."
Henry said and laughed out loud, and those in the same camp as Henry laughed along with him.
Jerome's eyes were on the verge of spewing fire, and Moses, on the sidelines, looked at Allen and the already-placed check and shook his head helplessly.
"The dice cup hasn't even been opened yet. What makes you think I'm going to lose?" Allen asked as he suddenly turned to look at Henry.
