Chapter 124 Walking Down the Aisle
Chapter 124 Walking Down the Aisle
As soon as Nathan got out of the car, James turned to her and noticed a small look of sadness, but it was her decision.
“Are you really okay with this? Are you sure you want to walk in alone on your wedding day?” James asked.
“Just because we share the same blood doesn’t mean he’s really my father… All these years I tried to earn his love and affection, but I failed miserably. Tell me, Uncle, what kind of father wishes for his own daughter’s death and ruin? What kind of father is happy at the thought of his daughter being beaten by her husband? Nathan Wolf was never truly my father.”
“I agree with you, but I’m afraid of how you’ll feel later.”
“I’m a Larson, and Larson women are not weak. I’ll be just fine,” Elizabeth said and smiled.
“Congratulations! You finally understood that,” James said, feeling proud of the woman Elizabeth had become. He had taught her the value of the Larson name, and now Elizabeth was behaving like one.
Elizabeth looked at him. Her affection for James was immense. She had waited for that moment to make the invitation.
“Uncle, would you walk me down the aisle? Would you take me to the altar?”
“What?” James was genuinely surprised. He hadn’t expected to take on the role of father at Elizabeth’s wedding. “You planned this, didn’t you?”
Elizabeth nodded. From the beginning, she had wanted James by her side at that moment.
“Uncle, you took care of me even before my mother died. We don’t share the same blood, but you acted like my father should have in every phase of my life. You fought my battles, cried over my sorrows, and laughed with my happiness… How could I possibly want anyone else at that moment?”
James got out of the car and helped her out. He kissed her forehead like in the movies. He would play the role of father very well, even if only for one night.
The music began to play and James offered her his arm. They entered smiling. Jonathan loved the scene. At their ceremony, only those who truly wanted the couple’s happiness were participating. Lays smiled broadly and scolded herself for having thought badly of Elizabeth.
James glanced sideways at Nathan and saw him burning with rage at that moment, but he felt victorious. He knew Nathan couldn’t do anything against Elizabeth.
As soon as they reached the altar, Jonathan kissed Elizabeth’s forehead and shook James’s hand. He pulled his uncle into a hug and whispered a thank you in his ear.
Once they were in position, Jonathan looked at Elizabeth and smiled.
“You look like a true princess, my beauty… And thank you for the surprise.”
They exchanged passionate vows and the rings. Jonathan pulled her close when given permission to kiss the bride.
During the reception, everyone praised the couple. They danced passionately and ate together. All the while, Nathan watched Elizabeth furiously. He couldn’t believe his daughter’s boldness. He judged her act as premeditated, but he also had no good intentions. Nathan had thought Elizabeth would feel humiliated if her father didn’t walk her down the aisle. He hadn’t imagined that James would do it with pleasure.
“Are you going to do something?”
“Not yet…”
“You didn’t count on this, did you?” Dave asked beside him. He was calm, enjoying the party. “Don’t wait for me. I’m not going home tonight.”
“Where are you going?” Nathan asked.
“To bed with that brunette over there…” Dave replied, pointing with his glass.
“Be careful. You know I have bigger plans for you.”
“Dad, I’m already past thirty. When that rich daughter of the boss you keep talking about shows up, call me. I’ll do with her what I’m going to do with that girl tonight.”
Nathan took advantage of a moment when Jonathan went to speak with other guests and approached Elizabeth.
“So your intention was to humiliate me? You did this on purpose.”
“No, Dad. I really did plan this, but not to humiliate you. I just didn’t want anyone upset or with a sour face beside me. I know you think all of this is nonsense, so I released you from it. You stayed because you wanted to!”
Elizabeth intended to leave, but Nathan grabbed her arm.
“Look here, you bastard. Do you think this is going to end like this? Do you think I’ll let this offense slide?”
“Threatening my wife, Wolf?” Jonathan said as he approached.
“Your wife humiliated me today. That act was not part of our agreement…”
“No, it wasn’t. But I take care of her…”
Nathan smiled at the thought. In recent years, Jonathan had remained quieter and more reserved about his marriage. At times, he could say what he wanted from Elizabeth with just a look. Jonathan continued to be an affectionate and gentle husband to Elizabeth, but the years of acting had also given him years of peace.
After the party, Jonathan took Elizabeth home. They would only leave the next day to begin their honeymoon.
He arrived carrying her in his arms. Elizabeth was laughing constantly and clinging to Jonathan, her face buried in his chest.
“Elizabeth, how much did you drink today?” Jonathan asked as he placed her on the sofa.
“I’ve heard that question years ago. You know the answer… I don’t drink, my husband! I drank juice… Those colorful juices were great!”
Elizabeth laughed as she spoke.
“You’re drunk, Elizabeth!” Jonathan said and laughed too. He had never imagined seeing Elizabeth lose control. She had no idea about the alcohol content of what she was drinking. He had always thought she would never end up in that state. Elizabeth still had the habit of smelling things before tasting them. She probably hadn’t smelled the alcohol and thought she had been drinking juice all night.
“Come on, my beauty. I’ll give you a bath…”
Jonathan took her to the bedroom and turned on the bathtub. He left it filling while he removed Elizabeth’s dress.
He carried her in his arms and placed her in the warm water. Elizabeth was almost asleep, tired and made even sleepier by the effect of the alcohol.
When he took her out, Elizabeth was sleeping wrapped in the robe. Jonathan took a quick shower and lay down holding her.
The next day, Elizabeth woke up with a headache. She remembered everything she had done, but she didn’t like the hangover feeling at all.
“Good morning, my beauty. Did you sleep well?”
“Good morning, Jonathan… I slept well… I’m just a wreck today.”
“In all these years, it’s the first time I’ve seen you drunk. I confess I found it funny.”
They laughed about the situation. Jonathan got up and brought her a painkiller and strong coffee. They would leave shortly after. Jonathan got ready and asked Elizabeth to do the same. She went reluctantly, thinking it didn’t make sense to leave home right after getting married.
“Jonathan, I don’t want to visit anyone today. I want to spend my day in bed with you!”
“Relax, you’ll like it!”
They got into the car and Elizabeth noticed the suitcase in the back seat. She looked at him questioningly.
“Wedding gift from Uncle James. We’re going to spend a week at the beach in Miami. We’ll have our honeymoon.”
