Epilogue
Epilogue
SEVEN MONTHS LATER
Avery and Dario had finally moved and settled down in a little house there in Switzerland. Avery wanted something that felt like home, and even if the cottage was too small for their day-to -day lives together, Dario somehow made it work.
They pulled down the cottage, leaving some important parts, for example the wooden pillar where Dario's height was marked since he was a child. In that same spot where the cottage was, they built a little mansion, equipping it with all the wonderful things Avery loved and everything that they were ever going to need, and they permanently moved there.
Dario had even taken a huge break off mafia lifestyle. They'd begun planning their wedding and it was going to be happening in a few more months.
“Hey you.” Carl said as he spoke to Avery over video call.
“What's up now, Carl? What other great thing do you want to add to the list now?” She asked with a smile.
Carl and Abigail had been treating this wedding like their lives depended on it. Even Abigail's nephews had taken it upon themselves to invite all their friends and make it the “littest party in history”, and Avery was so excited about that. She might act like she was tired of everything that was going on, but deep down she was very grateful for everything and everyone she had. She was surrounded with love and even if she felt everyday like it was a dream, it still didn't stop.
“It's just the cake. Instead of just a plain white cake, how about we have something vintage?”
“Carl, you know….”
“No. Hear me out.” He cut her off. “Just imagine that cake with like pastel pink roses, and sketches of vines on it and all that. It'll go perfectly with the theme and yes, I know that Dario wants something plain, but I also know that you can convince him otherwise.”
Avery heaved a sigh. “Fine. Accepted.”
“Yayyy. Thank you, bye.” He squealed and hung up.
“Really? That's all he called me for?” Avery shook her head as she headed up to her room.
For some reason, she'd been feeling tired all day, but she felt like it was all the stress of the past few days that was getting to her now. Deciding that a nap would solve everything, she went back up.
\~~~~~
Dario had been out, meeting with some people over the wedding preparations and making sure that everything was going according to plan. They were getting everything ready very early because they wanted to make sure that everything went perfectly on D-Day, but now he was finally back home ready to get some rest.
He went up to the room, to find Avery passed out on the bed, earning a huge smile from him. He knew she was probably tired now after everything they'd been doing this past few weeks. They were either planning, working or fucking and even if the last one was pleasing as hell and was exciting to think about, it was still extremely tiring.
Dario walked to the bed and gave her a kiss before going to have his bath, so that he could join her on the bed.
Five hours passed, and Dario had woken up long ago, but Avery had not yet woken up. Dario was worried, but after thinking about it for a long time, he let her rest.
\~~~~~
Avery woke up with the worst headache in existence. She felt like she had been pounded on the head with a sledge hammer.
She tried to call for Dario, but even her own voice sounded too loud. On second thought, she decided to stagger out to the living room with the whole dizziness and lightheadedness to go look for him.
Each step felt like she was drowning. It got more difficult to breathe, to stand, to do anything. She knew she was going to pass out, but she wanted to find Dario first because she was still on the stairs.
“Is that you, my little vesper?” Dario rushed to the stairs after hearing a loud noise.
He ran just in time to catch Avery from falling down the stairs, looking at her water bottle — which had probably been the loud noise he heard — roll down the stairs.
“Avery, what's going on? Wake up.” Dario called as he shook her.
She wasn't even stirring.
Dario shivered as he looked around, his mind racing with thoughts of what to do. He was so scared.
He got Madame Fiona on the phone and even if she wasn't around, she sent one of the best doctors over there to come to his house and see what was going on with Avery.
\~~~~~
Avery was lying on the couch with her head propped up on a pillow, a young female doctor with black hair slicked back in a ponytail, huge glasses and a very bright smile propped over her going through some tests.
Dario had no idea why she was smiling, because his heart was going a whole one hundred miles per hour as he was seated there.
“She's fine. It's just the stress getting to her.” She smiled as she sat back.
Avery stirred then, her eyes opening as she put her hand above her head trying to adjust to the light.
“Dario, what's going on?” She asked, confused at the beaming woman in a white doctor's coat beside her.
“You passed out. Madame Fiona gave me the contact of this doctor and asked her to come check on you. Her name is Doctor Maya.”
“Hi, doctor Maya.” Avery offered a tired smile that warmed Dario's heart. He never knew a human was capable of so much love and happiness, but that was until he met Avery.
“Hi mama.” She smiled back.
“What's wrong with me?” Avery tried sitting up.
“Nothing, really.” Maya replied as she helped to get Avery up. “You're just putting a little too much stress on yourself, and seeing your condition and how early on you are, I'll suggest you tone it down a lot.”
Dario and Avery just stared at her in confusion and complete loss for words.
“Condition? What condition?” Avery asked as she glanced at Dario who to her surprise, looked just as confused as her.
The doctor looked between both of them in confusion and then it hit her. They didn't know.
“You guys don't know?” She asked to be sure.
“Know what?” Dario asked again, slowly getting annoyed and running out of patience.
“You're pregnant. That's why I called you mama. You're slightly over eight weeks in and you have no idea?”
Avery and Dario were frozen, but in a second, Dario jumped up whooping in excitement.
Avery just smiled. She was excited but she was frozen in shock.
She had a child growing in her belly and she had no idea.
\~~~~~
It was bedtime but Dario and Avery had placed a group video call to their friends and were telling them of the good news.
“No way. Well, I'm going to be an uncle, how about that? I'm going to be the best uncle.” Carl squealed.
“You wish.” Vince growled as Abigail and every other person started laughing.
“Does that mean that the wedding will be put on hold?” Abigail asked.
Avery paused because she really didn't know how to answer the question. She had not thought about it.
“No. It will still happen.” Dario said and everyone agreed.
They finally went to bed, one thing in both their minds.
Life had taken a huge turn for them and they could never be more grateful for it.
