Chapter 89 Alpha kael
Alpha Kael
Milo pov
My heart didn't stop hammering until I reached the pack hospital, which was as usual filled with patients who were still infected with the disease.
My mood immediately went sour. Seeing people suffering and queuing in line just to get a chance of survival with the little blood that was available almost made me want to vomit.
My chest tightened. If there was a way to speed up the process, I would definitely choose to do that, but as of right now, the whole people depend on my blood to survive.
Tugging my coat closer, I walked straight to Daphne's room. Immediately I entered the smell of faint herbs and disinfectants tickling my nose.
I scrunched up my nose in irritation, but it disappeared when I saw Daphne's bright smile that resembled fresh air in the midst of the stale hospital surrounding.
“Milo” her eyes lit up seeing me. She was propped up on pillows, from her body posture and the nurse that was waiting with a wheelchair, she was about to stand up.
K took a deep breath of relief I didn't know I was holding.
“Where are you going Daphne?” I asked, running to help her on the seat.
“I wanted to have fresh air, different from this stinking hospital,” Daphne's smile calmed my troubled heart to some extent.
We reached the small garden outside the pack hospital, going to a more quiet place free from the bustle of people. The flowers that were overgrown had been trimmed, and the garden was a little Alice, better than I remembered the last time I was here, with the little girl who would sit with me and keep me company. Guilt rose to my throat.
“The little girl survived.” Daphne sensing my mood, said with a smile. She had a blanket draped over her shoulders, and her cheeks were a little pale and sunken a little, but her eyes were as sharp as I remembered, still fighting even in her condition.
“And James…” I asked, unconsciously holding my breath.
“He is responding well, you don't need to worry Milo, your blood saved us.”
My chest freed for once since today, like a heavy weight was removed from my shoulders. I nodded at her in gratitude, unable to say anything as we sat in silence enjoying the scenery.
“You shouldn’t be out here,” I muttered finally, watching the way her hands trembled as she adjusted the blanket.
She gave me a weak knowing smile. “And you shouldn’t be sneaking around behind Damon’s back. Don't push him dear…”
“Speaking of that, he allowed me to come and see you.” I broke to her, seeing the way her eyebrows flickered in surprise.
“Finally he had started to crawl out of his hole, he dug for himself.” she muttered ,almost to herself, but my sharp hearing picked it up.
The promise that was tucked in my pocket felt like a heavy weight. I swallowed whatever I wanted to say, I couldn't bear to let something as trivial as my personal problem spoil Daphne's mood.
“You should be happy and celebrating that you are no longer bound to that Palace, but here you are, frowning your face. And biting your lips… tell me the problem.”
“It's fine, it's just a little…”
I trailed off, watching Daphne's smiling face morph into a little frown. She leaned closer
“Don't tell me, you allow selene to get under your skin. That bitch is not worth your thoughts.”
My throat tightened, “What!... how did you know?”
I winced at being caught red handed. I let out a laugh under my breath, not surprised that she easily saw through me in a stretch. She always had a way of getting me to open up. I guess that was how she got me to trust her.
Her body shook from laughter, which turned to a round of intense coughing and wheezing for a while.
“This hospital has ears.” She said after she calmed down. “ Here News flies faster than the actual healing, Besides, everyone knows the black sheep, Damon’s sister. She is hated almost as much as she is feared.”
I came closer, propping my hand on my chin, “Tell me more, Daphne, About Selene and About Damon… Please.”
She kept quiet, studying my face to get any information I was not willing to give for a long moment before she continued. “Damons mother died when at a very young age, leaving the elder sister with little damon alone with their father who was a wicked ruthless alpha. Even to his own children.”
Daphne paused for a while, before she continued “Selene ran away from home when Damon was still a pup, leaving little Damon alone to fend for himself. The real truth of why she had to run away, is a mystery and still remains a mystery. But some rumours say that she fell in love with a righteous beta in a foreign land. Knowing well that her father would never accept the union, she eloped with her mate. While another story said that she was born a rebel, and not willing to be controlled, she left home, leaving young Damon in the mercy of their ruthless and wicked father. And even When he died, she never came back, Not even for her brother, and till today, have been Damon's grudge and hatred for her.”
I swallowed hard, genuinely shocked at the real story of Damon's childhood. A path of me wanted to gloat over his misfortune he faced while growing up, while a little soft part of me sympathised with him, knowing the feeling too well of having parents that didn't care if you existed or not… i shook my head to clear my mind that was already derailing
“H…how did he die?”
Her eyes darkened. “The council… They banded together with a group of Unrighteous mafia packs, those that were close to Damon's father. To stop the prophecy.”
My chest seized, hearing that same word.
“What prophecy?”
