Chapter 71 I will do it
I will do it
Milo’s POV
The room was quiet, maybe a little too quiet that it turned the air into a depressing atmosphere.
I sat on the edge of the bed, my eyes transfixed on the closed door like it might open on its own if I willed it hard enough. But no matter how I wished for the door to open and master to stride through it. None of it happened.
My fingers twisted in the blanket restlessly. It's been hours since we came back to his room…masters room. And as soon as he had dropped me, he vanished.
“Don't move from here.” Those were the only last words of master that were filled with barely contained rage. And his anger was justified. I didn’t know what would have happened if my master had not appeared to save me from the trap… trap I comfortably fell for.
But that was not what shocked me to my core. It was what the commanders said. From their tone, they already know something about me that i dont know off. And judging from masters body language, he looked like he knew too.
The thought made my chest burn with anxiety. I hated being left in the dark, like I was some fragile little omega that couldn’t handle the truth.
I jerked up in surprise as the door burst open.
“Daphne” I breathed out, relieved as she stepped inside. Her soft and calming presence washed over me like a cool breeze. But one look at her face dampened my mood immediately.
always, but her face is looking haggard and filled with exhaustion. Her once sharp eyes were clouded and sagged.
“Thank goodness you are okay.” Her voice was filled with happiness and relief. She came closer, her trembling hands almost scared to touch me. Her exhausted and flushed face curled up into a weak smile as she rushed towards me with a concerned expression.
“You look terrible” I gave a tight smile that didn’t reach my eyes.
But it shattered when she broke down in tears in front of me. “I heard the news… for a second. I thought that we had lost you.”
I froze. My chest tightened, seeing her break down like that. “Hey… hey, it’s not your fault…”
“It's my fault something like this happened. I could have followed you…”
“Don't beat yourself up, Daphne. You were very busy attending to patients. There's nothing you could have done.” I tried to console her that I was okay. Even showing her my skin.
“You don't understand Milo.” She replied, her voice filled with emotion. “my actions indirectly put you in danger. The commanders wouldn't have known anything if you had not gone out alone in the night. And now the news is spreading throughout the whole pack. The pack members are becoming restless as time goes on. My actions exposed you, and because of that, everyone is talking about what happened. About you…”
Her words sent chills down my spine.
“About me?...” I cut her off, my brows knitting together in confusion. “What are they saying about me?”
She bit her lip, her eyes widening as if she had said what she was not supposed to say.
Her silence broke something inside me, something that had been building up for years inside me. And without meaning it, I snapped.
“ Why is everybody keeping secrets from me? Everyone’s been doing it…Master, the commanders, now you of all people. I trusted you. Do you have any idea how it feels to be cast aside like I am nothing? Do you know how it feels to be helpless even to the extent of not having control over your life.” I felt hot tears burn my eyes, threatening to overflow, but I fought to hold it back. I clenched my trembling hands into fists. “ I am sick and tired of everyone reminding me that I have no control over my life. Not even from you…”
The tears I have been trying to hold back, finally broke through like water rushing out from a dam.
Daphne looked at me, wide-eyed, with guilt plastered across her face. “Milo…”
“Tell me, Daphne,” I pressed, holding her hands tightly, as anger and desperation boiled inside my chest. “Tell me what they are hiding from me? Is it James?...”
“Noo. James is stable. He is okay for now.” She assured, her eyes still not meeting mine.
“And master? Where did he go?” The question I have been trying to ask escaped my lips.
She gave me a small, tired smile. “He is busy with the elders and commanders. They’re… debating with him.”
“About me…?” I asked.
“Noo”
“I heard everything, Daphne. I healed the little boy that was infected in the woods. And I know that the commanders and elders are fighting with master for my blood. According to them, I am some breed of wolf, and my blood is the cure we have been looking for.” I looked at her face that was ashen and even paler than before.
Daphne looked down. That was enough of an answer. My fists clenched. Just like I suspected.
“I will do it,” I said suddenly.
“What!” her head snapped up, her eyes widening.
“I will give them my blood.” I repeated, my voice firmer. “I am not a child, Daphne. I heard everything. If there is a way. If there is anything at all I can do to save people, I will do it.”
“No, Milo.” She shook her head hysterically, coming closer. “You don’t understand what you’re saying. It's is not as easy as it seems. You can't allow whatever they say or influence your thoughts. You have been through enough already. Don’t throw yourself into a fire,You can’t survive.”
“I am not afraid of fire,” I muttered fiercely, stomping my feet on the ground.
She opened her mouth, ready to argue, but I beat her to it.
“I might be a weak omega or an abomination, but there is something I am not... a coward.”
“You think you are just an omega. She replied with a hard expression. “It would have been better, but noo, you are something worse. Something that they fear. You are…”
She paused, her face paled, a tremor ran through her body.
“Daphne?” Alarm flooded my chest. “What’s wrong?”
She staggered, one hand clutching her side as if to hold herself together. Then, before I could reach her, she collapsed.
“Daphne!”
I dropped to the floor beside her, holding her body that continued to spasm uncontrollably. Her skin burned against my skin, too hot to be anything normal, turning feverish yellow at the instant.
“No…noo” My voice was a whisper.
Her eyes fluttered open, meeting mine, for a moment.
And in that moment…
I saw it.
The knowing look of horror and fear on her eyes.
Lior that continued to whimper deep within me,
my heart stopped. I didn’t need a soothsayer to know what she had been hiding all this time.
