Chapter 43 : The attack
Chapter 38: the attack
Damon’s POV
The thick smell of iron blood hung in the air like a shadow. all around the ground were littered corpses of different shapes and states.
Almost all of them had one or two limbs missing from their main body.
They had come unexpectedly. a surprise and coordinated attack. They came through the northern and southern watch lines at once. They managed to break through the shield and the archery units, before pouring into my pack. But that was the further they could go, before other melee units met them head on.
Two packs. Two entire so-called righteous packs had launched a coordinated ambush attack on us.
Who the fuck lays ambush nowadays.
“Pussies” I grunted, “Only a traitor could have given them such an Intel.”
“The reaper” My sword dripped with blood. From the hilt down to the tip with a sizzling sound like it was enjoying the blood on its body.
“diieeee”
a loud shout came from my back. In one smooth movement, I barely moved my upper back to the side, immediately a swooshing sound of the sharp blade cutting through air rang in my ears.
“Fool, you have already announced your death.” I scowled in disgust, before I dipped low, and turned, slashing my sword in an arc way.
“Ahhhhhhh” a shrill scream of pain rang through the air. With a thud the man fell on his bleeding knee. Snort and tears falling from his eyes.
“Tell me who sent you?” I paused for a moment to ask him a losing question that I know would end up the same.
“You will burn for your sins. You devil” the man screamed.
“When you get to hell, greet the devil for me.” I raised my sword, to give the finishing blow…
“My king” Commander barks appeared out of nowhere, his state worse than mine. His eyes twinkled as he scanned the corpse that laid on the ground. “We have rounded them up. The alphas have been captured.”
His news made me pause, I suddenly lost interest in those pathetic fellows. I put away my sword, then nodded at James.
“Good, lead the way”
“What about?…” he pointed at the man that was already a distance away running for his dear life.
“My units will finish…”
As I was saying, a poo sound echoed through the night, as the man that was running screaming suddenly stopped. His head separated from his body in a clean slash.
“...him off. Yes my king I understand.” commander barks, finished what I was about to say.
I nodded, I don’t need to talk much again.
The courtyard leading to the arena reeked of even more blood, than anywhere else.
Two enemy Alphas knelt before me in chains. Kerrick of Hollowfang and Ronan of the Crescent Teeth. They were bloodied from head to toe with their own blood. But instead of seeing the despair in their eyes. They had that heroic look I despise so much.
And that was the problem.
They were too calm.
Like men with nothing left to lose other than finding joy in dying for a foolish course.
A lost course at that.
I paced before them, slowly and silently, while fighting with Dax who wanted to just end everything.
“You attacked my pack, ” I finally said after fighting another different war inside my head. “You hurt my men. You endangered my pack.”
They didn’t speak. Only continued to look at me like i was a clown
I clenched my fists. “TALK!”
Ronan raised his head first, mouth curled in disdain. “Talk? What is there to say, mafia King?” He spat blood at my feet. “You’ve already written our fates. You might as well finish it.”
Kerrick, the one beside him chuckled bitterly. “Go ahead. Kill us, silence us like you have been doing. That’s what you were made for, right? Only Destruction.”
I stepped closer. My nostrils flaring, don't act all righteous. The council has committed a lot of atrocities yet you choose to stand by their side. What does that make the two of you…Hypocrites?”
“The council are peace loving people…”
“peace loving my foot.” I snapped, already losing it.
“We are the righteous group. The council is the savior of the world. My mission has been accomplished.”
I gave a dry laugh, that sounded like a maniac that was laughing. They two men furrowed their brows , looking at each other. But it didn't escape my notice.
“Lies,” I growled at their faces. “All of you are lies. You think I don’t know why you came?”
They flinched.
“What are you talking about?” Kendrick scowled at me.
I stepped closer. Rage burning in my eyes.
“Tell me why you are so invested in the boy, and I might let you live.”I asked, my voice sharp, too calm.
Kerrick didn’t answer immediately. Neither did Ronan who always had something to say. They just exchanged a glance, quick, too quick. But I saw it.
They knew something.
And they were protecting it.
“Speak,” I demanded, my wolf surging up but I held it back. I didn't want to force them to. They were alphas ,and if I was forced to, in front of my commander's. words will spread out out immediately and my secret will be exposed
Nothing.
I let silence stretch a little longer, before I nodded to one of the warriors who stepped forward holding a box. I opened the box that was filled with different torturing tools and equipment. Dagger, sharp scalpels, surgical scissors, syringe, a branding iron and a lot more instruments for doing one thing.
Pain.
There was a collective sharp intake of breath around me.
I picked a small short dagger, “this will do perfectly.” holding it up for all to see.
Ronan’s lips twitched. He thought I was bluffing.
I wasn’t.
I grabbed his hand, and without warning, sliced clean through his smallest finger that fell off with a thud.
Ronan howled like a woman in labour. body thrashing and rolling on the ground.
“Tsk tsk , so much for all that bravery”
Kerrick shouted, “Bastard!”
“You can start talking” I stared at him coldly, coldly. “Or the next organ to grace the earth will be your tongue.”
Kerrick eyes bulged out, fear finally colouring his righteous face. But before he could speak Rowan laughed through the agony, his eyes filled with hate.
“You crossed a line, Damon.”
I stopped, brandishing the dagger as I eyed his second finger. He shivered.
“What line?”
Ronan's face twisted darkly. “You know what you did and the council is out to get you.
Kerrick’s voice came next, cold and bitter. “You stole a boy from his pack. A child, and made him your pet. Your... bed-warmer.”
“How dare you…”
I was at my limit. My claws itched to snap theit neck and stop this charade once and for all. My eyes flashed but I paused.
“Why are the council after me?”
“You don't know,” Rowan laughed like a maniac.
I stepped closer, shadows rippling off my skin like smoke, my aura was brimming through my skin, itching to pour out and drown these two clowns.
A sharp sound of metal against flesh echoed, followed by another scream of agony.
“What don't I know.” I repeated, my voice dripping with venom.
“You’re desperate now, aren’t you?” he hissed. “You don’t even know what he is.”
That word hit me like cold water.
“What is he?”
Kerrick smiled darkly. “You think you saved a slave? You think you pulled a broken thing from the mud and made it yours? You blind, cursed fool. He’s more than you. More than all of us.”
“Then tell me!” I growled, grabbing Ronan by the collar. “What is he?!”
But the smirk returned.
“You’ll see,” Ronan whispered, voice shaking with something deeper than pain. “When the truth rises… when the dormant power inside him awakens… then you will understand what you have truly done.”
Kerrick leaned forward, face full of venom. “They’ll drag you through the dust, chain you like the beast you are, and watch you burn. Not for the wars. Not for the bloodshed you have caused, But for defiling our saviour”
My control snapped. My aura I have been trying real hard to reign in flooded out like a water that was let loose in a dam.
All around me warriors dropped to their knees unable to withstand my true aura.
My claws closed around Rowan’s throat. He choked on his spit, eyes bulging out in shock and fear.
Everybody backed away silently in fear.
Who was Rowan?
He is an alpha, an untouchable being, but in my front he was no different than a stray dog.
“You’re just like your father… a monster with a leash. But no one’s holding yours anymore, it will consume you…”
I growled. Then a snapping sound echoed, followed by a thud.
My eyes burned gold
Kerrick face turned into shock, the followed by horror “you…you are…a”
The air darkened. My control slipped away even further. As my pressure bore down on him, freezing his words.
“But…that doesn't stop them. He regained himself. “You don't know the reason why they are able to convince alphas to rally behind them…” he smiled.
I frowned. That smile wasn't any type of smile. It was an acceptance of fate.
Everything happened faster than I could blink. Catching me unawares.
he bit down.
A metallic crunch reached my ears, I lunged for him, but it was too late.
“Nooooo!!”
A knowing smile hung on his face. “This is for the council. YOU’LL BURN IN HELL…YOU AND YOUR DARK FORCES!”
His body spasmed violently.
With a roar that shook the surrounding. My sword disappeared from its sheath…
blood painted the stones in an arc style, as goggling sound filled the air.
Before his body dropped, lifeless beside his fellow accomplice.
A horrified gasp tore through the silence.
It was soft, shocking and heartbreaking.
“Mate”
Dax’s voice boomed in my head.
My breath caught, I turned.
And there he stood.
Milo.
Eyes wide, tears streaming down his pretty face.
“he saw…stop him!” Dax’s voice thundered inside my head.
But before I could react, Milo had already turned and bolted into the woods.
