Chapter 28 Aftermath
Chapter 28: aftermath
Milo pov
“...he is healing too fast. That kind of regeneration doesn’t make sense. He's an omega, not a Beta or a…”
“Enough! ” A commanding voice snapped.
My stomach sank. That voice…
“If you ever breathe a word of this, Doctor, I will make sure you never speak again.” The commanding voice threatened.
master!, was he protecting me?
My breath caught in my throat and I gasped loudly, catching their attention.
The door immediately was flung open.
Master stepped in first, his presence filling the room like a shadow. The doctor scurried in behind him fidgeting.
“You are awake…” master asked,
My wolf growled in my head.
But I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. It was as if all my thought processes had instantly vanished from meeting him, and I couldn't produce a single word.
Awkward tension and silence descended in the room, like a shadow.
The doctor looked between us, and then, clearly not wanting to stay a second longer, mumbled something about "later check-ups" and before fleeing for his life.
Leaving me alone with him.
Damon didn’t speak right away. He just stared at me like I was an alien.
He had a blank expression on his face, but I didn’t miss the flicker of emotion that flared on his eyes when his eyes flickered at my bandages.
But then like a candle that was snuffed out, it was gone. He slipped back into the mask. Neutral. Untouchable.
“Mate…” My wolf growled again, this time louder than before.
“How do you feel?” he asked again, voice even,
But silence greeted him, My body had frozen from what my wolf just said. Mate?
“He hurt us” Something in me. animalistic and primal, began to rise.
My newly awakened wolf stirred, and I felt a rising feeling like boiling water. My hands trembled. My heart began beating wildly.
“He hurt us”
Damon took a step closer.
My entire body reacted violently, tensing, trembling.
No. No. Don’t come closer.
I didn’t say it aloud, but I felt my teeth clench, my vision narrow. I wanted to scream. I wanted to disappear. I wanted to…
My wolf growled even louder.
The machine beside me beeped loudly in alarm. Damon stepped back, surprised. I barely saw the medics rush in, only felt the sting of the needle, and the rushed voices of the nurses who tried to stabilise me. I felt something cool being pushed into my veins.
Everything slowed,
the rising feeling went back in. My vision blurred as darkness crept in.
The last thing I saw was his worried face before my eyelids closed again.
“Heyy”
“Wake up…”
I slowly opened my eyes, blinking several times to adjust to the soft light around me. I tried to make sense of my surroundings.
The ceiling above me wasn’t the sterile, bland paĺe ceiling of the hospital I remembered. This one was desìgned beautifully with faint golden carvings of different arts. My nose twitched, the scent in the room…gods, it was intoxicating. It was easily the sweetest smell I have ever perceived.
faint lavender, with a touch of cedarwood. mixed with something unmistakably warm and familiar…
"Are you going to keep on sleeping like a pampered pup, or do you plan to move that sorry excuse of a body today?"
My eyes snapped fully open.
Not because I recognized the rude and snarky voice of my wolf in my head. No, but because… I wasn’t in the hospital anymore.
I gasped, shooting up from the bed like an arrow. I immediately regretted my actions. As a dull ache shot through my back.
I froze, checking myself up and down. The plasters and bandages were almost gone. At least I was not looking like a mummified mummy. Then I noticed that my hands were not all sticked up with different sizes of needles. But that was not all…the pain was gone.
At least most of it. It was nothing like the skin deep pain from earlier where it felt like I was being burned alive from the inside out. And even someone had changed me out of the bloodstained rags.
What the hell was happening?
That's when I saw him.
Seated in a chair, long legs crossed, and a bottle of wine beside him. This was my first time seeing him at work. I bit my lips,
He looked so perfect and dangerously beautiful that I felt the urge to make my way over to him and worship at his feet.
He was skimming through a parchment, looking so invested and focused like he didn’t just sentence me to be publicly whipped…
I was in my masters chambers. My mouth moved before I could stop myself.
“Master?”
He looked up from his work, surprise and shock flickering across his face. And for a moment, no one spoke anything.
“They said you wouldn’t wake up this soon,” he murmured after a while, dropping the parchment he was holding.
I flinched the moment he stood. I didn’t mean to, but my body just did it on its own accord, recoiling like a terrified mouse. He froze, I wish I hadn’t looked… to see how his face crumbled for just a heartbeat. A flash of pain, hesitation, and something else, maybe Regret? appeared on his face, but like as fast as it had appeared, it disappeared so fast I wasn’t even sure it was real.
Maybe I had seen wrong.
