Chapter 112 Match making
Match making
Milo pov
“dont worry. You will definitely l win the deathmatch Shadowborn.” A thick-armed man grinned at me, elbowing my side in a playful way that caused me to groan inwardly. “Deathmatch won’t know what hit it.”
A chorus of agreement followed his speech.
“Win it.”
“Crush them.”
“Make Diamond history come back to life again!”
I swallowed hard, forcing my throat to loosen. Words of encouragement were… foreign to me. And since I knew what the death match was all about ,it's been bothering me all the time.
“We are proud of you Milo. You are the first person to become a diamond bearer ever since she won hers” a small petite but dangerous looking female said, blowing me a kiss.
“Hahahah, I almost forgot how it feels to win a diamond badge. But since our sister refuses to teach, I can always come to Shadowborn for advice anytime.” The loudest, shadowflame, slapped his thighs in a joking manner, causing the entire circle to erupt in a boisterous laughter.
“We can't wait for the two legendary Diamond beaters to face themselves, who will win??” The loud Shadow barked out, causing chaos to reign among them, as they aggressively argued back and forth on who would win.
Some even pitched for a mock fight between me and this legendary Diamond. I laughed nervously, while trying to brush off the unease creeping towards my spine.
Having no other choice I turned to the only person I know that would satisfy my curiosity. James, who has been quiet since the beginning.
“Who is this legendary figure they keep on talking about?” I whispered,
“Her name is the Silent Dancer. The only name that is not according to the traditions of the Shadow naming.”
“Why?” I saw myself asking for more information, desperate for the answer.
“Because she is a natural rebel. She had disarmed five shadows in just the 150th Tick of the clock. She moves so fast that her opponents won't see her until it's too late, hence her name the silent dancer. She is the strongest Shadow, after master.”
I listened quietly to what James was saying. Strangely, I felt a warm hum in my bones, like my bones and.muscles were itching to meet this legendary person.
“Don't even think of it” James suddenly said,
“Huh?”
“If you go against the Silent dancer in a one on one fight, you would lose for sure.” James said with a total conviction on his face, that made me squirm uncomfortably, suddenly dreading the idea at all.
I shook my head to rid myself of the dread , leaned closer again. Curiosity shining in my eyes, as I dared James silently.
“Then what is her real name? Where is she now?”
"Who?" I asked, while trying not to sound so desperate.
His smile turned sharp, almost taunting. “Names hold power, Milo. And that name is not yours to know yet.”
My fists clenched tightly at my side, but I swallowed down my frustration.
Before I could press further, loud laughter suddenly erupted around the fire. I looked up to see who they were bickering this time, and to my shock, it was the two lovers, Andrian and Alex.
Apparently the gathered shadows were making fun of the two lovers, or they must have teased them. It is obvious from the way they sat shoulders pressed together, fingers interlocked, and a slight blush creeping their cheeks. Especially the other one shadow… that felt like he would disappear inside his partner at any moment.
“Shameless!” someone roared,
The group erupted in wolfish howls, clearly amused by the shy uncomfortable couples.
I chuckled slowly, clearly happy for them, but then my smile didn't stay for long.
“But you know,” a young shadow smirked, pointing across the flames towards me in a devious smile. “Speaking of shamelessness. Shadowborn and our commander… pitched tighter than those two ever will.”
My face burned instantly. My heart jolted up like it would leave my chest.
“W…what?”
Laughter exploded all around me, making the situation more embarrassing than it already is.
“Oh, don’t act shy now shadowborn!” shadowflame, the leader bellowed, pointing his cup at me with spittles flying everywhere. “We have all seen it in the training room. Our commander looks at you differently, especially during the fight with shadowforce, he almost looked at you…” he paused, dramatically lowering his voice like it would somehow magnify the effect of what he wanted to say next, “…like a mate.”
Shocked gasps echoed through the group. The Shadows howled with amusement. Some slapped their knees, the one near me, nudged me hard in a knowing way.
The young shadow snorted, leaning forward with a wicked grin. “Careful though Shadowborn. Don’t let the commander steal all your spotlight. Or maybe… he already has.”
A chorus of chuckles and whistles followed.
Heat rushed to my cheeks before I even understood what they meant. My tongue stumbled uselessly. “Wh…what? No, that’s…”
“Look at him blush!” one of them shouted, doubled over with laughter. “Our little diamond has secrets!”
My skin burned hotter than the flames, and I hated that my stammering only made them laugh harder, despite my protest.
Shadowborn and the Commander,” someone added, slapping his knee. “Wouldn’t that shake the whole pack to its core.”
I didn’t dare look up. My heart thundered, cheeks hot, hands sweating.
I froze. I didn't dare look up. My heart thundered in my chest, as the words continued to repeated echoe in my head.
"A mate?"
