Chapter 50
After hugging Kane for a while, he let go of me.
His eyes swept over me carefully from head to toe.
I could tell his eyes were full of amazement.
Though I felt a bit shy, I couldn't help but ask expectantly, "How do you think I look now?"
Kane nodded repeatedly, his voice full of delight as he said, "Wonderful! You look like an angel sent from heaven to save me!"
I didn't expect Kane to think so highly of me.
Embarrassed, I buried my head in his chest, a hint of sweet joy creeping into my smile.
He gently patted my head and said in a low voice, "We should both go to bed early tonight to welcome tomorrow's happiness."
I completely agreed with what he said, so after a quick wash, we both lay down in bed.
Breathing in the mixed scent of body wash and cologne on him, I felt especially safe.
Even though I had already slept for a long time that afternoon, I couldn't help but close my eyes and sleep soundly.
Kane seemed to be gently stroking me the whole time.
I could feel his tender fingers softly running through my hair, which made me sleep even better.
When I woke up the next morning, Kane was already fully dressed.
He wore a wedding suit and looked very handsome and sharp, with a bright red rose pinned to his chest.
Kane turned to look at me as I just woke up, smiling as he placed a kiss on my forehead.
The warm, burning sensation brought me fully awake.
I blinked at Kane, my heart suddenly racing.
After today, this man would truly be my husband.
My hand couldn't help but grip the corner of the blanket tighter, my heart beating even faster.
It was incredible that I could have such a wonderful husband.
When I was being beaten by Luca, I used to think about what my future would be like.
When I came of age, Luca would eagerly marry me off to another gambling addict he was friends with in exchange for money.
From then on, I would live the same life as my mother.
That's what I had always thought, but fate played a trick on me.
It let me meet Kane and showed me that in this world, someone could be good to me unconditionally.
So now, looking at Kane, my eyes felt warm.
Seeing me looking like I was about to cry, Kane was clearly panicking.
He reached out to wipe my tears, his voice carrying some confusion, "Dear Sonya, what's wrong?"
I felt too embarrassed to tell Kane what I was really thinking.
After all, I figured Kane would definitely be angry if he heard me say I had thought about being married off to another man.
So I shook my head and said to Kane with emotion and a choked voice, "I was just thinking that I'm about to become your bride, and I'm very happy."
The emotion in my voice probably made Kane very happy.
He didn't suspect anything at all, just stroked my head again, his movement as gentle as a feather.
His voice was full of solemnity as he said to me, "From the day I decided to marry you, Sonya, I made up my mind. No matter what, I would make you my bride."
I looked up to meet his eyes and instinctively asked a question, "When did you truly fall in love with me?"
Kane was silent for a moment. I could see that his eyes looked somewhat unclear.
I thought I had asked the wrong question, but Kane slowly spoke, his voice full of tenderness, like a jar filled with honey that made people want to sink into it.
He said to me, "I saw you a long time ago, and I definitely fell in love with you much earlier than you imagine."
I blinked in disbelief.
But before I could ask any questions, there was a knock on the door.
Athena's respectful voice came from outside, "Mr. Moretti, it's time. We need to do Miss Sonya's makeup, or we won't make it to the wedding on time."
Hearing this, we looked at each other.
Kane pulled me up from the bed, and we went to the bathroom together.
I hadn't seen my wedding dress yet - it had been sent directly to the wedding venue.
"Are we going to do makeup at the wedding venue?"
Looking at the manor, which seemed unchanged from usual, I looked at Kane with some confusion.
Kane nodded and said to me, "We need to go to Moretti Castle first. That's where our wedding will be held."
I had never been to Moretti Castle before.
But I had seen pictures and information about it online - it was much more luxurious than here.
I had been curious before why Kane didn't take me to Moretti Castle if he was going to marry me.
Now thinking about it, perhaps he had other reasons.
I used to think he just wanted to keep me on the side to have children for him.
But now, judging from his feelings for me and the struggles within his family, if I went to Moretti Castle, I would probably be eaten alive in no time.
I knew my personality wasn't suited for navigating such a complicated family.
Suddenly, Kane waved his hand in front of me. I looked up at him.
He raised an eyebrow at me, his voice full of steadiness and magnetism, with some joy, "What are you thinking about? Are you as happy as I am because we're getting married today?"
Hearing Kane's words, I couldn't help but smile.
I nodded vigorously, not denying my happiness today.
I came to the dining table with him, and Nina saw me with a big smile on my face.
She handed me a beautifully wrapped package.
"Dear Sonya, this is my wedding gift for you. I really don't have much money, but this is the best I could possibly choose, and I believe you'll love it."
Looking at the gift Nina prepared for me, my eyes were full of emotion.
I immediately unwrapped the beautiful packaging, and inside was actually a pair of crystal swans.
Once, I had stood outside this swan ornament shop.
Looking at this pair of swans, I had said to Nina, who was beside me with love in my voice, "I really like this pair of swans. They remind me of how my mother protected me. If I could, I'd like to save up some money to buy them."
But that was just a pipe dream for me.
At least it was for me back then.
I never expected Nina to remember this and actually buy them.
My eyes blinked, and tears couldn't help but fall.
Nina quickly came forward to hug me and wiped the tears from my eyes, saying, "I gave you this gift to make you happy, not to make you cry."
I hugged her, buried my head in her chest, and said with a choked voice, "Nina, you're my best friend for life."
She said proudly, "Of course I'm your best friend, and always will be."
