Chapter 48
After seeing me shake my head, a smile tugged at the corner of Kane's mouth.
Keith seemed to think of something and started yelling at me frantically, "If you don't stay away from this guy, he'll kill you sooner or later! He's a psycho!"
I could feel Kane's expression become even more serious after hearing Keith's words, and his killing intent grew much stronger.
He stood up and walked over to Keith, suddenly punching him in the face.
Keith had his mouth open, about to speak, when that heavy blow made him spit out two bloody teeth.
My heart trembled, but I didn't feel as scared as I thought I would.
Because I knew I would never do anything to hurt Kane, so he would never treat me like this.
The other two people nearby watched this scene in silence.
I couldn't tell what they were feeling, no fear, no appreciation either.
They just stood there watching quietly, like strangers.
Kane shook his arm and lifted Keith's chin.
His eyes were like a leopard lurking in the darkness, staring intently at Keith.
It made Keith shake all over uncontrollably.
Keith lost all his earlier arrogance and said shakily, "I'm your uncle. Aren't you afraid that when I die and see your father, I'll tell him about all this?"
Kane didn't care at all about what Keith said.
He even grabbed Keith's hair directly and yanked his head back hard, his expression cold and distant.
"If you see my father, and he finds out it was you who messed with his car back then, do you think he'll let you off?"
Kane's words plunged the private room into silence again. Even I was shocked.
Kane's father's death was actually connected to Uncle Keith?
But they were brothers.
I couldn't quite understand how things had gotten to this point, so I just quietly watched Kane.
Keith's expression turned panicked again.
I saw his eyes fill with fear - real fear this time, not fake.
I remembered when Nina and I were looking up information about Kane online, everyone said Kane was a cold and ruthless person.
He had a private sea area filled with man-eating sharks.
After killing people, his favorite thing was to push their bodies into the sea and watch the sharks tear the corpses apart.
Even as I witnessed Kane's cruelty and ruthlessness firsthand, I wasn't afraid of him at all. Instead, I felt sorry for him.
If Kane didn't use such harsh methods, he'd probably be bullied by these relatives.
Looking at Kane, my heart ached a bit. Just then, Kane turned to look at me too.
He didn't see fear or terror in my eyes, which seemed to surprise him. Then he showed a gentle smile.
"You eat first. After you're full, I'll have Bandel take you out for a walk. I need to handle this matter next."
Hearing Kane's words, Keith tried to struggle frantically, but Kane didn't hesitate to punch him twice in the mouth.
Keith's lips were torn, and he was in too much pain to speak.
I lowered my head and ate quietly. This expensive place really was worth it.
All the dishes here were delicious. Even a simple salad had a fresh taste I'd never experienced before.
I slowly put the last piece of fish in my mouth, then stood up and said to Kane, "I'm full now. Can I leave?"
Keith, who was half-unconscious, trembled all over when he heard my words.
He opened his eyes to look at me and reached out his hand, seeming to want to say something.
But I turned my face away and completely ignored him.
If it were someone else, maybe I'd feel a bit sorry for them.
But Keith had done that to Kane's father.
Although I'd never met Kane's father, in a way, he should have become my family.
I couldn't forgive Keith on Kane's behalf, so I pretended not to see Keith's plea for help.
As I followed Bandel out and the door to the private room closed, I heard screaming from inside.
I couldn't help but stop.
Bandel turned around, his eyes showing some confusion. He probably misunderstood me.
He stood in front of me and explained seriously, word by word, "What Mr. Moretti hates most in his life is people who betray him."
In a way, Keith had betrayed both Kane and Kane's father.
That's why Kane was so cruel to him. Bandel looked at me - my expression hadn't changed, and he seemed to want to say more.
Finally, he just sighed quietly and crouched down very seriously, looking up at me.
"If Mr. Moretti wasn't this harsh, he'd be the one who died. He brought you here today specifically to let you see what he's really like beyond what you see, hoping you can accept him as he is."
I nodded without hesitation, my eyes clear without a trace of deception.
"I think Kane did the right thing. That's how you should treat traitors. Kane must have known about Keith's betrayal of his father early on. He gave Keith a chance."
My words clearly shocked Bandel. He didn't expect me to say this.
"Looks like there's a good reason Kane likes you. Where do you want to walk around, or should we go straight back to the manor to prepare for tomorrow's wedding?"
I believed what Kane said about booking a full body skincare management team for me.
I looked back at the closed private room. The screaming from inside was getting weaker and weaker.
I turned back to look at Bandel and said with a smile, "Tomorrow is my wedding day. I want to be a perfect bride too. Let's go back to the manor."
It seemed Kane's actions had no effect on me at all. Bandel visibly relaxed.
He personally drove me back to the manor. By then, Athena was already waiting at the manor entrance to greet me.
I saw the group of people behind her and understood.
This must be the body management team Kane had booked for me.
Seeing me return, Athena immediately came forward and said respectfully, "These people have been waiting for you."
The person in charge had a temperament a bit like Merlin, but she was a typical Eastern European.
"Now we need to do a skin test for you. Tomorrow you'll be radiant and become the most beautiful bride in the world."
I was actually looking forward to tomorrow.
The wedding I imagined should be gorgeous like in fairy tales, with everyone's blessings. I used to dream about marrying the man I loved.
The man in my dreams had no face.
But now that face had a specific appearance - it was Kane.
And Kane could really give me the wedding of my dreams.
Being able to reach this point in my life, I was already very content.
"Thank you all for your hard work. I'll tell Kane you did a great job."
My words seemed to flatter the woman in front of me. They surrounded me as we walked into the manor.
