Chapter 40: Dead Man Walking
Zoltan POV
I emerged from the bathroom with a towel wrapped low on my hips. I was hoping to entice my sweet little mate. “Hey Sweetcheeks.” I smiled, walking outta the bathroom. I looked around the room, “Sweetcheeks, where ya at?” I asked as I sniffed the air. I grinned and followed my nose to the hall to the closet and down the stairs. “Where are you, Sweetcheeks?” I asked myself. I got to the kitchen and Blade started growling.
“Mate not here.” Blade growled. “Someone... scent is familiar but not Elite Moon.” Blade inhaled deeper, “scent is brother. He one who take mate. He use silver and wolfsbane.” With that he let out a loud angry roar shaking the whole house and making several windows shatter. Alarms sounded, Vega ran in followed by her brothers and her whole Alpha unit. “She GONE!” Blade roared again. I fell to my knees. Mom, Kristy and Lacy rushed to my side trying to comfort me and Blade.
“SEND OUT TEAMS A AND B!” Vega bellowed his orders. “FIND MARY! BRING HER TO ME, NOW!”
Safyer’s grandparent’s appeared and helped Vega and Celeste settle the chaos around them. Just as I got Blasé under control, I started yelling, “my body! It burns! It’s on fire!”
“No, he must be touching her, she would NEVER betray you.” Celeste assured me, placing cool towels on my arms and body. I guess one of the guys slid a pair of shorts over me.
“I know she’d never betray our bond.” I said. “If he hurts her, I will kill him with my bare paws.” I panted through the pain I was feeling. “MUST FIND HER!” Blade bellowed.
“You need to calm down, you will be of no use to her in this state.” Mom (Kristy) said, rubbing circles on my back trying to help soothe me.
“Alpha Vega, we are unable to find Luna Mary. Her scent is in her room but it’s no where else. We have no idea if she’s still on pack land or not.” One of the guards stated.
“She used a scent blocker, why would mom do that?” Lacy asked out loud.
“I hate to say this, but I think she’s in on whatever Byron and David are into.” Tarby sighed.
“Any ideas, Lacy?” Rollins asked.
“No, mom was always fawning over Mason. I could NEVER do anything to her liking or approval. I wasn’t a proper female.” She shrugged.
“There’s nothin’ wrong about not being a proper female.” Iza smiled.
Austin and Tarby hurried into the room, “Dad, we can’t find any scent for Saf, Mason or Mary.”
“We can usually smell through the blockers, but these must be something new that we will need to look into.” Austin stated.
“Safyer is a smart wolf, she’ll find a way to get a message to us, just like she sent out he when he took her.”
“If he hurts her, believe me, she will get him back. I promise you; she has a plan.” Vega assured. “She will be back home before we know it.”
“How can you be so sure?” I asked.
“Because I trained her, she’s stronger than you think when she has to be.” He assured me.
“But she will also need your strength to comfort her afterwards. She can’t always be the brave and strong General Lutz.” Celeste smiled. “She’s going to need your comfort when she gets home.” Celeste gently patted my cheeks. So, you need to pull yourself together.”
“If he touches her, which... I know he already has.” I growled. “He will die!” I got up and pulled myself together. “Vega, what’s the status? Have any of the trackers found her scent?”
“No, not yet but I don’t think they’ll find any trace of her. He probably used wolfsbane to knock her and Sabel out.” Vega said.
“I hope he realizes that he’s a dead man walking.” I growled
Vega chuckled, “I don’t think he’s even thinking about that.”
“That will work in my favor.” I smirked. “He maybe my brother but that ended when he took my mate from me.”
Safyer POV
“So, how are you getting us outta here?” I asked Aden, “and when? I think only him and Blade can help Seraphina heal. So, the sooner, the better.” I told him.
“We can leave tonight, two of our most inept guards are on duty tonight.” He chuckled.
“So, Mason doesn’t believe in training his warriors anymore.” I snorted.
“It’s not that, these are wolves we came across while we were coming here.” He started to explain. “There weren’t any pack members that stayed with Byron and Mason. they’d all lost trust in them, so they either joined up with you or they moved to a family pack.” He shrugged.
“What time do they start?” I asked.
“Midnight, everyone should be asleep by then.” He said.
“What about Byron and Mason.”
“Mason drinks himself stupid and Byron is buried in whichever willing female he can find.”
“What about Mary? I thought she was the love of his life. He put his own mate into slavery for her.” I commented.
“As he says, she’s not her here, he needs someone to warm his bed until she returns.” He said.
“Poor Mary.” Sara whispered.
Aden chuckled, “don’t feel sorry for her, she knows everything that goes on, she’s even had her own little flings.” He assured Sara.
“Two peas in a pod. I guess they deserve each other.” I lightly snorted.
“Actually, she has your whole pack house bugged.” He admitted.
“That BITCH!” I growled.
“Now, now, you need to learn to play nice.” Mason said as he walked in.
I glared at him and asked, “how your ear? I think I have a little cartilage stuck in my teeth.” I smiled and looked at Aden, “can you see if there’s anything there. It’s really becoming bothersome.” I snickered.
He lifted his hand and gently touches his left ear. “You caught me off guard, I assure you that will never happen again.”
“We will see.” I smiled. “You don’t seem to be as strong as you used to be, are you feeling, okay?” I asked.
“Why ask? You don’t really care.” He scoffed. “Besides, all I need is my mate and my Luna.” He said walking over to me.
“What about Sara? She’s your mate. She’s the one baring your mark and baking your little Alpha heir pup.” I pointed to Sara.
“There’s nothing wrong with having two females, that just means that I will have more Alpha Heirs to run our pack.” He smiled.
“Hhuummppfff,” I said, “so, it’s okay for you to share two females but a female sharing one male is outta the question.” I snorted.
“One male can share two females; one female should NEVER share two males. It’s NOT right.” He huffed.
“You would say that, wouldn’t you.” I growled.
