Chapter 93: Ninety-four

Hope

"What are you doing?" I asked Light, trying my best to keep my voice leveled and hide the fear I felt in my chest.

"You are not ready to join me. Without you being with me, I can't let other people have you and use you against me." Light explained with a detached tone.

"Are you crazy?! You want to kill me just because I don't believe in your nonsense and cruel actions!? Light, what is wrong with you?!" I exploded at her, but she wasn't fazed by my words.

"You are a disappointment to all Vitalis princesses." With that said, Light lunged for me. The angle she used was well thought out, and I wouldn't have enough time to dodge the knife even if I attempted to move.

I closed my eyes and waited for the impact. However, it did not come. But I heard a clank and a thud sound. I opened my eyes to see that Light was on the floor, and that the Morati knife was at the far corner of the kitchen. This scene was not as surprising as seeing Thaddeus in front of me, standing like a shield.

"Wh-what are you doing here?" I spoke, trying to catch my breath as the feeling of almost dying overwhelmed me.

"I heard that serious matters were going to take place today and you were in the castle playing house. I thought to catch your true self as the entire thing must have been set up by you, but it seems like I was wrong." Thaddeus looked at Light who was trying to get back to her feet but with great difficulty.

It was so unexpected of Thaddeus to save me. He has been my number one hater from the very start, and now he was suddenly protecting me? It didn't seem right.

"Don't think too much about it, just know that-"

Light tore into a loud screech as she finally managed to get back on her feet. This time, on reflex, I quickly pushed her away with all my strength.

Gaun!

The sound of Light hitting her head on a nearby utensil shelf tore through the entire kitchen. Light let out a pain-filled groan. I looked at her and saw that there was blood dripping down from her head.

This time, she did not even attempt to stand up from the ground. It seemed like she had landed on a very vital part of her body.

My heart bleed with guilt and sympathy. At the end of the day, no matter her atrocious deeds, Light was still my sister. The sister that I grew up with and admired immensely.

Now, she had become this version of herself who couldn't tell right from wrong. It was so terrible. Unconsciously, I began to take steps towards her. But I was stopped as Thaddeus put a hand out to block me from taking any further steps.

"What do you think you're doing?" he asked with a snappy tone.

With an equally snappy tone, I said, "I want to talk to her, that's what I'm doing."

"Are you crazy? This lunatic just tried to kill you a moment ago! What is there to talk about? Go back to your quarters while I send her to the dungeon and relay a message to Darius about her presence here." Thaddeus spoke with a strict tone. But I ignored his words.

"What right do you think you have over me to get me to listen to your orders? Are you forgetting that I'm a queen? You go relay a message to Darius while I stay here and talk to my sister." I said firmly.

Thaddeus looked like he had negative words to say about my commands but he swallowed them up and did as was instructed of him by me, leaving the kitchen.

With him gone, I looked back at Light and noticed that she hadn't inched from her position. Maybe her spine was broken as she landed on the shelf. I felt even more guilty at this time.

"Light, are you okay?" I asked with a soft tone, taking a step towards her.

There was a self-depreciating smile on her lips as she said, "Do I look okay?"

She did not.

"Light, I thought we were better than this. I thought you were better than this." With every word I spoke with a soft voice, I took a step towards Light. Then crouched down once I was close enough to her side.

"Without this goal... I have nothing else to live for." Light said.

I rubbed my eyes before saying, "You have me. You've always had me. You've always said I should trust you. Trust me this time. For once."

"I don't want this 'goal' of yours to destroy you, just like it destroyed the others before us. Please-"

I cut myself short as I noticed a tear slide down from Light's cheeks.

Instinctively, I put out a hand to wipe the tear away. "You don't have to do this anymore. There'll be peace even after this because the Lycans aren't all terrible people."

"Hm, you like them that much, don't you?" Light said.

The image of Darius appeared in my head and I nodded unconsciously.

Light let out a sad laugh. "You have such a good heart. It's a shame that not all people are like you."

To these words, I didn't respond. I couldn't say I have a pure heart. But if Light thought so...

"It's alright. I'm sorry for trying to stab you. I just- cough cough." Light choked on her words and I quickly moved to soothe her back.

She rested her head on my shoulder and said, "I'm truly sorry."

I smiled and said, "It's okay. You don't need to apologize-"

I felt something sharp dig in to my stomach. It was unlike the feeling of last time. This time, the pain of being stabbed was excruciating.

I looked down to see the Morati knife inside me and Light's hand around the knife's handle. I lifted my head to look at Light.

There was a proud smile on her face as she said, "Long live the real humans and death to monster supporters."

Black dots painted my vision after hearing that and I fell into oblivion.
