Chapter 81: Chapter 81
The "First Leo" did not walk across the water; the water solidified into glass beneath his feet. He looked like my son—the same defiant jaw, the same messy hair—but he carried the weight of a thousand centuries. He was dressed in the original 2026 Vance-Aero flight suit, unweathered and pristine, as if he had been stepped out of a vacuum-sealed moment of history.
Behind him, the Vance-Aero Atlantis groaned, its golden hull shedding seawater like molten coins. This wasn't a ship; it was a sarcophagus that had been waiting in the dark pressure of the Puget Sound for ten million years.
"Mom," our Leo whispered, his binary arm flickering with a jagged, nervous energy. "Who is that? Why does he have my face?"
"He doesn't have your face, Leo," I said, my voice barely a breath. "You have his."
The Two Alphas
The First Leo stopped at the shoreline, his eyes—ancient, golden, and terrifyingly calm—surveying the wreckage of the park. He looked at Kaelen, the obsidian-and-gold Progenitor, and tilted his head.
"Father," the First Leo said. His voice was a resonant baritone that carried no emotion, only authority. "The Atlantis has detected the frequency shift. You’ve triggered the Refinance Clause. You’ve turned the Hive-Mind into a garden, but you haven't accounted for the Infrastructure."
Kaelen shifted back into his human form, his skin steaming in the cool Seattle air. He stood between our Leo and the newcomer. "The war is over, boy. The Beholder is stable. We’re home."
"Home is a relative term," the First Leo replied. "The Atlantis didn't surface to welcome you. It surfaced to reclaim the Ag_{99} isotopes you’ve scattered across this timeline. To save this version of Earth, I have to drain the 'Fever' from every living thing. And that includes the Silver in your blood."
The Atlantis Protocol
The First Leo raised his hand, and the golden submarine began to pulse with a deep, subsonic hum.
Protocol: RECLAIMER-01
Mechanism: Molecular de-stablization of all Silver-Blood mutations.
Objective: To return the Earth to its "Baseline" 2026 state.
Side Effect: Instant cellular collapse of any Hybrid (Lycans, Queens, and Spares).
"If you run that protocol," I shouted, stepping forward, "you kill half the people in this city! You kill your father! You kill me!"
"You are anomalies," the First Leo said, and for a split second, I saw a flicker of grief in those golden eyes. "I have sat in the dark for ten million years watching the 'Red' chaos destroy every version of our family. I am the only one who stayed pure. I am the Fail-safe. I will return Earth to a world where mothers don't have to become monsters to save their children."
Son vs. Prototype
Our Leo stepped out from behind Kaelen. His green-binary arm was sparking, the "Red" and "Silver" inside him fighting for dominance.
"You think you're pure?" our Leo spat. "You're a statue! You've been sitting in a box while we were out there bleeding for each other! You don't get to come back now and 'fix' us because we're too messy for your math!"
"You are a corrupted file, 10,000," the First Leo said, his hand glowing with a sharp, golden light. "Allow me to delete you."
The fight was instantaneous.
The First Leo: Moved with the perfection of a god. He used Vector Manipulation, shifting the kinetic energy of the world around him.
Our Leo: Fought with the desperation of a survivor. He used Entropy, throwing his "Red Blood" into the First Leo’s golden fields to create friction and "noise."
It was a battle of Order vs. Chaos. The First Leo fired beams of pure, structured light; our Leo caught them with his ghosting arm and shattered them into a million unpredictable shards.
The Father’s Choice
Kaelen watched the two versions of his son tearing the park apart. He could feel the Progenitor inside him roaring, wanting to end the threat. But which one was the threat?
One son represented the peace we had always dreamed of—a world without the mutation, a world where we were just a family again.
The other represented everything we had fought for—the scars, the struggle, and the messy, beautiful reality of the "Rent."
"Kaelen, stop them!" I cried out, my frost-fire flaring as the First Leo prepared a finishing strike.
Kaelen didn't attack. He stepped between them, his hands open. He didn't shift into the wolf. He stood as the man, the father.
"Leo," Kaelen said, his voice commanding the attention of both. "Look at me."
Both Leos froze.
"The First Leo... you're right," Kaelen said, his eyes softening as he looked at the golden-eyed boy. "We are monsters. We are the 'Fever.' But we are the only ones who can love a world this broken."
Kaelen turned to our Leo. "And you... you're the one who taught me that the 'Rent' is worth paying."
Kaelen reached out and grabbed both of them by the shoulders. He didn't use his strength to crush them. He used his position as the Alpha-Anchor to force a Triple-Sync.
The ground beneath them groaned as the Atlantis submarine began to tilt. The golden hum turned into a scream.
"What are you doing, Father?" the First Leo gasped, his golden eyes widening in fear.
"I'm opening the Archive," Kaelen said, his body beginning to glow with a blinding white light. "I'm not letting you drain us. I'm forcing the Atlantis to share its power with the Beholder. We aren't going back to 2026. We're moving Forward."
The sky erupted. The Beholder-Planet in the atmosphere and the Atlantis-Submarine in the bay connected through Kaelen’s body.
A massive golden pillar of light shot up from the Seattle waterfront, piercing the clouds. And inside that light, I saw the faces of every Elara, every Kaelen, and every Lily that had ever existed.
The "Refinance" was happening, but the currency was Life.
"Mom!" Lily yelled from the top of the Needle. "The signal! It's not just Seattle! It's the whole solar system! We're... we're Terraforming the Void!"
But as the light faded, Kaelen was gone. In his place stood a single, golden door in the middle of the park. And the First Leo was staring at it, his perfection cracked, his hand trembling as he reached for the handle.
"He's in there," the First Leo whispered. "He's at the Final Second. And he's not alone."
