Chapter 77 Have Her in your Pocket

I was in my office when the guard knocked and walked in without waiting for a response.
I was ready to give him a stern reprimanding for the interruption.
“Alpha, the doctor is here.”
I dropped what I was doing immediately and rushed upstairs. Leo was very terrified of the doctor, so much so that as soon as he saw him, he would start crying uncontrollably.
Thankfully, I met the doctor at the stairs and stopped him just in time.
“Hey doc. How about I go see him first before you see him?”
He nodded in understanding and I entered Leo’s room. He ran to me immediately and I picked him up.
“Hey, big boy. Uh, you know I told you the doctor was coming over today, right? He’s here now.”
I saw his mood drop instantly but he quickly nodded and signed okay with his small hands.
That was my son, such a strong and brave boy.
I went back to the door to tell the doctor to come in.
He stood at the door first, not wanting to overwhelm Leo.
“Hello Leo.”
Leo gave him a small wave, already looking nervous.
“Can I see that?” He pointed to Leo’s favorite toy train sitting on the bed.
To this day, I don’t know why he likes that train the most, but I remember the day it got lost under his bed. It was like the end of the world for him.
It seemed the doctor had noticed that he liked it too because Leo smiled a bit before picking it up and giving it to him carefully.
“Can you tell me about your train? Does he have a name?”
“I haven’t thought about giving him one before,” Leo signed slowly.
“How about Lucas?”
Leo thought about it for a moment, his little face scrunched up in concentration.
“Who said it was a boy?”
I laughed lightly, very happy to see him actually engaging with the doctor instead of crying.
“Excuse me.” I left the room to check on Adriana. Usually, she should have been here by now, waiting for the session to start.
After knocking on the door repeatedly, there was no answer, so I opened the door to check if she was asleep.
I was sure that I had seen her going to training this morning, so I knew she wasn’t in bed. So where could she be?
I asked a couple of guards if they’d seen her and nobody seemed to have seen her anywhere.
“Where could she be?”
And she didn’t have a phone I could use to call her. Maybe she just went for a walk and I’m sure she’d be back soon. But that didn’t sound like her at all. She spent most of her time in the room.
Or had her father gotten to her? No, he couldn’t get into this pack without my knowledge. My guards were too well trained for that.
I’d told her about the doctor’s visit and I knew that she wouldn’t miss it. Leo needed her. I just hoped that nothing would go wrong with today’s appointment.
I went back into the room and joined them and the doctor was trying to get him to say the name of the train they’d finally decided on.
“Say it with me, Leo. Percy.”
He looked at me and I could see that he was scared. His mouth was open but no sound was coming out at all.
“Where is Addy?” He signed to me desperately.
The doctor looked at me and I didn’t know what to say to him.
“Who’s Addy?”
“The young lady that was here the last time.”
I sat down beside Leo, pulling him a bit closer to me protectively.
“She stepped out for a moment but she’ll soon be back.”
I looked at the doctor and he seemed to understand the situation without me saying anything more.
We continued like that, hoping that Leo would get to say something, and when almost an hour had passed and he still hadn’t spoken a single word, I got worried.
Where could she be? She couldn’t just disappear like that when she knew about Leo’s appointment and how important it was.
He turned to me again and asked me about her with his eyes wide and I really didn’t know what to say to him.
I excused myself again to look for Hazel, maybe she’d know where Adriana was, but I couldn’t find her either.
Then I remembered that Hazel usually picked up my apples around this time of day.
I went around, asking the guards if any of them saw Adriana anywhere. I’d actually thought of buying her a phone but it kept slipping my mind with everything going on.
“Alpha, is there something you need?” I bumped into Hannah on my way back to the room.
“No, don’t bother yourself.”
She grabbed my arm to stop me from walking away.
“Oh, how can I not bother myself when you seem so troubled? Tell me, maybe I can help you out.”
I sighed heavily, not being in the mood for this at all. I removed her hand from mine and let it drop.
“I’m looking for Adriana. And since you don’t have her in your pocket, I doubt that you can help me.”
I watched her expression drop, which I knew it would, and I walked away. It was too early for me to have to deal with her nonsense.
“Why are you looking for her?”
“Because she makes my son feel better and he needs her.”
I bumped into the doctor on my way back into the room.
“Doctor, what’s the matter?”
“I don’t think we can do anything today. He seems extremely uncomfortable and I don’t want to push him too much. I’ll come over next week, just make sure that Adriana is around. He seems much more relaxed when she’s around. Don’t bother to pay for today’s session.”
Where in the world was she? Why would she disappear when she knew that today was such an important day?
I started to see the doctor out when I heard her voice coming from the entrance.
The first thing I noticed was the man standing beside her that she was laughing with. What was so funny that they were laughing over it?
I could see that she had gone with Hazel to town but why didn’t she say anything to me?
And the only thing she could do was come back home with a strange man she was clearly comfortable with.
It seemed Leo wasn’t as important to her as I thought he was. If he was, she wouldn’t go out, knowing full well that the doctor was coming by today.
