Chapter 47 Soulmates

Chapter 47 Soulmates
ADRIANA

I stared at Elijah as he dropped Leo gently on the bed.

The words he’d said to Hannah replayed in my head. He said I changed his life.

He kissed Leo’s forehead and stood up to face me. With no words, he walked toward me and took my hand in his, bringing it to his lips and kissing it softly.

My eyes fell to his lips, wanting them against mine so badly. He seemed to have gotten the message but I was disappointed when he didn’t kiss me.

Instead he pulled me out of the room, closing the door gently behind him.

Where was he taking me? Did I do something wrong?

We stopped in front of my door and he gave me that look again. What was going on?

As he pulled me inside, I was going to ask what the problem was but he slammed me against the door and kissed me. Hard.

It took a moment to understand what was happening but he didn’t give me much time to think about it because he put my arms around his neck and pulled my head closer to him.

Closing my eyes, I decided to enjoy what I’d been craving since that day on the bed. I’d been thinking about kissing him ever since but I just didn’t know how to initiate it.

He held my waist and hoisted me up and my heart leaped when he approached the bed.

Was it going to happen now? Would this be it? I’d stopped it last time and I regretted it immediately because I should have just let it happen.

When my back touched the bed, he moved away and looked at me.

“I’m sorry for what happened.”

It took me a while to even remember what he was talking about.

“Oh, that.”

He sat on the bed and I felt disappointed.

“I don’t know what came over her.”

I scoffed.

“I do. It’s called madness.”

He laughed deeply and I felt a sudden heat between my legs.

“Has she always been like that?”

He nodded.

“Even before Liam died but back then, I thought it was just a silly crush you know. She’s my best friend’s little sister. I always saw her as a kid and I always will.”

That last sentence made me feel warm. He would never be attracted to her.

“I hope Leo is fine. Just to be clear, I’m not using him to get to you. I would never do that.”

He was already shaking his head before I finished talking.

“You don’t have to defend yourself. I’d be stupid to believe a word she says. I know you genuinely love Leo and I’m not blind to it.”

I felt relieved hearing him say that.

As we went on to talk about other things, my mind wandered. What was this that I was feeling?

Whatever form of attraction it was, I didn’t want it because I knew how terribly this was going to end and I needed to prepare myself for it.

Even better, I needed to avoid it. I didn’t want to be hurt by a man again. It wasn’t worth it.

But the more I tried not to think about him, the more my mind just kept going back to him, betraying me.

I saw different sides to him that made me just melt and I felt so stupid.

Besides, I’m sure he’s just using me to pass the time. As soon as he finds his mate, he’s going to abandon me like some whore so I’d best protect myself now.

I thought Yara said my mate was close to me. So where the hell was he and why was he taking so long to come? If he was actually close to me, he would have sensed me and come for me, right?

I didn’t really know much about how the whole mate thing worked and the only relationship I’d been in was a massive failure so I had no reference point.

However, that was okay. The thought of my mate being close to me gave me hope. At least that means he was alive and he was going to come for me soon. He’d better hurry up though, I didn’t know how much longer I could hold on.

“Are you listening to me?”

No.

“Yes, why not?”

“What was the last thing I said?”

I didn’t know that. I barely even knew the first word he said. Hell, I didn’t even know what he was talking about. He’d never talked this much before.

“I’m sorry, my mind is somewhere else.” I gave him a sheepish smile.

“What is it? What are you thinking about?”

I couldn’t tell you that even with a gun to my head.

“Is it about Hannah?”

I frowned.

“Hell no. It’s not. It’s something else.”

He stayed silent for a moment.

“Is it this?”

Before I could even look up, he kissed me again.

My mouth just hung open in confusion and shock.

“Was it that?”

I could only nod. This man was full of surprises and clearly, he wasn’t done for the day.

He kissed me again and we were laying on the bed again, our lips moving together mindlessly. Unlike normal, I decided not to think about anything. I wanted to just enjoy this moment the way it was and if anything more happened, then that was fine. I couldn’t take it back.

He moved away again and I rolled my eyes.

He laughed.

“Thank you… for taking care of Leo. I didn’t think he needed a mo—you.” He cleared his throat before trying again. “I didn’t think he needed you in his life until he found you and I’m glad you took him as yours. Thank you so much for loving him.”

His eyes… there was something in them as he spoke.

“I think I love him.” Wait, what? “I mean, I love him. He’s a good kid.”

Elijah laughed and looked away.

“Well, I’m sure he loves you too. It’s almost like you both are soulmates.”

What did he mean by that?
