Chapter 334 Another Method
ADRIANA
“Why were you calling me? What happened?”
This was the first time in almost two weeks that I was this close to him. This was also the first time in two weeks that I was smelling my husband's cologne again.
“I thought you were dead. I got called today and I thought the accident was you. Turns out you were too busy having fun to even pick my calls.”
He looked like he was done with my bullshit and technically, I didn't care.
“Why do you keep saying this? I just told you that I misplaced my phone. What more do you want from me? I apologized for not coming to the station quickly. But how was I supposed to know? I didn't have my phone.”
Was that the excuse he was going for? When I turned around to face him, he knew he had said something stupid.
“You don't need a damn phone call to know when your wife is not in the house. Usually, you can feel her absence and when she's not in bed next to you, you get your ass up and go look for her. I guess I can only count on Hazel to save me.”
I freed my arm and left him standing there. As I got to the door, I turned to look at him.
“If you say you lost your phone, how did you know that I was crying?”
“We’re mates, Even. Yara told me.”
Yara was my wolf. I hadn't really had a use for her in a very long time since I wasn't really doing any work aside from taking care of the kids.
Seeing the look of worry on his face, I couldn't help but wonder what he might have been thinking. He actually seemed really worried about me.
So I hugged him.
I ran up to him and hugged him and he pulled me in tighter.
We stayed there for like almost ten minutes just making the best out of the time.
There was nothing to be said because I didn't even have anything to say to him. At least, not now.
“Adr-”
I quickly let go of him and stepped back.
“That doesn't mean I'm still not mad at you. I have something to do.”
I was just glad that he was okay and I didn't let my husband because of what he did when I was walking away from him.
It was meant to be a whisper but I had heard it.
“I love you and I miss you.”
As I went back into the house, I headed straight for where I had set up the former board and I took down everything.
“Why’re you taking it down? The case isn't solved yet.”
I turned to look at Hazel.
“No, but we have fresh leads. For example I know that Alisha was in love with Tim. She wanted him so badly that she tried to break their marriage up because of it. Also, Tim told me a time she climbed in through a window to get to him. Remember what we found at the crime scene?”
She thought about it for a moment.
“A broken window”.
I snapped my fingers and wrote that down on the board too.
“So you're saying that Alisha went into the cabin that day, killed Lucy, told Tim that Lucy was there with her lover so that Tim would go there?”
That was just the half of it.
“Alisha had no idea that Tim would be so fast. If she had know that Tim was going to be fast, perhaps she would have gotten out of there faster.”
It was a stretch but I had a theory.
“What do you mean? Are you saying-”
“I’m saying that Alisha was still in the house when Tim got there. The water on the stove, was for the both of them. That's why there were two cups. When she eventually killed her, she hid somewhere so that Tim would take the blame and then called the coast guard to come. When he took Tim out, she ran away.”
As I said, it was just a theory. I could be wrong in so many things. But it seemed to make sense.
Right now, she was the only one with motive to kill.
“Hold on, the coast guard said be locked the door when he was going out. How did she get away?”
I'd hoped she would ask that.
“According to Tim, she's a contortionist. She could have easily climbed out of that window. But then, the window wasn't broken all the way and there's no way she would have left that place without scratches on her back. So she used another method.”
She looked away from the board.
“Another method like?”
“If this was a normal setting and you had a house, don't you think I would have a spare key?”
At this point, I didn't even know if what I was saying was making sense anymore or I was just reaching.
“Yes, yes you would. So you're saying she used the spare key she had to get out of the house?”
That was as far as my theory of the events of that day went. Right now, I wish I was psychic so that I could ask Lucy what the hell had happened and who had killed her because now, her so called best friend was dead too.
“So what are we going to do now? I mean, everything we've said is just circumstantial and you know. We don't have proof putting her there at the house that day. We don't have her holding the knife. We can't put a knife in a dead woman's hands. They'll think it's a witch hunt.”
I couldn't imagine them finding out that I wanted to blame a woman, whose body was just found .
Why didn't I call for her earlier? I would have known that she was missing and now, she was dead.
I didn't even know what to do.
