Chapter 317 Bottom of the Food Chain

Chapter 317 Bottom of the Food Chain
ADRIANA

One of the men looked at us with barely contained disdain as he muttered. “Get down and get out.”

Weren't they supposed to bring us out?

“We’re in cuffs, you flipping twit!”

They turned around to look at us. Well, me and Hazel's angry face.

“Oh.”

What did I do to deserve this?.

They finally had mercy on us and brought us down from the car.

“Walk straight and don't look at anyone. You're the bottom of the food chain.”

He's not going to be on the food chain by the time I get out of here.

The place was big. I'm guessing it's because it's the district. We got in the elevator and the only thing that could be heard at first was the changing of floors..

Well, that was until the officers decided that they wanted to tell us about how wild their last night was.

Hazel couldn't hide the disgust on her face and she made sure that they saw it.

“Do you have something to say, girl? Or you want me to hit it out of you?”

“I’d like to see you try.”

“What did you say?”

As he walked over to Hazel, I just closed my eyes because I was beginning to get sleepy and anything going on in here had nothing to do with me.

I heard a few blows and slaps being landed but all that didn't concern me and I didn't open my eyes until the  elevator door pinged open..

From the mirror I could see the officer holding his cheek and there was a huge smile on Hazel's face so I knew that she got what she wanted.

One of the officers went into the office first perhaps to tell him that we were here.

He came back out a few minutes later and signalled for us to come in.

The office smelt like the ocean and a little mint and that seemed to clear my stomach and airway.

Tobias was not who I thought he was.

I thought he would be some older man with a little gray hair and a pot belly. After all, he had a son as old as that bum we are being accused of kidnapping.

The man we saw standing by the window was a tall, muscular silver fox. He didn't look a day over forty.

His glasses rested on his long nose and he used one hand to move away the strand of hair that kept falling into his face.

“Commissioner, they're here.”

He took his time looking up from the paper and when he finally did, he didn't look happy to see us.

Of course, he wasn't. He thinks we tried to kidnap his son.

“Good job officers. When I got the call, I wondered which one of my enemies had finally caught up with my son. I had no idea that it was two…”

He took his precious time looking at Hazel and I and I'd never felt anyone's gaze so strong on me before. Maybe except Elijahs.

“So tell me. What are your names?”

Hazel spoke up first.

“I'm Hazel and she's Adriana.”

He smirked.

“Why don't you let her speak for herself, darling? Trust me when I say that we're going to be seeing each other for a very long time so it's best we get to know each other.”

I wasn't even in the mood to talk.

“No, I speak for her so ask us your silly questions so we can go. Darling.”

The smile dropped from his face..

“You’re not going anywhere anytime soon except jail. You can trust me on that. You dare to kidnap my son?”

Now, we are finally getting down to business.

“We didn't kidnap your son, okay? That's not what happened. We took him because we needed him to bring us to him.”

Tobias stood up from his chair and came around to sit on our side of the table.

“You really expect me to believe that bullshit? You took him! You forced him to get into.the car with you and then you drove away. His friends told me the entire thing.”

I really didn't have time for this back and forth. If we were being charged for something, we might as well get it over with so that we could get back to the station.

I wouldn't want Elijah to come and not find me there.

“So tell me who sent you? Who do you work for? Spine? Blue Buddies?”

I don't think I'll ever work for anyone named Blue Buddy. Sounded so unserious.

I looked around Damien's table, trying to use the opportunity to scope out the area.

Did I think that this man and Lucy could have been in an affair? Probably. But I wasn't sure. There was nothing here to indicate that.

I just realized that I hadn't seen a picture of Lucy in all that. Perhaps I would know what kind of man she would go for.

Tim was attractive too although he had been through so much so right now, he wasn't looking his best.

I'd dare say that he was even more attractive than Tobias.

“Why are you so quiet? Are you mute?”

I came back to reality and realised that he was speaking to me.

“Can’t you say something?!”

I didn't like people who raised their voices at me. I often had the strong urge to cut off their tongues. And this one won't be any different if he didn't get out of my face.

Hazel stepped in front of me.

“I’d advise you to step back, Darling. People often aren't privileged to get this close.”

Tobias looked at her for a few moments before going back to his table.

“I take it she's the boss and you're..what? Her lap dog.”

Hazel didn't even get offended. She just laughed.

“No, I'm the Beta and she's the Queen. We did not take your son. We have no reason to. We only asked him for directions to come see you. Maybe if you asked the little coward what happened instead of just believing what his little bee friends told you, you'd know the truth.”
