Chapter 142 Uno Reverse

Chapter 142 Uno Reverse
ADRIANA

With a single slash of the knife across my palm, it was like the walls of the house were blown away and the ground opened up beneath us.

It got so windy that the cult brothers had to cover their faces with their robes but I could see everything clearly. Out of the darkness, emerged the sisters and I’d never felt so at ease in my life.

Everything finally settled down and I could see them clearly. The sisters and I versus the cult.

“Don’t you old women ever get tired? I mean how long has it been? You should be old and withered by now.” The Grandmaster growled.

One of the sisters laughed.

“Says the person who has been renewing his youth with the blood of innocent women and children.”

What? Was that what they did to make themselves seem younger?

“You should mind your words, Bianca. They might get you into trouble.”

She laughed.

“What trouble? You seem to have forgotten, Lucas. You were just a silly little boy when I killed your father. I would have killed you too that day, but for some reason, I thought you would be better than him. I’d hoped that you would be better than him. If only I’d known that the seed of evil had been planted in you, I’d have done away with you when I had the chance.”

“Elijah, what’s going on?”

There was silence in my head and I wondered why he wasn’t replying to me.

“I should have known there was a reason why she had so much audacity. You guys are behind her. But that’s fine, I’ll deal with you and deal with her at the same time.”

I saw it as it was coming toward us.

“Look out!” He threw a ball of fire toward us and I jumped out of the way to avoid it but I forgot that I was dealing with witches.

Right before my eyes, the ball of fire bounced back as if there was a shield in front of us protecting us.

“We are here now. Nothing will happen to you, Adriana. You can trust us.”

I stood up from the floor and felt proud.

“We should have known that this would happen.” He turned behind him “Bring him in!”

I watched as they dragged Elijah in and threw him to the floor roughly.

My mind refused to understand what I was seeing.

No.

No, that wasn’t—

My breath caught somewhere between my chest and my throat as he didn’t move immediately. Blood soaked through his shirt, too dark, too much, and when he finally shifted, it was slow…

“Elijah…?”

The name came out quieter than I intended. Fragile. Unsteady.

This wasn’t how he was supposed to look.

Not him.

Not ever.

My fingers twitched at my sides, a strange, helpless instinct to reach for him even though there was too much distance, too many enemies, too much in between.

He coughed.

And I flinched.

The sound was wet.

My stomach dropped violently, like the ground had given way beneath me, and something cold began to spread through my chest, suffocating me.

This was my fault.

If I hadn’t—

If I didn’t—

“Elijah, what’s going on?” I tried again, louder this time, but my voice shook, betraying me.

The silence in my head felt louder than the chaos around me.

All I could see was Elijah. Bleeding.

Barely holding himself up. Not fighting or getting back up.

“Elijah…” This time, his name broke out of me.

And that was the moment the fear truly set in.

A quiet, creeping terror that wrapped itself around my ribs and squeezed.

Because for the first time, I didn’t know if he was going to survive this.

“Now, you’re going to have to choose, Adriana. If you decide to stay in the shield, then we’ll take your little lover and kill him. But if you come out, we’ll leave with just you. You have five minutes, don’t make us wait.”

“Adriana, don’t do it!” One of the sisters said “As soon as you leave this bubble, they’ll be able to get to you and we won’t be able to protect you anymore. You’ll have to be on your own.”

At this point, I didn’t mind. I looked back at Elijah that was on the floor bleeding. He didn’t deserve to be like that. I knew he was a powerful man but the things he was fighting were far from human or wolves and lycans.

“We’ll find a way to rescue Elijah from them but just stay here for now. Just let it go.”

Find a way? So they weren’t sure they’d win? I couldn’t gamble with his life like that. I didn’t care about myself. I knew that there was a high chance that I would die either way so that really didn’t matter to me. All I just wanted was to get Elijah away from them.

Leo still needed his father and I still needed him too.

“Let me out. I’ll deal with this on my own.”

I heard Elijah’s voice.

“Don’t— don’t do this, Adriana. It’s not worth it. You should live for you and Leo. Just let me go, I’ve lived a good life. It’s time for me to go.”

What the hell did Elijah think he was saying? There was no way I would let him go like this.

“Don’t say things like that, Elijah. I’ll take care of it. Just let me go!”

The shield fell and I ran to him and brought him closer to me.

“Elijah, why would you do that to yourself? How did this happen?”

He laughed but choked on blood.

“I did it for you. They wanted to come in here but I wanted to hold them off. I didn’t want them to come to you.”

“You need to come with us now. If we find out that any of these witches are following you, you will pay for it.”

These bastards will pay for what they have done. Nothing would stop me from putting an end to them once and for all.

I helped Elijah to his feet and we walked toward the cult members. The sisters watched me go with sadness in their eyes. They knew what I was doing and they knew the risk I was taking. But I couldn’t let Elijah die because of me.

I would rather die myself than live in a world without him. As we got closer to the cult members, one of them grabbed me roughly and pulled me away from Elijah.

“Let him go!” I screamed. “I’m here now, just let him go!”

The Grandmaster smiled wickedly. “Oh, we will. But first, we need to make sure you cooperate.” He nodded to one of his brothers who pulled out a knife. My heart raced as I watched him approach Elijah.

“No! Please! I’ll do whatever you want! Just don’t hurt him!” The Grandmaster laughed. “That’s exactly what I wanted to hear.”
