Chapter 37

The next day, Alexander called the meeting for Symphony. She sat on the couch in between Alexander and Gavin, Damion sat across from them with one of the men who had been fighting next to her.

Alexander had told him what was going on with Symphony and hoped he would be able to shed some light on the situation. He left out the part about her wolf though because that wasn’t his story to tell.

The soldier had told Symphony everything that he could remember about the fight. Everything that she had previously heard from the other three men sitting next to her. She was able to remember some of it but not all. After the soldier finished telling her what had happened, he was dismissed.

Damion and Gavin looked at each other and then to Alexander and Symphony; even they didn’t know what was going on.

“I think it’s time we tell you what is going on,” Alexander said looking at Symphony.

She nodded before she began speaking. She took a deep breath before telling them what was happening.

“It seems as though I have lost my wolf. I have not been able to contact her for some time. When I first woke up, I could feel her still there but now I can’t. We are trying to figure out why she may have disappeared. Also, since my memories of that day are still a little fuzzy, we figured bringing in an outside perspective might help us figure out why I lost my wolf.” She told them.

Damion immediately wanted to see if maybe one of his people could help, he promised to keep names out of it. Symphony was hesitant at first because the fewer people who knew her wolf was missing the better. After some persuading, she finally agreed. Gavin just sat there in shock. He had never heard of someone losing their wolf before, unless they royally pissed off the moon goddess and even that was rare. He wondered if Symphony had done something to upset the goddess, so he asked her.

“I know the answer to this question but I feel like I need to ask it anyway.” He said.

“Did you happen to do something to upset the moon goddess by chance?”

Symphony started to shake her head no, but then remembered lying in the hospital bed when she wouldn’t wake up. Alexander had come to see her and she could hear everything he was saying but she couldn’t get her body to move, she had cured both the moon goddess and her wolf for leaving her in that state.

She brought her hand up to her mouth in realization. The men were waiting for her to say something.

“This is all my fault.” She said tears welling in her eyes.

She told them what she remembered from that day and they all agreed that maybe this was their way of getting back at her. She didn’t know what to say to that. She had been furious about the whole situation at the time. Now it seemed stupid to get that upset over something that was out of their control.

She excused herself and went back up to her bedroom. She crawled into a little ball on the bed and cried until she had no more tears. She felt horrible for feeling like the guys had been keeping something from her, for curing the moon goddess and her wolf, and for ever doubting her friends on their honesty with her. This was her punishment for that. She didn’t know if she would ever get her wolf back after everything. She would try like hell though to make amends and bring Startlett back to her.

She ended up crying herself to sleep. Alexander came up to check on her and noticed that she was sleeping. He didn’t want to wake her as he knew that she had only fallen asleep when he woke her up that morning. He quietly covered her up and kissed her forehead before heading back to his office.

Alexander needed to find a way to get Symphony her wolf back, she was literally turning into a shell of who she was. Gavin and Damion were still in his office when he returned. He sat at his desk and told them what he was thinking. Damion said he would make some calls to see what could be done, Alexander reminding him not to mention Symphony’s name. Gavin asked what he could do to help. Alexander told him to go look through the library and see if he could find anything that way. Alexander told them that this took priority over everything else. He wanted Symphony back to normal, then they could worry about everything else that was on the agenda.
