Chapter 31
While Jaxson was putting the plan together to take over the Lycan kingdom, Symphony slowly started to stir. She felt like she had been hit by a semi-truck. She opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. She wasn’t sure where she was but when her eyes landed on Jaxson, she knew she shouldn’t let him know that she was awake.
She remembered the attack after Alexander left, she remembered Gavin telling her to run, and she remembered her home going up into flames. She knew Gavin had made it out, only because Jaxson needed him to deliver a message to Alexander.
She tried to reach Starlett, but she was still exhausted from the fight to be much help.
“Some special wolf.” Symphony thought to herself. “Guess I am on my own, trying to get out of here.”
As she continued to look around for an escape route, she heard Jaxon muttering to himself about something, she couldn’t make it out because he was talking to low even for her wolf hearing to catch. She ignored him as she felt the rope around her wrists. She had some wiggle room to work with but not much. While she worked on getting her hands free her eyes never left Jaxson. She wanted to make sure that he was unaware that she was awake. That was one of the last things that she needed.
Jaxson, unaware that his little hybrid was awake, continued to mull over the plans and maps he had in front of him. He knew he had enough manpower to take over the kingdom. He wasn’t sure how he wanted to execute the plan though. He needed his secret weapon to wake and then he could just use her power to eliminate any threats that may occur.
His original plan was to take everything when he took the hybrid, but he wasn’t planning on the fight that occurred or that they would have so many guards there to protect her. He figured that there would have been maybe a half dozen guards, not almost thirty.
With the new plan he had it allowed him to strike at night when they least expected it. His men would move silently and quickly to eliminate as many guards as they could and then he would come with the hybrid and destroy the Lycan king once and for all. Leaving him to take over the kingdom and then he would make the hybrid his queen, only using her to take over the rest of the surrounding area. Once everything was complete, he would have his hybrid disposed of so she wouldn’t be able to use her power against him.
It seemed like a perfect plan, although it had its flaws. The biggest one was getting the hybrid to go along with all of this. There was nothing keeping her from using her powers against him or his men when she went for the king. He had to make sure she was on his side completely.
Symphony had almost gotten her hands free when Jaxon turned around to look at her. She quickly pretended like she was still asleep, hoping he would ignore her. Instead, she got a very cold-water bath, which caused her to become alert.
“Well, it’s about time our sleeping beauty woke up.” Jaxson said putting the bucket down.
“I was worried you were going to miss all the fun.”
Symphony sputtered, trying to get her bearings about her. She was definitely not expecting water to get thrown at her. She glared at him with hatred in her eyes. As he came near her, she flinched away, which earned a hard slap from him. She turned her face back to him and spit in his face. He just laughed as he wiped his face off.
“Aren’t you a feisty little hybrid.” He said laughing.
“Save your strength we attack the kingdom tonight, and you’re going to help us, or you die.” He said as he walked out of the cabin.
Symphony was terrified, she knew she had to get out of there and fast to warn Alexander of the attack. She made quick work of her wrists since she didn’t have to worry about someone noticing. She looked out the windows and saw no one around.
“Odd” she thought “they should at least have someone guarding me.”
She double-checked the outside again just to be sure. She headed out the door at a full sprint. Just as she hit the ground, she heard Jaxon somewhere nearby. She knew she had been spotted but she took off running anyway. She didn’t know which way she was heading but she knew she had to get away from Jaxon and his men.
She heard the shouting in the distance behind her. As much as she hated to, she prayed to the moon goddess to not let her be caught. She needed all the help she could get with Starlett still not around. She knew she had to get to a water source and once she did, she could hide her scent. As if the moon goddess actually heard her prayers, she could hear running water ahead of her. She picked up her pace, her lungs were burning, sweat was starting to run down her face.
She came upon a river. She headed into the water, ignoring the cold water and her legs protesting at the shock. She headed down stream. The voices behind her sounded like they were getting closer. She knew she had to keep going, she didn’t know what Jaxson and his men would do to her if they caught her. She pushed the thoughts out of her mind.
Once she ran downstream for about a mile she took off on dry land again. She hoped that she was in the water long enough to take her scent away. She couldn’t hear Jaxson’s men coming after her anymore, which she hoped was a good sign. She didn’t slow her pace until it was nightfall.
She managed to find a small cave that went back far enough that she wouldn’t be seen from the entrance. She finally sat down and let her screaming legs rest. She knew she would have to keep going or risk being caught but she needed a break.
She thought she could hear voices coming from the distance again so she put her wolf hearing to the test. It was voices but not from Jaxson and his men. She listened for a little while and was able to figure out where she was. She was in the Grey Moon Pack territory. She didn’t know much about them but she hoped they were friendly.
She heard the shouts coming from the entrance to the cave. She shrunk back against the wall to make herself as tiny as she could. Then she saw figures standing about fifteen feet from where she was sitting. She held her breath and prayed that they would leave and not find her. She didn’t want to be in another hostage situation.
The figures sniffed around a bit and then turned to leave. She did not move a muscle until they were gone, and she couldn’t hear them anymore. About ten minutes after things went silent, she let out her breath. Her heart was beating in her ears. She was safe, for now anyway. She needed to get home, but how, she didn’t know how far she was from home or which way to go.
