Chapter 18: STARTING TO TRUST HER
Licia's eyes flared open as she dismissed her thoughts; she had made a promise to her people to restore what her father had destroyed. Even though she is a woman now, she can't enjoy the easy life and must work hard for her people. While she was the prince, she and her mother could not do anything and everything ended as they kept dreaming about the throne.
Enrique was smart and had a good sense of judgment, he would surely notice that she was far more learned and knowledgeable than a mere Alpha's maid. Of course, she had to be careful and not let her identity be revealed because the day it happens, she will be killed regardless of her current identity as the Luna of the Ravenwood pack.
Her mother threw her out of the castle, bestowing no wish of hers upon her other than asking her to survive.
But since the day she ran away, abandoning her country and her people, surviving was the most difficult thing for her. The feeling of guilt weighed on her chest like a heavy stone, suffocating and killing her slowly. She was only hanging through a silver of guilt and her life had no purpose until she met the people of her pack.
Licia clenched her fist as she finally found her reason to continue living and she wasn't going to abandon them this time, even if it meant to put her own life at stake.
Licia went back to her room and changed from her nightwear to a new gown. After that, she spent the next half an hour shifting all her things to the Alpha's room as he has asked her to live with him in his room from now on. After that she prepared a fresh set of outfits for him, cleaned his sword and polished his shoes.
Alpha Enrique was the only one who had treated her well after she ran away from the castle so she wasn't going to neglect her duties as his wife and take the best possible care of him. She knew that despite being an Alpha, he had no family of his own whom he could turn to when he was down. Licia was the only one he had, just like how she had only him to rely on.
After she was done, she walked out of the room and headed downstairs. Polene Rowell, the castle's head maid, was currently sweeping across the floor when she saw her. Polene immediately stopped what she was doing and greeted her, "Luna!"
Licia acknowledged it by nodding her lead slightly with a polite smile. She asked, "You are cleaning up?"
"I… yes, Luna." She said hesitantly, "I didn't know you would wake up this early. I will make sure to fold the cleaning before you wake up by tomorrow."
"There is no need for it." Licia said, "You are already doing a great job."
"I…" Polene was taken aback by how gentle and easy going she was. Before the war broke out, she was working as a maid for an abusive Luna who would unleash the anger she accumulated because of her husband's cheating by torturing her. Licia, although, was different and made her loosen up a bit around her.
She asked, "Did you have a comfortable sleep last night, Luna? Is there anything you want us to change? We will work on it right away." Licia shook her head and said gently, "No, everything is alright but there is something you can help me with."
"What is it, Luna?" Polene asked, ready to serve her services at her words. Licia opened her lips and stared at what she wanted to Polene; since she had the power in her hand now, she wasn't going to waste a single second anymore.
Licia was looking around at the antiques decorated excessively on the shelfs of the study when Polene approached her. She said, "My Luna, the thing that you asked for has been prepared."
"Is it? That's good to know. Thank you, Polene." Licia said as she placed the vase back on the shelf where she had picked it up from. Polene seemed to be a little timid when she said, "But… will it be alright? These supplements were sent to the castle. How can we take it without informing the Aloha first?"
Licia squinted her eyes and she started making her way out of the room, "Don't worry about it, the Alpha is already made aware of this yesterday."
The sunlight which made its way through the window illuminated the Alpha's chamber, making him slowly wake up from his sleep. He looked at the other side of his bed to find it empty and shot up straight. How was it possible that he had failed to sense this woman's movement around him again. Even when she was lying right next to him, he seemed to have let down his guards and slept soundly with no sense of his surroundings.
He looked at his clothes and sword, clean and folded on the table yet he didn't notice anything. He pulled his lips together thoughtfully, it was really strange for him. The war had sharpened his senses and he would be alert all the time as letting it down would mean death. Even in the camps where they rested, enemies would intrude every now and then. Being the knight who led the army, he was the main target and had been ambushed at night several times. This made his senses strong, even when he was fast asleep. There was no way he would continue sleeping when someone was moving around him, armed with his own sword.
Maybe… that was for normal people. He started to remember the way she blushed and looked at him last night. It would make sense why he was choosing to let his guards down around her, he was starting to trust her.
His thought process was hindered when he heard the commotion downstairs in his usually empty castle. He furrowed his eyebrows and curious to know what was going on, dressed up and went downstairs to the hall to check.
