Lucas (cont)
Everyone was looking at me. But my eyes were focused on Genni’s face. Whilst everyone else had looks of fear, uncertainty and disbelief, Genni’s face held a serene type of calm upon it. I admit, I was impressed. Especially when you considered the state of her mate.
The Grand Alpha looked like he was heading for a tail spin. I smirked inwardly. Still looking at my sister, huh, I started to get an odd feeling. It was starting to spread over my body. I didn’t know what was happening but I didn’t like it.
“My love, we need to call a meeting with the warrior leaders. And call the high council. Update them on what has happened.”
The Grand Alpha addressed my sister, his words full of the strain he now felt at my news.
Again, Genni had that serene look upon her face. Had she not taken me seriously? Should I have said more? I was starting to get a little stressed out, the little wolf beside me, helped with that.
Hoping to tap into the mate bond again and calm myself down I reached for Trix’s hand. At the same time, Genni said softly, “Trix, could you take Evie upstairs. She needs a change and a nap.”
At once, Trix left my side and hurried over to Genni, she took the baby off Jonas, bowed to them both and without so much as a glance towards me, left the kitchen.
Trix went out through the door, just as Wyatt and two other warriors entered the kitchen. Jonas must have mind linked them to come here, he had said he wanted a meeting with them, after all. Still, it was a bit casual to have such a meeting in the kitchen, of all places.
To my surprise, however, Jonas asked why the warriors had come to the kitchen.
Silence settled on everyone as they waited for one of the warriors to respond to the Grand Alpha. A small, soft voice spoke next.
“I called them here. I thought it would save time, my darling.”
I could see the love shining from my sisters eyes as she looked at her mate. It unsettled me.
GENNI POV
I smiled up at my mate, and placed a reassuring hand on the arm closest to me. I felt the tight muscles under my fingers, relax a little. I gave him another small smile then turned my head to address the concerns of the room.
“Lucas, we can’t thank you enough for finding out this information. And I think I speak for everyone here, when I say how thankful to the goddess we are, for your safe return.”
Whilst the people in the kitchen were openly agreeing with my sentiments, I mind linked the warriors, and asked them to do something specific for me. Like the highly trained, and loyal warriors they were, they followed my wishes without question.
Once everyone had quieted down, I started to speak again.
“The news you bring here is dire indeed. And we will have to have a meeting about it, very soon. However, my immediate concern is for you. I want to know how, YOU, are feeling? I mean, we don’t yet know the full extent of your capture.”
A few people tried to get my attention, but I ignored them. I only had eyes for Lucas.
Before he could utter another word, I gave a nod of my head. Wyatt and Jeremy stepped up behind Lucas. Not touching him, but still very close.
“I suppose what I really want to know is how you ever thought you would get away with, this!” I gestured my arm towards Lucas. I watched as his eyes darkened.
“Good!” I thought to myself.
“I’m not sure what you mean, sister. Get away with what, exactly?”
Although his tone was light and airy, I nonetheless picked up on a slight tremor. “Even better!” I thought again.
“I will not answer any more questions. Not from you, anyway. You must realise that you are trapped. My warriors flank you, and my mate and myself sit in-front of you. Not to mention the other, extremely powerful wolves in this kitchen. There is nowhere for you to go. So, I would very much like to speak to my brother now. You’ll find that any gifts bestowed on you, will not work in my presence. So there is no point in trying.”
I felt Jonas grip my shoulder, he would never contradict me in front of the pack members, but his questions were flooding my mind. As was my Father’s. I needed all my concentration, so I asked Sapphire to speak to them, on my behalf. My father looked incredulous, he glanced back and forth, between Lucas and myself.
Jonas must have relayed the information from Sapphire, to everyone else. Wide incredulous eyes looked at me, then at Lucas, then back to me. Molly rose from her seat and came to stand by my right shoulder. Quickly catching on, both Sarah and Greg stood and made their way over to Jonas and myself. Sarah stood next to her mother and Greg stood by Jonas.
“Please, I would like to speak to my brother now.”
At first, I thought he was going to defy me.
After a time, we all noticed a shift in Lucas’s stance. He no longer stood tall and confident. Instead, he slouched, and looked as if he were in a lot of pain.
His weak, faraway eyes met mine, and I felt my heart break at the sight that stood before us.
I stood. And rushed over to my brother. I knelt down in front of him, cradling his tear stained cheek.
“What have they done to you, Lucas? Why has he done this?”
I had to strain to hear my brothers response, his voice barely audible due to the rough shape he was in.
“Zachary. Weapon. Coming. Hide!”
The last word was spoken with the last bit of true energy Lucas had left.
I didn’t bother to look at him again. Instead I addressed the third warrior, Michael.
“Please make sure its comfy down there. It is still my brother.”
“Yes Luna.” Was all he said in return. Before he spun on his heal and left the kitchen.
I stood up, and stepped within Jonas’s strong arms. They slunk along my waist until I was wrapped up in them, but said nothing.
Before I spoke again, I mind-linked the members of my pack that were present. Then, I spoke.
“I am addressing the creature that is currently inhabiting my brothers body. You will be taken down to the cells. You will stay there until we decide what is to be done with you. You will not have any access to the ‘gifts’ you may or may not possess. I will keep you comfortable, because I do not want my brother to be harmed in any way.”
I looked around at my pack mates, my family. Then I looked back toward the creature. A look of distaste settling on my face, as I spoke to ‘IT’ one last time.
“BUT, know this. I. We will not hide and We will not run.
