***Trixie pov***
Never have I ever felt so important as I do when pushing this beautiful little baby around the pack house in her pram. Everyone stopped to see her, and in doing so, they also spoke to me. Asking a few questions and Evie, or just enquiring after the Alpha and Luna.
I had been Evie's official nanny for one whole week now. And everyday I sent thanks to the moon goddess for my good fortune.
The rooms I was moved into were magnificent. I remember crying softly to myself as I lay in bed that first night. The tears were ones of happiness. My new place was everything I could have dreamed of and more. I had a small sitting room with a state of the art TV, a small area that I would call a kitchen, but the Luna had called it a feeding nook. I smiled then, the feeding nook was simply a large fridge freezer filled with food and sodas, plus a little area inside filled with Evie's food.
My bedroom was again small, but perfect. The double bed was the comfiest I'd ever slept on, and the sheets and quilt that lay so neatly over it were so soft, they felt luxurious on my skin.
I had never been so happy. My shift in status within the pack hierarchy was swift and seemless.
It was just accepted that, as the Nanny of the Alpha and Luna, I was giving respect of the kind I had never had growing up. My family being Omega's, and the lower end of that rank were generally expected to be the servants of the pack. We were expected to be available to any member above the Delta rank. My father had been in one of the warrior classes, and he had been killed doing his duty to his pack. Unfortunately, my mother had given up after that. Which was why I was so good at looking after children. As the oldest of my siblings, I had to pick up the slack where Mom was concerned. And it was a lot of slack.
but we managed. Plus, mom was a lot better nowadays. So I was confident that I was leaving my home and siblings in good hands.
I was stopped for the hundredth time this morning by one of the 3rd class warriors and his mate. And although they smiled and said all the right things, I got the sense that they were anything but please to see Evie out and about. The warrior, whose name was Tim, just stood back while his mate, Vanessa, fawned all over the baby. I kept smiling at them both and answering their enquiries about the baby. It was when the line of questions turned from Evie to the Luna that I stopped and excused myself. I quickly moved to the new lift installed for ease of movement when one had the baby and pram. As soon as I got in, I could feel a soft probing in my mind. I smiled as I knew who this was.
''hi Sapphire, everything okay?'' I asked, trying to sound casual and upbeat.
''I was just going to ask you the same thing Trix, what's wrong? Is the baby alright?''.
I could hear the tension in the voice, and I assured her the Evie was fine. But I asked if I could sit down with the luna later today.
After telling me that Luna would speak with me whenever I was ready, it made me feel a lot easier
So it was no surprise to see both Alpha and Luna standing in their living room, waiting for the lift to stop. The Alpha had gone above and beyond for his little girl. When the lift was installed, he wanted it to open into the living room. This meant only three people had access to it, and I was one of them.
Before I could say Hi to them both, the luna had rushed over to the pram and lifted the baby up and into her arms. I could hear her murmur to the little one. Saying things like, I missed you so much, my angel and mommy loves you. I smiled at the sight, the Alpha had pride shinning from his eyes as he also looked on at his Mate, his Luna.
It was the Alpha that asked the question I knew was coming. ''What happened? Sapphire felt your heart rate elevate, and your anxiety level also raised. Did something happen to you or the baby?'. I knew he wasn't angry or upset with me, but when you have your six foot plus, alpha looming over you and almost demanding to know what's wrong. It's a little disconcerting.
''Jonas, my love. Leave Trix alone. You're scaring her'' the luna admonished in a gentle voice. She turned to look at me and asked if now was a good time for me to talk to them. I nodded, and we all walked to the sofas and sat down. The alpha stood at first, but another scolding from the luna saw him sit next to her on the sofa. Luna smiled at me and waited for me to start, so I did.
***Jonas POV***
I was standing with my mate in her office. Molly and Peter had settled in next door in their now, shared office. As they were both Beta's to their Luna.
Since Peter started a week ago, loads of different things had been sorted out, from the newly formed and active Omega committee to arranging get together with different packs.
Gennie had gone into the office as usual in the morning before we started her training. Which wasn't going as well as we had hoped.
It was when I stood behind her desk, looking at a proposal made, when I saw the flash of the deeper blue. Sapphire was close to the surface, and that made me worry. My suspicion was proved right when Gennie's face changed and she excused herself from the office.
Gennie gestured for me to follow her. As we worked swiftly back to our apartment, I could see her nodding to whatever conversation was going on between women and wolf.
It was only about two minutes later when I heard the lift I had installed activate.
I knew that some pack members were shocked when the engineers arrived to do the work, but like I explained to the nay sayers. My Mate and their Luna was NOT going to carry our precious daughter up and down numerous flights of stairs.
I wanted it to open directly into our living space. I thought this was the easier option, instead of knocking down walls and bricking up new ones. This way, the pack house structure stayed the same, and placated the worriers.
Gennie was standing, waiting for the lift door to open. When they did, she swoop into the pram and reached for our baby girl. Even though it had only been an hour since we last saw Evie, it was always a relief when she was back in the apartment and I knew she was safe.
I smiled at my Mate and cub, then turned my attention to Trix, who stood behind the pram looking a little frazzled. ''You okay Trix?'' I asked. Expecting a response along the lines of 'I don't feel well'.
What she actually said was at first puzzling, then worrying. I didn't like it when my pack members thought it was their right to know every aspect of my life. And although I shared a lot with my pack, what happened behind closed doors stayed behind closed doors.
I could feel Jax come up to the surface. I knew how much he hated it. I asked him to stand back, he complied. Reluctantly.
***Gennie POV***
I held my baby in my arms as I whispered sweet nothings to her. Only an hour had passed since Trix took Evie for her morning stroll around the pack house. But I had missed her, I missed the familiar weight of her in my arms, the comforting gurgles of her feeding.
My attention was fully on my baby until my eyes landed on the pretty young girl we called Nanny.
My attitude switched straight away, I was in Luna mode.
'Trix, what happened to you that shook you up like it did? Can you tell me or show me?'
I heard the little sigh leave Trix, so I asked her to sit down. When we were all on the sofa and Jonas held the baby, I asked outright what the matter was.
Trix didn't even try to hide her feelings from me, which was spot on.
''It was just weird, Luna. Everyone asked about you both in a polite, respectful tone. But these two seemed to push the respectful boundary a bit, and it made me feel uneasy. Luna, I would not usually take it to heart. But the questions they asked! I just didn't think they were appropriate''.
Trix finished speaking.
''What type of things did they sat that got you all upset? I need to know the exact things that were said.
Sapphire gave me her account when the conversation happened. Unfortunately, she was so incensed that she didn't make a lot of sense''.
I smiled warmly at my nanny, trying to get her to settle a little, but that didn't help. Trix seemed genuinely upset.
''Okay Trix, try to take a calming breath' I could see her breath in deeply and let the breath slowly leave her body. When she was ready, she lifted her head and began to explain why she was so worked up.
''As you instructed, I was walking around the ground floor of the pack house. We had already popped in to see Martha and your father, Luna. We then left the kitchen and continued to walk. All pack members stopped and chatted, some merely gushed over the baby. But one couple took the questions too far. At least that's how I feel''.
I could tell Trix had been nervous talking about this subject as she rushed through her explanation.
Jonas tensed slightly besides me and handed the baby back. He stood up and demanded Trix continue. This, of course, had the opposite effect. Trix was so startled by her Alpha standing up and raising his voice, she had flinched in her seat. Seeing this, I told Jonas to leave and calm down, or sit, listen and learn.
Jonas was mortified by Trix's reaction and apologised to her at once. Even though Trix accepted his apologies, I could still see her trembling.
I got up, still holding the baby. I walked over to the other sofa and placed Evie in Trix's arms. It had the desired effect. Like I knew she would, Trix calmed instantly. I saw her square her shoulders, and with a nod at Jonas began to tell us what had happened.
